Playing Card Plethora / Re: Ink to Stock Ratio ( The Final Debate)
« on: March 01, 2013, 11:39:10 PM »
Isn't, at least with regards to feeling, easy enough to test?

Just take two decks with the same stock & finish (both new) but with one being a black version and the other being the white version and perform a blind test?

I personally just did this with the Seasons decks. Honestly, before the test, I thought for sure I'd know which was which, but after repeated failures in my guesses, I came to the conclusion that the results are inconclusive--I simply couldn't differentiate the two.

here is my set. i was hoping for the currator deck but can't even get it. maybe they plan to put the currator instead of another vaudeville

Wow, two repeats (the Vaudevilles and Yellow NOCs)--I'd contact their support team. You weren't supposed to get duplicates. That, and you're the first (in here) who got only one of the Olympic decks (the others got the complete set).

Playing Card Plethora / Re: If I could only get 1 or 2 decks!!! For Magic!!

Personally, if my goal is to simply perform tricks (not any flourishes, etc) I stick with the decks with the lower amounts of customizations. People are weary of trick decks and even though you may think a deck such as the Arcane Deck to look cool, other people will just think it's a deck that's helping you do your trick (instead of giving you any credit you deserve).

So, having said that, if you're really hoping for something other thank standard bikes or tally ho's, I'd go with either Crown decks (from thebluecrown.com), Monarchs (t11), White Lions (David Blaine), or even Bees (stingers if you need borders).

Box 1:
Gold London
Silver London
Bronze London
Mechanic
Purple Noc
Vaudeville
Azure Heraldry
Currator
Sanguine Heraldry
Blue Crown v2
Green Crown v2
Red Crown v2

Box 2:
Blue Crown v2
Green Crown v2
Red Crown v2
Mechanic
Silver London
Currator
Yellow NOC
Blue NOC
Silver Bike
Azure Heraldry
Vaudeville
Sanguine Heraldry

Except for the Purple NOC, box 1's the same as mine. Personally, I was hoping for at least ONE rare-ish deck.

Hmm, you should figure out if the Crowns are v1 or v2. The value difference is pretty huge.

Is there any obvious difference in the boxes? I compared them to ones I know aren't first edition and don't see any differences.
I just checked mine.   The V2's have an embossed box.   Can anyone else confirm that?

The ones that came with my set are embossed.

Playing Card Plethora / HOPC Collector Set - What was in my set
« on: December 17, 2012, 10:52:59 AM »
So, I bit the bullet in hopes of getting a Jerry but fell short. Here's what came in my set:

London Olympic set (Gold, Silver & Bronze)
Sanguine & Azure
Mechanic
Vaudeville
Curator
Red, Blue & Green Crown set (I'm guessing second edition)
Cartes á jouer (Silver Bicycle)

The set also came with an additional Cartes á jouer outside of the box.

I'm not all that happy with it considering the only deck in the set that was actually a sold out item is the Bronze medal deck [which I was never planning on getting anyhow]. Oh well, I guess it's like a scratch off card; you hope to win big, but you know your chances are slim.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: What purchase(s) was most worth it?
« on: November 02, 2012, 09:21:33 AM »
I'd say my two David Blaine variety boxes. I resold them at twice the amount I bought them, which led to bringing in about $200 pretty quickly.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Altruism Deck from The Blue Crown - ON SALE

Has anyone got theirs yet? I ordered on the 12th and just got notification of it shipping today. I understand there's always some backlog, but this is pretty crazy. I've never had a deck (and I've purchased quite a few during their releases) ship so slowly. I just feel like TBC has been leaving a bad taste in my mouth lately.

I sincerely don't know if I like this deck.
It's deceiving publicity to announce a new deck as a limited edition, show some pictures of the box, of the ace of spades and the jokers and that's it. What about the other cards, can't we see them before we buy the deck?
I guess I will wait for more info on this deck.

I agree. This isn't the first time TBC has done this and I doubt it'll be the last. I, personally, have a policy of not buying decks that aren't at least somewhat displayed (beyond the box, backs, and one or two cards).

I love how the go they extra mile to make a video of it that turns out to be a lousy slide show of the pictures that are available next to the video.

Personally, I'd file a complaint with PayPal. He says that account is no longer there, but that's just his word. If it is still available (or pending some review) this will force his hand. It may even get you a refund (which is better than nothing).

Looks like they put out a new variety box. It's got some decks I've never heard of like the Pit Harling deck:

I just found out that thes have standard, recolored faces  :( :(

That sucks. I'm getting sick of going to their site, trying to view a deck and instead getting 10 pictures of the deck's box (browse for their silver steampunks, as an example). My guess is they'll do something similar here to attempt shy from the fact the faces look just like half of their other decks.

I hate to say it, but I think this is looking too much like the original over-hyped Monarch release. Based on that Ace, I'd say they're sticking with standard pips and likely standard faces. I really wish they'd follow the Sentinel path and go custom. Then again, I could be completely wrong. We'll have to wait an see.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Which Deck is the Best
« on: May 16, 2012, 12:25:39 AM »
That's a ridiculous question.

False. Black decks.

That's debatable. There are basically two schools of thought...

Fact: Decks eat beets. Decks. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

17
Perhaps it's just me, but I think this site was over-hyped. With exception to the whole "Create your own cards" concept, there's nothing really new here. Just a couple of new decks and a rehash of a few others. So much for being "like no other". That, and what kind of company doesn't show pictures of the deck faces (for NOC)?? Make me think they're the same faces as the crown decks (which weren't really great from the start).

I don't think they mean the deck costs that--it's the price of a brick WITH that deck: "The process is automatic. Simply add a combination of 12 Fulton brand decks to your shopping cart and receive one Private Reserve deck with your order".

Nevermind--I just realized that it is the price if you want to order it without getting the brick. My mistake.

anyone get the collectors set yet? i dont think my order has shipped yet so i dont have em yet...is the box nice?

Just got mine in the mail today. Looks freaking awesome!

20
Excuse me if I'm being foolish, but what's the hype in the release at Blue Crown if you can simply purchase them from arrcocards.com?

21
Personally, I'd go with the Black Ghost. Gold Arcanes are more recent and thus likely more available from Collectors. Black Ghost came out a while ago and these days seem to be much harder to get.

Got mine in today--I have to say, I'm unimpressed. I feel like the two colors on the backs aren't contrasting enough that it almost looks blurry. I wish Fulton would have outlined the dragon with some white borders or something to break up the drawings from the bright-red/almost orangish background. Once again, I feel like the site's images duped me into thinking they looked better than they actually are.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: What to do when your deck starts "clicking"
« on: January 25, 2012, 10:26:33 PM »
I've had this happen to numerous decks. Even springing them a lot in opposite directions sometimes isn't enough.

Putting it in a clip should help. Personally, I went to Lowes and bought two 4'x12'x0.5 pieces of steel (like $8 a piece) and just leave any deck that I used a lot pressed (without their boxes) between them (gravity is usually enough to do the trick) and the cards flatten out. It usually only takes my cards one night to stop the "clicking" but sometimes I'll add a little weight on the top of the pieces if I feel the deck is going to be tough to straighten.

Anyone else having problems ordering this deck? keeps telling me there a shipping problem?

I was having that issue as well--try purchasing from a different browser.

Look nice, but what's up with the spiked price? 8.88 a deck? Seems a bit steep to me...
