Gilded decks are generally made with the same stock and finishes as the non-gilded versions - they're just painted along the edges with metallic paint. The only way to really "break in" a gilded deck is to loosen up the bonds between the cards (a.k.a. handling the cards until enough of the gilding flakes off), but in the end they just end up looking like a mess and still handling poorly.
Sinsandman is right - this isn't a performer's deck. In my opinion, such decks aren't even players' decks. They're playing cards for people who like pretty, shiny things but don't like to play cards often.
