I came across this video on youtube, by kammagic, regarding using soap to make playing cards fan and spread better.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENPAfyFtMBY

So why do you think soaping a deck might make playing cards fan and spread?
What are your experiences with this prep deck technique?

this reminds me of the buttering the deck thread... I could try it with an old bike I guess.
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

Never tried this, but a few of my favorite decks do have a feel to them like a soap-film texture, and they handle very well - Archduke Eaglebacks, MSM Moth/Myth, MSM The Watcher.

Go to a drugstore or a dollar store, buy a cheap deck and test it out.  If it fails, all it cost you was a cheap deck.

I did try this on the All In brand deck but I couldn't tell if it worked or not.

I guess I can try it on my cartamundi eagles and see what happens...

I have never felt the need to use fanning powder, butter, soap, or any other tricks on my decks. I love them how they are.

Very interesting.  I've never seen anything like this and it obviously does help a poop deck.  I just cant imageine why i would take the time to do it when I have so many good decks I could just pick up and go with.  But neat information.

Well here is my video of soaping a deck

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIy3bHJOgD4

I just used dove that I got from a bundle from costco. It seemed to work a bit but then again I literally just broke in that deck which I could already fan to begin with.
It's a really redunant trick on uspcc cards though but if you have a poop deck then it's an odd option.

I would try it again but it's  lot more time consuming vs regular shuffles

I don't see what the advantages of doing this would be, but, anyways, it's fun to know!

It's for taking a deck that would normally handle like total crap and getting better performance out of it.  It could be a lousy dime-store deck or it could be a Massa deck that's been used a little too long, or any other deck where the cards themselves are in good shape but the finish keeled over and died.

Time consuming: yes.  Saves you money on fanning powder and new decks: yes.  And makes your cards smell fresh as an Irish spring!  :))

For you and others living north of the Rio Grande River, getting a pack of Bikes is no big deal; they're everywhere and we scoff at the quality of them.  But go somewhere like Australia or Great Britain: most forum members there have said many times that the domestic decks leave a little something to be desired and the import costs involved in buying American decks like Bikes makes them prohibitively expensive.  Getting more life out of a deck is NOT a bad thing, especially to these folks...
