2013 Playing Cards Series

Project by Mark Allender
First created, $1,400 goal, $10/1 deck, $40 for all 4 designs

Quote
The 2013 Playing Card Series has four unique decks: - "Metal Solids" - "Dragons" - "Helvetica" - "Led Zeppelin"

Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

Rob, you're killing me.  These decks...  There's been so much CRAP lately...

I'm sorry to tell this guy, but quantity does NOT replace quality, not in the least.  If it did, Merz67 would be the Michelangelo of the playing card industry...

And when the hell did he obtain the rights to make Led Zep's fourth album into a deck of cards?  It sure as hell isn't in the public domain...

I see Merz67 all over Ebay selling cheap decks lol I figured this out while trying to find a cheap way to get all of the Karnival Series. Didn't work out too well and spent my money elsewhere haha

I don't mean that in a disrespectful way, I am new to this and don't know if they actually are.

I think Jackson, Paul, Randy, and Lotrek should each redesign one of these decks. Can you imagine that KS campaign?

Merz67 is Bill Merz, a playing card retailer with his own website as well as a store on eBay.  He's best known for designing some of the worst, laziest decks of playing cards ever to bear the Bicycle name.  To him, playing with the colors and slapping some Internet-found clip art is enough to be a "deck designer" and make new decks.  He also uses some hella crazy pricing tactics to get his cards seen as rare and valuable, like initially offering them for $40-50 a pack on eBay and having someone shill-buy them at that price so when he offers them for $10-20 on his site he can declare them to be such a bargain.

Hahaha:

"NOTE: As part of this process, I am also pursuing rights to use album imagery. If that process falls through, the design of this deck - notably the court cards - may be very different."

Sh'yeah...  That's the kind of thing that a professional sorts out FIRST, not after the project has launched.  You'd think these people never heard of lawyers before...

I knew a comedian who once came on stage wearing some really fancy-looking boots.  He said they were lawyerskin - they only cost him $300 an hour!  :))
