 Hey guys,

Just thought I'd start a personal thread for non-card related stuff (maybe on occasion some card stuff haha)

Feel free to comment on my posts, or if you have questions you want to ask.. go ahead!

  SO.. here we go..

I rarely pony up the cash to go to an actual theatre to see a movie, I find the prices have gotten out of control... and people around me are always noisy.

But, over the last week, I ended up going twice.  Once just my wife and I, and once with another couple.  Both movies are what I call "handheld-cam" type movies... Project X, and Chronicle.

We REALLY enjoyed both movies.  The way the "handheld-cam" is much MUCH better than some other movies I've seen like this i.e Cloverfield.

I highly recommend Chronicle.  It's about 3 teenagers who stumble upon something in the ground... and they end up getting telekinetic powers.  The story is great except for a not-needed love interest story line.

Project X is about these seniors in high school that want to throw an “epic” party…  Let’s just say things get out of hand.

Chronicle Trailer:

 Project X Trailers

I've watch chronicle too :D imo it's great how they skipped any useless info about how they got to know about their powers. though it was also expected of that one guy to lose control you know.

LoL @CBJ is this kinda like a blog/thread kind of thing? I was thinking of starting one up but I figured it would be too bleh for me. LoL!

I rarely go to the movies too because now a days I just dont feel like going there.
Only except maybe if there is really really GREAT movie out. and I really hate those 3d remakes of everything. UGH.

anyway, That Chronicle thing looks interesting.
About the love story line stuff. I think script writer and movie directors think it is always a necessity to have some form of love interest realated part in the plot. Im not sure I know of any movie without one. >.<

The love interest is how they get women interested!

Chronicle was a very good movie - but a bit predictable.  My fiancee wasn't big on it, but then again, she didn't grow up in a culture heavy on superhero stories...

Yeah, from the previews you can kind of tell where the movie was going to go, before you even sat in the theater... and I agree, having a bit of a love for superheroes would help!

So, I'm a bit of a YouTube/video junkie.  I can easily lose track of time when I'm looking through the videos.

I normally like comedy, but my wife's co-worker sent her this today...   I was shocked

Yeah, that was a nasty-looking accident.  Driving under those conditions is no joke, and it looks like the driver didn't adjust his speed lower to compensate.  Ain't an airbag on planet Earth that would've helped...

It's actually pretty shocking some of the things that can happen in an accident.  A retired cop told me about an incident he reported to - a woman was driving home from a supermarket, collided head first into something, which for the life of me I can't remember right now, and was killed when a frozen dinner launched like a projectile from the back seat through her skull, decapitating the top of her head.  Makes a great argument for not storing things in the passenger cabin and using the trunk instead...  It's easy to use the argument that "nothing's gonna happen", but there hasn't been a single accident since the dawn of time that was actually planned - they aren't regularly-scheduled or predictable more than a few moments in advance.  If they were, they wouldn't be accidents; they'd be on-purposes.

BTW: the "handheld camcorder" thing you're referring to in Chronicle and Project X?  It's called "cinema verite".  A lot of that style of footage was used in the dogfighting sequences in the "Battlestar Galactica" remake series.  It's meant to lend a greater amount of realism to the scene, as if you're seeing it being reported on the scene by a news cameraman.  Trademarks are jittery images without any steadying effects, whip pans from one part of the action to the other and soft focus or occasionally out-of-focus clips.  That film style has become enormously popular in the age when everyone carries a phone capable of shooting video - it looks like it was captured live and in real-time.

Hey guys,

Do any of you guys watch the Walking Dead?  This season was moving along at a fairly slow pace, but they made up for it in the last 2 episodes of the season!  It was a good finale!

I also watched Rise of the Planet Of The Apes yesterday with the wifey.  We both liked it better than the Mark Wahlberg version a few years back.  The CGI of the chimps/apes/gorillas was pretty good most times, but a few times it was way off.

Not a bad story, and who doesn't like John Lithgow!  If you haven't seen him in season 5 of Dexter, you don't know what you're missing!

And, I thought I'd start adding in decks I purchase...

I picked these up off of Ebay...

I don't watch The Walking Dead, but I've been hearing people talk about it a lot so I'll maybe start watching it. Initially, I thought people were talking about the programme Waking the Dead, and I don't like that so I avoided it.

I do, however, watch Dexter and John Lithgow's villain was, in my opinion, one of the best villains of the whole programme. A high point of the all of the series that's not been matched since.

Interesting set of decks there, do the rules of the game require the use of both at the same time?

The walking dead is only 2 seasons in, it would be easy for you to catch up.

As for the solitaire decks, I don't have them in my hands yet.  I only know a couple of different solitaire games, so I'm not sure if there are variations that require 2 decks.

I'll post about them when I get them

I thought that Walking Dead on the whole had been a terrible disappointment after the potential it showed in the pilot episode.  The characters almost immediately lost their... well, their character and became caricatures.  The season finale, however, really brought all that back; it was a great piece of television, possibly even better than the pilot.

(BTW, slight spoiler here but did you notice how throughout the whole second season they were operating as a communist/socialist kinda system while living on a farm, and then when the tone shifts to a totalitarian patriarchy, we see that they will now be living in a prison?  Symbolism- not bad).

There are many "double solitaire" games requiring two decks.  They're not as popular because, well, they require two decks.  One is easier to carry around.  Then you have to unsort them back into two decks when you're done.  Blah.

What version of the solitaire deck set is that?  New, old?  Never seen that variation before.  Are the decks colored to match the boxes?  If so, that's one funky combination!

Well, my birthday was yesterday... and my wife picked up some cards that were on my list!

Some from Merz, and a few from BMPoker

(see attached pic)

BMPoker's stuff was perfect!

Out of the 15 decks she ordered from Merz, 5 of them have the cellophane badly damaged... and out of those 5... 1 deck is really badly damaged.  AND, 1 deck was missing from the order all together.

Needless to say, my wife is not impressed.  She messaged him, and I'll keep you posted when (and if) we get a response.

IMO the walking dead is the most stupid series ever. When there's zombies around you, especially in the cities, why would you go in a city infested with zombies, with no food (instead of hiding in the woods). Also, why would you go on a horse. How do you close the doors if they attack you?

never seen walking dead, and have not seen either of those movies,  recently saw Immortal - which i did not like, Tower hiest - again sucked, 21 jumpstreet - decent, but to many sexual jokes IMO and I prefer the old tv show which i watched after i saw the movie.
Do you guys even read this? Like I could have the meaning of life here and I doubt you would know it.

That was very sweet of her, even if Merz managed to screw things up.

My fiancee got me three DiFatta Bicycle Rainbow decks for Valentine's Day - I thought it was probably the best and most-thoughtful gift I've ever been given for Valentine's Day.

Oooh belated happy birthday!

I really want to watch the Walking Dead because Zach Levi is really promoting that on his Twitter, and i am a BIG FAN of him... becuase he is CHUCK, he is a REAL nerd, and he can SING! oh and he has curly hair... probably my celebrity crush of all time. I like Robert Downy Jr. too during his early Romantic Comedy flicks.

I HATE PLANET OF THE APES... because I don't like monkeys... and apes.... which is probably why I also don't like the Ultra Ape deck. I DON"T LIKE MONKEYS... or anything Primate. mehhhhh....
Lemurs and bush Babies are the only monkeys I like because they are cuddly.

I saw that Sunday night during Family Guy - I actually thought at first that it was a gag that was part of the show!  The clip was pretty funny - Seth McFarland does the voice; easy to tell since Ted sounds so much like Brian from FG.  It's one of those "I dunno - maybe wait for cable" movies for me.

So.. I came across some info today that made me smile...

Who's the largest tire manufacturer in the world??  Michelin?  Bridgestone?

The answer may surprise you...  (highlight the blank area below to see the answer)
The answer is....   Lego

via Gizmodo

"50 Years Ago, Lego Invented The Wheel It was 50 years ago, in April of 1962, that primitive lego-cave-dwelling minifigs first developed the wheel. This ranks among the greatest milestones in Lego history since early minifig society first figured out how to smelt raw plastic ore into Lego bricks.
Since then, Lego has produced so many wheels they're the largest tire manufacturer in the world, making 381 million per year.
That first set, code 400, was released in 1962 and was pretty much just wheels. Those early wheels — white tires, separate axles that fit into any side of a special 4x2 block — replaced sets that had small, non-Lego-like toy cars."
Made me smile!

Well, it helps that the tires they make are a lot smaller...  They don't use anywhere near as much rubber!
