Hey guys, pretty good start so far on the campaign. I have quite a few ways to help get the word out throughout it so hopefully we can make the goal with no problems. I wanted to leave a note here that I stay really active on Instagram so if you're interested in following along and staying up to date daily be sure to follow me there. Cheers!

I especially like the tucks and the jokers. Nice looking deck in general. I always dig the uncolored sketches with a splash of color for the pips.

bookmarked!

Wow, these look really good! I LOVE your double spread of the truck, so great.

Thanks guys! Really appreciate that!

Hey everyone - I had some conversations with you guys when I originally launched the 1910 Brew House deck on Kickstarter way back in 2014. I've finally gotten around to updating the entire project, finishing the design work and simplifying the project structure. There are now two completely unique decks that go hand in hand and the reward tiers will be extremely simple and hopefully most will view as affordable. I'll keep in touch with this thread, especially as the project launches to take any advice you guys have to offer. You can go check out a preview of the project at the link below. Really excited to have a chance at finally bringing this project to life. Launches February 20, 2017.

Edit: Figures Squarespace would go down right after posting. If it doesn't work try checking back a little later. Sorry!

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Americana Deck — Limited Print KS
« on: October 20, 2014, 10:37:20 AM »
Yeah when I think "Americana" I think vintage America.. This design is super modern and doesn't really seem to fit with the name of the deck, maybe that's just me though. I also think the back could have easily become a 2-way back while keeping the same look.

Just wanted to post on here that I've made some updates to the project and added a second deck.

I wonder why no one is commenting on this deck. It is a pretty good looking deck to me, i mean it's 3am now but it still looks good i say.

I'm just wondering why is everyone printing "premium quality playing cards" on tucks now. There must be quite a large number of lousy quality decks running around for everyone to specify theirs of a premium quality?  ???

The tuck is ok, i do like the colour, and there is some nice art going around this deck. Nice back...and I'm just wondering if it was missed out or done on purpose, but there's like a stalk on the top left corner on the KoC and JoC, but none on the opposite side...minor detail.
And the pledge tiers doesn't run numerically. (Just nit-picking)

And i'm too lazy to read the updates at this time, but if the designer decides to go off with numbering all the decks instead of just that limited few (which doesn't really make sense), than i say good for him. I'm not too sure about having 2500 decks signed though....unless of course it is printed out.

Thanks for the kind words about the deck. That is a mistake on the art, it's all fixed now but it must have been a slightly earlier version that made it up. The pledge tiers are out of wack a bit, which bugs the heck out of me but unfortunately I can't touch them once they become backed. One of the main reasons is because two tiers (at $28 and $44) were added later on, so they have higher numbers. Ultimately that's just for my reference anyway though. I understand what you're saying about the "premium quality playing cards" being overused, but I view it more as just explaining what's in the box (like any other product would have) rather than trying to come off like these cards are better than others. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for posting it in the plethora, Rob.

I doubt I'll post a preview here, but should be launching it sometime this week, probably Thursday or Friday. I might talk to him, but $3-5 per order plus the cost of supplies would cut into my profit pretty hard after USPCC takes $4.50 or so for the production and Amazon/KS/Taxes all come in.

The pips weren't permanent I had planned to mess with those a bit later. I attached a more final version of the placement of the pips. Thanks for the feedback all - will be launching within the next 2 weeks.

All the feedback is appreciated. I understand completely about all of the decks being released right now. It does seem like there won't be a calm time to release, but maybe I'll give it one more week to launch it. It'll be up for around 30 days so I'd hope the people interested in putting money towards the deck could find a comfortable time to do so within that frame. I attached the AoS I have in the works.

I think they look clean and are definitely original. I like how that King connects but I think the Queen could connect a little better in the middle. The hair doesn't seem to flow into each other very fluidly. Hope that makes sense!

I think the artwork is well done. It looks like the indices are a bit small. I would base the size of those off of standard poker cards. I feel like the back design should be inversed of what you have. Not inversed in color, but basically right now the strong areas of your design are towards the edges, I think backs work better when they're strong in the center and work their way out towards the edges (if that makes sense). I also think your court faces would look stronger if the characters were enlarged and took up the majority of the card, and then have the flourishing just as a filler of whatever space is left. Right now there is a lot of unnecessary ornamentation around the characters, in my opinion. Cards are small enough as it is. It's looking pretty sweet though.

Sorry - I basically just mean have the design flow naturally through the spade. You designed the back for a rectangle, so design the AoS for a spade. I attached what I mean, it's just a random google search but it demonstrates it well.

I would steer away from placing the entire background into your AoS design. You'll want all of your line work throughout the deck to be proportionate - it'll be easier on the eyes and look more uniform. Also, it doesn't really flow too well.

I agree with Don about finding a true theme to your deck. Right now you have no theme, even if you do have custom backs, pips, AoS, etc. You can obviously direct people at the theme through the tuck design, but if people can't figure out the theme through the cards themselves, you haven't quite hit your mark. Decks won't get funded on KS unless the design is incredible, or they have a very interesting and popular theme (and still have to look decent). I think right now your back looks like a rough idea of what your trying to do, same with the AoS. I would look heavily at other line art back designs and then start cleaning yours up (in Illustrator I hope, not Photoshop). I would also consider doing full custom faces, rather than recoloring of the standards. I don't know about others, but as a designer myself, I can't stand to see people recoloring standards or simply not even messing with standards on custom cards. To me, it always seems like a lack of effort. Put your own flare on them and it would even further push your theme.
