Design & Development / Re: Revolution Deck

What if you did two flags with a design in the middle, or two crossed fags?

Here is a (crappy) image of *kind of* what I am talking about. (Forgive the image, I only have access to MSPaint at work...  :-\)

Edit: Those are supposed to be eagles on a coin in the middle, for those of you that can only see scribble of blobs of crap.

EAGLES.

Double plus edit: Pretend there are stars on the flag. Cause apparently stars are true to cannon for America-stuff.

The hard edged pips are not working for me. I like the simple English-Laundry-inspired look the backs have however, even using the background 'fence' pattern. I'm not terribly fond of the highlighting of the wings on the copper deck but I'm always interested in a novelty deck, I wonder how thin the cards are going to be individually..

Edit: Just saw it listed as .03mm thickness.

I just got a deck of the original Blue Bloods off eBay and received them over the weekend; Could not be more excited to own this deck and am thinking I will pick up a redux just so I can have the full catalog of Uusi decks after once the Pagan deck shows up.

I love this deck and am enjoying watching this project evolve, the addition of the book was a nice touch and adds a lot of depth that some card projects lack without a connection to anything greater; it's nice.

One problem I have is that the card back design conflicts, for me, with the card faces. There is too much contrasts between the simple monochromatic line artwork of the faces with the ornate and vibrant colored Persian patterning of the backs it breaks up the whole design for me with what feels like a lack of consistency.

Despite that though I really like what the designer has put together and am absolutely on-board.

Jackson, this card back looks great! I really like the intricate geometry, the fine line work, the subtle, almost argyle look to it.
Any way we could see the left card back without the white diamonds? I am loving the look of this but something is off and I can't quite place it...

Still excited to see you do a classic English tartan/plaid design with some of your signature print-pressed-esque line work embellishing..

What a fun Idea!

Playing Card Plethora / How do you guys value open/used decks?
« on: December 10, 2013, 10:09:44 PM »
What would you guys say is a good (albeit loose) guideline for what you can expect on average to pay for opened decks with unused cards as well as opened tucks and used cards
Would a good rule of thumb, for example, be: Opened tuck/unused cards is worth 40% of a decks rough estimated value whereas opened tuck/used cards would be worth roughly 20% of a decks value?

I try not to buy decks that are opened, I like brand new shiny decks, but sometimes those are hard to find and I'm new enough to collecting that I don't have a comfortable feel for gauging a decks worth with my limited experience so I'm looking for a little bit of direction despite what I imagine can vary pretty greatly from person to person.

Jackson Robinson's most recent kickstarter project closed today at just over a whopping 100k in funds generated for the project!

Those of you that backed are really in for a treat with what has turned into an amazing project!

Jackson,
I cannot get over how much I love that black Reserve Note, I could not be more jealous I won't have one. They aren't even out yet. Pre-jealousy.

I hadn't even realized my post here had been merged, I thought it was deleted =P
Couldn't be more excited for the deck!!! By far the most I have put into a KS project to date!
If you guys check out the two sided Yes/No gaff card and can zoom in on the bottom you will see a little personalization to the backer that planted a little seed of an idea that Chris turned into an amazing card! I can't wait to pull it out and show everyone I know!

We actually have a Molokov Milk Bar in New York...

Really? That is horrorshow! is it intentionally themed after Clockwork Orange? Or is it just a milk bar in the spirit of?

Quick tip on the search function...
It only searches the board you are in so make sure you search from the home page for the widest variety of hits.  Took me a while to figure this out but I thought it might be limiting your searches unbeknownst to you.  This of course doesn't mean you can't ask the question I just thought this may help in the future.  If you already knew this then carry on.   :)

I didn't know that!! That's really good to know! Thanks kdklown! I will definitely keep that in mind; I would have never known...  :karrit:

Joseph Porper clips are the gold standard.  Yes, they apply good pressure to a pack of cards.  Yes, this can abuse the tuck box a bit.  But if you're a cardist or a magician who insists on perfectly flat cards, it's the best, simplest solution.
...
There are some variants on the Porper.  Dan and Dave have been doing assorted decorative clips, the most recent of which don't have the M-shaped spring in the spine.
...

Thanks Don, I appreciate the info.
In your personal opinion do you think the M bend offers better hold (i.e. a more even pressure) to a degree that makes them worth getting over the 'straight backed' Porpers like DD offers?

I have heard a lot of mixed opinions about clips; the general consensus is that Porper clips are the best for keeping the cards in great shape but are really hard on the tucks, which is kind of a turn off. But I haven't heard anything reliable about any of the poly/synth/plastic clips. Also I remember seeing a bamboo clip for the... Tendrils deck was it? That was supposed to be pretty good, but I heard that there were a lot of issues behind the scenes that were making people unhappy with whomever was producing them.

Is there a good thread that covers Card Clips in a kind of pro's/con's format, or just a good breakdown of clips in general? I haven't had too much luck with the search function and this seemed like a good place to ask for opinions and suggestions. The ones that keep catching my eye are DDs Classic Clips, which are Porper clips but do not have the "M" bend to even the pressure.. Is that going to be a detriment in the long run?

Also: On DD in the images for their Classic Clips they show some leather wrapped clips that look really nice but they don't offer them as a 'color option'. I contacted them a while back and they just said they "Might be getting more in"... Does anyone have one of these? Are they nice? Will DD ever get more of them in do you think?

[Edited to ammend a question]

As for the third deck ... this guy in Australia sold a deck of these for 99 cents last July (plus $18 shipping) on ebay.au ... most of the larger pictures are gone now, but he might still have some info on the deck ... ebay ID = multiplicity_by_id

Hey! Thanks for the heads up!! I will definitely look into that. I don't even know what the decks look like but I really dig the packaging.
Since joining this forum my 'must haves' list is getting bigger and bigger. Dangerously, expensively bigger...

The first are massa playing cards, sometimes referred to as gold massas. The second is the oriental deck. The third, judging by the box, is sweet little things. Maybe show us the tuck and/or some of the cards?

Thanks! I will go check out those decks!
As far as the second is concerned I would if I could find any, I did multiple internet searches along the lines of "Sweet little things playing cards' "Sweet little things two decks" and didn't come up with anything. Maybe someone will be familiar =)
I appreciate it though Nurul!!

Introduce Yourself / New to the Forum, just wanting to say hey
« on: December 04, 2013, 01:56:32 AM »
Hey tDiscourse, my name's Justin, just wanted to pop in and throw out an introduction before I dive in and get started.
I've browsed the forum pretty actively, using it to find new projects that caught my eye or research what my next must have deck would be but I'm excited to get started being an active member.
I live in Portland Oregon in the states and haven't found a collectors community locally so I usually have to find information sporadically online or by haunting forums  :-\

I got into cards through working at a job that didn't let me have a pen and paper at my computer desk. I needed something to do while I was at my workstation so I brought a deck of cards in to keep my hands busy shuffling and playing Solitaire (Which got pretty boring pretty fast) and then found 52kards.com while looking for 'card tricks' on YouTube. From there I went a little crazy trying to learn cardistry flourishes and magic anywhere I could find online which naturally evolved into a very passionate collection of contemporary playing cards. all things considered I am a terrible cardist, an awful magician and have a respectably small collection and I love every minute of it!

I'll see you all on the boards!

Hey guys, I just wanted to promote a Kickstarter deck I am really amped about, a project I started backing and have become passionately excited about seeing come to life.

The Oracle Deck, a USPCC custom project themed around mysticism and the mediums of paranormal communication, beautifully designed by an experience card designer who is already familiar with successfully creating a deck of cads through Kickstarter.

Here's the link, I hope you guys don't mind me promoting this, but as a collector of cards that is really excited about this deck I really want to help out as much as I can to see how far we can get it!!
