Hello,

My name is Rob and, as you can probably tell from the title, I'm from Australia. Sydney to be a little more exact.

I've only been playing with cards for a relatively brief time, about 6 months.

I got into card because I used to be an automotive technician but got off the tools about 5 years ago to become a trainer. I found that after almost 20 years of continually having tools in my hand it was habit to always have something in my hand. This became my phone. About 6-7 months ago I saw a video of someone doing cardistry and got the idea to try and put my phone down and pick up cards. I've since developed a small addiction to playing cards, cardistry and card magic. I'm not very good at it but I only do it for myself, and to keep my hands busy. Some of the things kids do with cards is crazy. I'll likely never reach those heights.

I found this forum by listening to the discourse in magic podcast with Lee Asher on it.

Anyway, that's me. I'll be honest and say that I doubt I will post a lot, but I will read a lot.

Thank you for the welcome. I think I need to spend some time reading before posting. My questions might already be answered. That doesn't mean I would have an issue with bringing up an old topic. The answers might be different now.

If you have a relevant question or new information, don't be afraid to post to an old, quiet topic.  I prefer to think of it as breathing new life into it!

Hi Rob, I'm also new to this forum.

Coming from an automotive background, I thought maybe you'd be interested in the decks from Mechanic Industries.

I always find it really interesting to get a glimpse of others' interests/passions through their deck collections and a great way to introduce others with similar hobbies to card collecting/cardistry/magic.

Anyways, you should consider checking out their decks - also, the flip-book animation style of the gears moving on the backside of the cards are a really unique feature to show off. Check it out --> http://www.mechanicindustries.com/

Sincerely, Amy from Germany :D

Actually, the term "mechanic" is used in a different way by Mechanic Industries.  In card sharp parlance, a "mechanic" is someone who "fixes" card games, or in plainer terms, rigs them in his or someone else's favor!  The Mechanic Industries motto is "Fixing Games Since 2012!"  As I understand it, the company was created and is run by a British magician.

I do actually have a deck of the mechanic cards.

You're right though, I bought them because I'm as mechanic but also because they're marked. Mine are the 1st version so they're not marked for suit I think.

Yea, that's exactly why I suggested it; it's a double entendre in which perfectly bridges both his hobbies, both as a play on words and quite literally.
