The Conversation Parlor / Re: 99 cent mouse pads

Haha, nice story Sprouts, a hat for  $1 would still sound like a bargain to me. The pricing on the mouse pad doesn't seem to be an accident, just some sort of marketing strategy to get the name out I would assume.

I know the title of this post seems like it would be some sort of spam, but just letting you guys know of a deal I just stumbled on. I was on Reddit/r/Dota2 when I came across this post: http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/1rx10a/get_your_own_custom_dota2_mouse_pad_for_only_099/

Here is how to get the mouse pad

"I recently found this website where you can get a fairly high quality custom mouse pad for only 99 cents, no surveys or any of that BS. I thought you guys might appreciate it!

Step 1: Go to www.artscow.com and make an account.

Step 2: Go to the mousepad item, click the "CREATE IT!" button and customize your mousepad, you can put whatever you want on it.

http://www.artscow.com/photo-gifts/mousepad/large-mousepad-160

EDIT: The image on your mouse pad might be all pixelized and blurry during the customization process, but once it is printed it will be the original quality.

Step 3: After you are done customizing your mousepad, click "Add to Cart", then click "Proceed to Checkout".

On the right side there should be a box under "Coupon/Gift Certificate Code" where you can type a coupon code.

After you enter the code, your order should be 99 cents, and you can continue your checkout."

I just ordered one... 99 cents to Canada... and people have ordered to Europe and such, so I think it's good everywhere.

This is my code that gives the discount: Z099PLAY76CR8 ( To be clear, I believe I receive $1 store credit for each time this code is used ) You should be able to find other codes online if you don't want to give me a dollar  :(

People in that reddit post have had success with the order, seems to good to be true, but apparently it is legit.

******

You can also use that code for custom playing cards for 99 cents as well ( granted they are probably complete shit quality )

http://www.artscow.com/photo-gifts/playing-cards/playing-cards-single-design-298

Looks like the rule is one 99 cent mouse pad per household. Just thought I would share the deal with you guys.

I got a 3 deck pack from AP stash... There are plenty of decks I don't have and at 21 dollars, including shipping, seemed like a pretty good deal.

Edit: Fixed the link to Pandrea's stash deal for you Don.  ;)

I don't know... heard about some random dude named Alex and a vortex deck. Signed up a few days after the forum was running, became a mod a week later. Here we are over 2 years later.

Picked up a couple Black Jaqk decks, and a medallion. Caught me off guard a bit, I totally didn't realize they were going to be on sale now.. too much stuff on the go I guess. Looks like it all worked out though.

Just picked up a red/blue set, very reasonable shipping to Canada. Half my Black Friday shopping done, just the Jaqks left!

According to my count of the members list, we have ~ 692 members with at least one post, the members ( 18,496  ) is inflated due to spam bot sign ups. The forum has been up for a little over 2 years.

I'd estimate actual members at between 2-3K.  Many people join and never post at all, preferring to read what we write and to simply be a member.

I would agree, it was just easier to give a more accurate number if I based it off of having a post. I know there are a lot of lurkers.

Oh god... tough to chose only one. It is really a toss up for me between the new Jaqk deck and the Exquisite. I plan on trying to pick up both, but I guess if I could only choose one it would be the Jaqk. I have wanted to add a Jaqk deck to my collection for a while and just never got around to it.

As much as I like Bruce Lee, and think the deck is cool in a quirky way.... I don't think I will pick up these. When there are the other releases, especially from CARC, makes it difficult to fork out money on these.

In this case, to be honest i don't think the cut out benefits the aesthetics of the deck very much. Personally i would have preferred a standard tuck. There is not enough colour/pattern distinction between the black tuck and the black card back. With Paul's Aurum decks, the cut out was stunning and worked beautifully as there was a very clear contrast of colours. I just don't think the idea translated well in this case.

I agree. This doesn't have the same effect as what Paul did with his deck. I don't think it looks bad, but it just seems a bit unnecessary.

Nice to see another Legends deck though, they are awesome cards.

Are you talking about card magic? or coin, or what? I'll assume you are talking about card magic.

There are plenty of easier effects to learn and basic moves, such as double lifts and simple colour changes that when used properly can create really impressive magic. There are more difficult moves, such as a pass or clipshift, where you shouldn't expect to be able to do them properly without months, if not years of practice. There is plenty of easier card magic out there. The book series Card College has an enormous amount of information, ranging from beginner to advanced.

If you want to learn how to control your spectators, you need to preform more. The more you preform the more you will learn how to make the spectators look where you want. Also, being extremely comfortable with the magic you preform is key to making a relaxed atmosphere. If you are nervous and are focused really hard on the handling of the cards, the spectators will be focused on the cards as well. It all comes down to practice and repetition.

For many card tricks, and magic in general, don't expect to master each new trick in a day, or even a week. Performing magic properly take thousands of hours of effort, it's not something that comes overnight.

Keep up the effort and you'll see improvements in no time!

Thanks for cleaning it up a bit Don, I've been meaning to get around to that. 100% agree with not discussing the workings of magic, talking about entry level techniques like a double lift I am fine with, but don't discuss the workings of the newest effect on the market.

Take a look at various magic sites, and see if there is something that catches your eye. Doing magic with sponge balls or something of that nature is an easy way to create the illusion of making stuff appear and disappear, with just a little practice. Coin magic is also quite good for the vanishing and reappearing type of effect. Coins can be a bit more tricky to learn but the payoff is well worth it.

Knowing E. If it is a misprint, and you request another, they will require a photos or a video of you destroying that deck. Saying that, if the logo is off a bit, personally, I would keep that one because it makes it even more unique and rare than a normal white LTD

New vintage bee deck I added to my collection

Sweet!  Do you have an approximate age?  That tax stamp was in use between 1940 and 1965.

I knew about the tax stamp being used during that time. But I am not anywhere near an expert in the vintage area. I'll do some digging and see if I can find any more info, see if I can get a more precise date from any indications on the tuck

That's a mighty vintage-lookin' deck you got there, Curt!  Care to dish?  :))

That is the deck I purchased from Jonathan Rock, about a year ago. He put a thicker plastic covering on it to protect the tuck/seal. The deck has a class A tax stamp, placing it's printing date roughly between 1919-1924, it's the pride of my small vintage collection ( which is something that I hope to expand over the next year or so ).

Very sharp looking Curt!

Thanks mate, I am happy with how it looks as well.

I have been a PC gamer, never really continued with the consoles past N64. Saying that, I am tend to be more on the Windows side since it is the best for gaming, but I do have a macbook and dual boot my main PC with Linux ( Ubuntu ).... and run virtualizations of other distros. If I was going to get a console, 99% sure I would pick the PS4. I like what they are doing to support indie game developers.

Sounds good - my stepson's system is a PS3.  It's a shame I can never get him to even consider story mode.  He's a bit hung up on following any fictional plot line - he somehow managed to do very little fiction reading in grade school and has no desire for it at all in high school, only reading what he has to for school.  It's gonna bite him in the ass when he reaches college, but perish the thought that he'd listen to me, right?  :))  For him, it's all about the rankings, the XP, the unlocked bonuses, etc.  If they never even wrote a campaign story, he wouldn't miss it.

Has he tried games that were not a first person shooter? Because, I am like your stepson and don't care at all about the story of a FPS, it's all about the multiplayer. Saying that, my absolute favorite games are good RPGs with awesome stories. The Witcher series is great, so is Bioshock, and I can't count how many hours I have devoted into Fallout games. What I want from a game really is genre dependent.

I don't own either but have heard good things about BF4. I haven't gotten any of the last few COD releases because I wouldn't play the story mode in it... and the multiplayer hasn't been very innovative in the last while. I contemplated picking up BF4 since I really only play multiplayer FPS games, and still might but with school and finals coming up, I will be pretty busy, it is tempting though. I think Fanofyankees13 summed the games up pretty well.
