Some use special hand lotion, some refuse to do springs, others have banned farrows on black decks (chipping I believe - I disagree with this one). What lengths do you guys go to?

ditto, I wash my hands before handling them, make it a good habit to put the cards back into the tuck boxes, and place the decks in the electric dry cabinets to control the humidity when I don't use them. Besides, I don't need card clip or card press.

Avoiding springs and faros is ridiculous... What's the point of keeping your deck clean if you can't have fun with it?
I keep my hands clean and I put the deck back in the box when I'm done, that's about it. It's always been enough so far.

If I open it then I don't do much to protect it. I don't do anything dumb with it but I use it just like I would any other regular deck.

I don't do too much, especially if the deck is opened.  I make sure my hands and playing surface/performance space is as clean and finger-grease free as I can get them.  I use D&D's Hand Lotion, but that's more to moisturize than to protect my cards - though the lotion does absorb quickly and leaves no greasy feeling, allowing you to pick up a deck shortly after applying.  Plus I like the coffee smell.

The few occasions I didn't have control over cleanliness of where I performed, I paid the price in ruined decks.  Now my "carry everywhere" decks are cheap and easily obtained, while at the same time not being garden-variety Rider Backs.  I've also been known to carry the Karnival Death Heads - they handle surprisingly well for a plastic deck, though the deck box is shamefully flimsy.

I just make sure that I wash my hands before touching the cards. Also, if I'm going to be using them I just make sure I don't bend them too far for too long.
As I'm a collector, I only open and use decks excessively if I have 3 or more of that deck, if they're very cheap or if I bought them used. For instance, my current regular use decks are a rider back, a Bee deck, and a deck of blue Virginia Slims. But still, I don't go mental even with those decks - I'm always gentle with them. I try to make decks last as long as possible.

Thank you guys for just confirming that I am not a maniac hell bent on card destruction. I just play about with the decks - if its a deck I use to perform it'll be one I have replacements of, and usually a cheapish deck anyway. With the decks kept for collection, I have mess about - and then I just reorder them (I am so OCD about deck orders) and put them in the tuck box, in their cabinet. Thank god, I was worried my decks would end up mangled :/ :L

A properly executed spring or faro should do nothing to the deck that ordinary use wouldn't already do.  But you never do them properly when you're first learning them - in that case you use something cheap and easily obtained, not something collectible.

And it's spelled "faro".  The name comes from a game called Faro, originally known as Pharaoh - Faro was easier to spell.  Unlike the common belief that poker was a big deal in the Old West of the late 19th-century U.S., Faro was the game of choice for gambling more often than not, and it was run casino-style at a table in bars all over the place, much like you'd see craps and roulette played today.

One of the features of the game was splitting a shuffled deck in half, flipping over a card from one half and placing bets on whether the next card would be equal to, higher than or lower than the next card.  One of the end results was frequently you'd have pairs of even cards ending up together (I think the house won some sort of bonus on two cards of equal value, and many unscrupulous bar owners would fix the game to increase the chances of that happening).  When a game was completed, a special shuffle was used (and in some cases, abused) to insure that no two cards from the previous game were still together for the next game - hence, the faro shuffle was born.

The faro is the "perfect" version of the weave shuffle.  Whenever you attempt a faro and any two or more cards from the same half remain together, you're not doing a faro, you're doing a weave.  Faro shuffles come in two varieties: the in-faro changed the top and bottom cards, while the out-faro kept them the same.  Eight consecutive out-faro shuffles will bring a 52-card deck to its original order, as will 52 in-faro shuffles, while 26 in-faro shuffles will reverse the order from the starting order.

Yes, faros were invented for a game played with pairs, and riffle shuffles didn't mix all of them, so that was a problem.
Anyways, getting back on topic, I just put my cards back inside their boxes, in their storage place, and make sure not to step on them :P Other than that, not much.

I don`t do mch, I do wash my hands before handling my decks, and I use them on a clean surface, if it is a deck that I like alot and don`t want to wear out I won`t handle it as hard but for the most part I just use it to enjoy.
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

use common decks for practice and wash your hands before you do.

Dont use flourishes that you know will worn out the cards and use a porper clip/ store your cards to a cool place to reduce/avoid warping!

I give my decks a rubdown after they take a nice steam in the sauna... If they're deserving, I may even cook them some dinner followed by some Remy Martin XO... I find that treating the decks with such TLC assures that they'll handle flawlessly...

LLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL haha ok. What a waste :P
What I also do with my decks is sometimes rub the faces of every card. That adds some sweat to every card and works kinda like fanning powder.

Usually have categories. Collected/Flourishing/Audience.

Collected remains untouched.
Flourishing will use nicer cards but be kept in good conditions because I'm the only one touching the deck.
Audience decks would be for magic and card games and the travel around that you don't mind brushing down in the grass

I do not open alot of my decks but for those that I did, I do not worry about taking care of them. To me, those are meant to be played with and not collected. The only decks that I worried about are the rarer or more expensive decks and it is more about storage option and keeping the cello undamaged.

Though I am very very very tempted to open one of my Gold Arcanes. I have seen the photos but have not yet open one to drool over.

Gold Arcanes are the first-ever Magic Finish deck, great for flourishing - that Ekaterina video looks really nice!  But as an ordinary magic deck or even just as playing cards, there are some design flaws.  The biggest one I can think of off the top of my head is that while the spot cards all have red and gold pips, the court cards have all-gold pips.  It's a little distracting/annoying, like mixing and matching the two different Viper decks or Black Tiger decks together.
