No. This is a current item. The decks are specially made for the classic card game of Canasta.
Thanks!

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

The canasta decks did come in an older and newer version - the older version was available in two colors, red and blue, while the newer just comes in one (I think red).  You actually need two 52-card decks to make a single canasta deck.

If I had to guess, I'd say your package you spotted on eBay is the older of the two listed.  I recently bought the newer one.  The contents of the boxes could be completely identical, however - they could be two different packagings for the same version of the two-deck set.

The two red/blue decks you linked two are the older canasta decks.  I can't say that I've ever seen them as a set.  But it's not uncommon for a manufacturer to tweak the packaging a little now and then - for the exact same reason you're asking if the two versions pictured near the top of this topic are the same.  Refreshing the product might catch someone's eye, the same someone who might not have even noticed the older packaging.  And there's so many other possible reasons for a design tweak, like branding uniformity, the need to comply with some law affecting playing cards, etc.

What is canasta anyways?

Canasta is a card game that was phenomenally popular in the 1950s in the US, and through South America in the decade preceding.

That's good to know.  So, I could, for example, tell you that "canasta" is a variety of silver-haired gorilla whose habitat is above the Arctic Circle, or a rare tree fungus being used to cure certain types of acne, or maybe a small island nation thirteen hundred miles off the coast of Japan, or one of the higher levels of Tibetan Buddhist meditation, and you'd never know the difference... (mwahahahahahaha)

Do the research next time, or I will start feeding you nonsensical crap-quality information...
