I am at University, their blocklist is very limited, so I can access pretty much any website while I am on my laptop in class. I scan the Discourse fairly frequently while in class.

I don't go to school, but I'm pretty sure I could access it from almost any school if I wanted.  School security is a bit crap most of the time.

Quick! Enjoy the Discourse before naughty keywords cause your WebSense to block it!

Or you can just use a proxy to get here. :P

Wow.... That seems a bit harsh.

A web proxy is this

"A web proxy is a proxy server that passes along http protocol requests like any other proxy server. However, the web proxy accepts target URLs within a user's browser window, processes the request, and then displays the contents of the requested URL immediately back within the users browser. "

basically it allows you to access websites through a website. So if you are able to find a web proxy that you school has not blocked then you are able to view any web content you want through that because you will not be accessing the website you want ( say, the Discourse ) via your schools server, but though the proxy.

You could also run your own browser off a USB pen through a host of proxy servers, like Firefox with the FoxyProxy plugin, if your school has banned the proxy websites, too.  It sounds like they're using a list of banned words, so it's just a matter of finding a proxy whose title doesn't contain any of those words.  You could try proxify.co.uk camolist.com goodhider.com fastnopopups.com etc. etc.

Fine at university, there's no proxy or anything there. I'm surprised it's blocked at some places but that shows the reach of some filters. I think the keyword blocking is a bit on the ridiculous side though. I had a lot of trouble researching for a video games essay I was writing in college because of this.

Yes, it is.  School usually means education up to the age of 18 (or 16 if you leave early; not sure you can do that in America).
