Design & Development / Re: What Photoshop should I buy?
« on: March 29, 2012, 10:47:39 PM »
Hypothetically, you don't even need fancy cracks to get a free copy of photoshop, all you need to do is to block the ports that allow online verification on Adobe servers, and then use literally any valid activation key.
It's a very easy two minutes process that anyone can be told, you just need to find the information somewhere (and this specific method has a lot of misinformation going around, so most people use cracks anyway.)

As Alex said, piracy actually allows a wider public to become familiar with it. Once you use it for commercial purposes, you have no choice but to buy a license anyway, and you'll be much more likely to do so (as opposed to choosing a cheaper alternative) if you're already familiar with the program.

Nathan, it's not the signature, it's the "Found The Discourse via:" field. :P

My usual pledge is always 3 decks, and I gotta say I feel a little uneasy about the absence of an in-between tier. Many people will tell you it's the ideal amount - one deck for keeping sealed, one to use, and one more just in case. Two decks could end up not being enough, but six gets a little expensive... I'd be fine with 4 decks, too.
(I'd definitely pledge for 6 if I can afford it, but I'm still not sure of that yet. ::))

So... They're basically tumblr clones? I don't see the point. :-\

Well no tumblr is more of a blog format and this is more of pinning something to a cork board. You can't do text posts and what not. So there is a slight difference. They are pretty close though
Actually, depending on the theme you use, tumblr can have the exact same format as those.

@moon.exe yeah I was thinking about the same thing about the whole tumblr clone, minus the depressed teenagers claiming to have anorexia. (sorry if that offended anyone i did not mean any offense there)

The concept of "claiming to have anorexia" fails to hit any kind of sense in my mind so I'll skip on that, but I know what you mean about depressed teenagers. ::) The world could use a little less admiration towards a collection of cuts on your arms and legs.

What a waste of energy... ::)

Here are a few pictures of the stingers that Don previously mentioned. I also think that a faded border would look much better than a clean-cut white border.

I'm very interested in the deck regardless, the decision is yours, but there's my opinion. ;)

Eggman, I'm sorry, but as cleverly thought out as those "proofs" may be, they could also be used to "prove" that God does NOT exist. If everything must have been created, then the same logic should apply to God. For something to be excluded from a rule, it also needs a cause, as one of your arguments states.

If things like the existence of God could be proven, it would have been. I mean, it's been thousands of years. Be realistic.

I do not and will never claim that there doesn't exist something to put order into the universe, but religion is, by nature, created by man. Let's call "God" whatever causes the order of the universe. What argument do you have to prove to me that this "God" is anything like any of what the countless religions that exist claim? What makes the Christian theory worth more attention and practice than any other religion? Nothing.

And yes, I said theory. That word comes back a lot from christians arguing against evolution. I just wanted to point out that the same logic applies to religion. ::)

Dude, I actually thought this project was hopeless back when you first started, but I have to take back everything negative I said then. I actually REALLY like where it's going now. If that design is final, count me in. ;)

they will be made with Bicycle Grade Paper and will have an Air Cushion and Magic finish.
That's all the persuasion I needed. ;D
The court cards really are beautiful, very creative and inspiring. I'll be considering the 6 decks package if I can afford it, and I'll be sure to pledge for at least two otherwise. Good luck!

I still don't understand what is so bad about the smell, I actually kinda like it. It smells like quality. :P
I got 3 decks in the mail - hopefully they won't be damaged. TBC's international shipping is affordable, but less than decent in terms of padding. :-\
Those who have the deck already, do post pictures! I can't wait to see more of it.

Do you have any of the Nautic(#55) or Angel(#3) backs? Those two are probably my favorite designs under the Bicycle name.

Looks like we're roughly a month away from having those decks in our sweaty little palms...  :))
Hopefully not too sweaty, the cards wouldn't like that! ;D
I'd love to do a video review, but without a decent camera it's kind of a problem, so I didn't check. Though if I do get a good camera in time, I definitely would. ;)

I have absolutely no interest in uncuts, mainly because of their price. They have always been really overpriced and I'm just not willing to pay the premium. Maybe if one day the prices start to drop, then I could start buying a few. But until then, I really couldn't care less.

The plague doctor one would have to be my personal favorite, and it's also the one that blends in the best. I'm not a big fan of the impossible cubes in te corners, though. They kind of clash with the rest of the back, even though I can see why they would be used with the theme.
There is definitely room for improvement, but it's not horrible.
Except maybe for the third one. I just can't get myself to like it. ::)

The court cards are beautiful, the back design could've been much better but is still pretty nice, but the number cards look stupid to me. They're different for the sake of being different. And what's with the different colored ace of spades? That is one of the most ridiculous ideas I've ever seen. I wouldn't even use it for flourishing because of that one card sticking out. Better luck next time.

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Re: Terrible print job on V-slims.

I don't know this for sure but printing cards was probably less advanced than it is now. But... how could a batch of those not get caught as a bad one?
Who said anything about a batch? I'm pretty sure John was talking about a single deck; it was the only bad one in his order. Maybe it didn't get caught in quality control because it was a problem specific to that one deck.

68
Exactly expresses my thought. Well said friend. Add Moon and John to that for insulting me in that private chat room and making me feel terrible. :'(
:D
Might as well add Krystle and Aaron too, then. And if I'm not mistaken, there was more people as well. ::)
Nobody was trying to be mean on a personal level, the goal was to make you understand that most people didn't like your behavior and wanted you to change a few things. Has it never crossed your mind that when a majority of people disagree with you, you might be wrong in some way? I'm just saying. ;)
Anyway, whining about it won't make it any better; you're doing a relatively good job now, so let's just forget it and make sure it doesn't happen again in the future.

@Evan, I don't want to get into details, that's just my opinion. ;)

I'd be guessing Seasonsplayingcards.com or something like that

And you'd be guessing right; try it for yourself. :P

The site is empty for now, so it's no big deal, but now we know the domain is registered. ;)

I actually hope they're pink, it would change from all the red everywhere. ::)
The court cards look beautiful, not exactly full custom but still a lot more than just a recoloration. I don't understand the scans though, I see an ace of spades that isn'T the same color as the rest...? :-\

73
Ok. If everyone is okay with this, I am putting a deadline.
We need all cards to be assigned by Monday 19th of March 2011. And every single card should have at least one rough draft by 1 month from then, the 19th of April. That means that if everyone makes 1 draft per card they own, we should be close to being done by mid-April.
Oops, I missed your post.
I'd be fine with that, a month is a very reasonable delay for a draft.
Instead of posting a new comment everytime, could you put the list of what's taken or not in the original post instead so everyone knows where to look?

74
That hasn't been decided yet, but I remember Alex mentioned something about getting us a favor with USPC for a smaller-than-normal run. In the case of Archduke, lower costs would probably allow for a bigger run by comparison, but if the demand isn't high enough, it might not be worth it.

Krystle's blog post would be your best source of information if you want to avoid reading the whole thread, pretty much everything is there. It's a community project for Discourse members that is being run in a slightly chaotic way as of now, but if it gets finished, it should be a very interesting deck indeed. ;)

Design & Development / Re: Early stages of my next deck
« on: March 09, 2012, 03:06:13 AM »
It's been stated countless times that this deck is aimed at poker players and not magicians. The fact that it's a plastic deck should make that pretty obvious to begin with.
As for reverse card tricks, if you're refering to triumph or something similar, it may be harder, but not entirely impossible if you're actually willing to put the effort into it. I know a lot of people prefered Artifice V1 and hated the whiny magicians that caused it to disappear, me included.
