Thanks for that!
I've been looking for additional info as well thanks to your link, but it's not happening yet.

The other finds. BrookHill started pre-Prohibition and was around until the 60s.
Zahn Tobacco closed their doors in 1908 after the death of Mr. Zahn.

There is no Ace of spades. This is a 47/52 deck I saw today that I found intriguing that I didn't buy. Any ID from just the card back?

I've become so accustomed to tuck boxes with glued bottom flaps that I'm already bothered seeing a bottom tuck flap. Getting 2 or 3 cards that just won't sink down with the rest makes me cringe. If I have trouble putting them away, I won't likely get them out again.

They look good enough. Ironically, perhaps, I'd like them better if they didn't claim to be "for the players." Too much novelty in color and layout to take to the game.
I'm not sure what you mean, Don, by the peek corners and having to spread them out. That's the only "for the players" feature I like.

Perfect info, thank you!

I did try to find a region or culture where 6 or 666 were lucky numbers, but I found nothing.

I have another mystery deck that just won't google. There's a die-cut hole to show you the backs (which match the printed box anyway). The tongue of the box is pretty big, but not odd-shaped. I love this joker.
I'm surprised to find only English on the box, owing to the VDR and 1s on the cards.

Any info or other examples out there?

That sealed box is ... amazing. Wow.

I'm still guessing there is a fairly definitive date for the switch, because I haven't found anything markedly inconsistent  from 1939 to 1945. I'm specifically talking about the 8e era, only box 3b above.

I keep a cypress tab open at all times, by the way. Good stuff!

Was there a determinable period when the tucks opened from the front rather than the back? 3A and 3B in that picture (pre-1925 per the tax stamp) open from the front.

I have newer (1940+) decks that all open from the back (Rider, Oak Leaf, New Fan).
The 1939 [1919?] Stag Backs open from the front.

If you flip the Stag Backs over, all the printing (including direction) matches the other decks, leaving just the face and back swapped.

Any thoughts?

I asked the seller on eBay to relist these after they went unsold the first time around. I've done all the Googling I can take over the last few days and have seen nothing. I have them in hand now.

The cards have a nice rattle to them, so they haven't had moisture or humidity damage, and they don't sound to be additionally wrapped inside the box. The top flap reads air-cushion finish.

I have no other info. Does anyone know anything about this deck? AoS? Joker? Back?

Now why would he do that if his dad owns a card shop?

His current plan is to destroy any unsold decks in the interest of rarity. He's mentioned never selling / licensing / wholesaling them.

I'm in no way affiliated with jmac. I ~really~ like these cards.

They have a great cheese to function ratio, and the feel is consistent across the deck. I'm easily in for a couple.

(If this were my design, I would use standard 2-corner indices. That's always my preference for modern decks. I would also play around with Zing! and Thwap! for the cardback design and the cardback inside the aces.)

If the campaign funds, I'd offer the remaining decks to backers at a lower price with preferential treatment to the higher pledges.

I'd like a mixed pair as well.

The information on these is pretty scarce. Google is very little help; a few old newspaper ads come up mentioning them from the 40s and I've only seen a newer deck shown on WOPC. I bought these on a whim without the opportunity to research. Do I have anything here? Since one of the 10ยข stamps is partially detached, I might break into that deck soon.

92
These are my newest. I'm sure they didn't come this way originally, but they do fit in that box ~perfectly.~

Sealed Triumph and PlayTime (plus 34 interlocking plastic chips).

I came across this one at an antique shop in Dallas. I hadn't heard of them before. Google came up with a listing (that has already sold) on Etsy. An older version of that page might suggest they were asking $98.

I didn't buy them; this is the only picture I've got. Any backstory or value on these?

EDIT: Since the picture isn't great, here's all the text from the box.

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / US39 - Little-Duke - can't date.
« on: May 27, 2015, 08:51:11 PM »
I've got a deck of Little-Duke playing cards with no AoS date code. There's a partial tax stamp that appears to be any of the 1924 and earlier stamps. The text Toy Cards does not appear on the box. The only other time I've seen the text Playing Cards in lieu of Toy Cards is in a thread found here:
http://www.playingcardforum.com/index.php?topic=7542.msg108829#msg108829
Those 2 decks don't appear to come from the same lot (US39 and US39a showing, different stamps).

Can someone offer help to narrow down the date of the cards?

Dallas, TX here.

I'm a collector whose interest started with card playing. My dad taught me how to play poker back in the 70s and I've played recreationally since.

I've got about 500 decks that follow no specific theme. I like rare decks more than valuable decks. It's more fun for me to find a $5 Little-Duke deck than tossing out $25 to get a couple beautiful crowd-funded decks. I'll pick up any deck I don't already have at estate sales if they're a dollar. That's led me to have lots of cards with no real collectable value that I'm still glad to have. Kickstarter has definitely processed a few transactions on my behalf though.

Most recent:
No. 24 Little-Duke
10 opened 86 Bicycle Bridge Doily Back
non-repro sealed Steamboats

Current favorites:
Bicycle Oak Leaf Back
Detroit 250th Anniversary advertising decks

Most anticipated:
Delicious Deck

It's fun not just lurking here any more!

My 2015 price guide didn't download along with my Hochman's. I've got an open case with ConjArts. With that being said, I've got a value question.

I haven't seen Thistle Backs come up in a while. I've got the opportunity to pick up a deck with 52 only, no box, no jokers, and one non-facecard with 2 bent corners. The 51 others are in good shape. Should I wait for better or should I snatch these up under $20?

97
This was the first thread I saw on PCF. I was introduced to the site by googling Oak Leaf Back. I think the authenticity issue is behind us now, but I'll throw a quick pic of mine anyway.

I've got the generic "Uncle Sam" version of the Oak Leaf Back deck. Date code G, 1945 assumed. 52+J+EJ+bridge card.

Do these come up much? Do I have a chance of upgrading?

98
I haven't seen anywhere that USPCC bought Gibson either, but this makes it seem a good assumption:

I think I was googling Oak Leaf Back when I came across this site first. I lurked for a few months before registering.

This isn't my newest, nor my most prized, but I've always liked this one. I haven't seen another deck with the "Gibson" text on the back instead of USPCC.

(I'm editing this entry to include keywords... I couldn't find this when I searched for
NAT Playing Cards
Thanks)
