Introduce Yourself / 'Sup, Guys?
« on: April 28, 2012, 07:21:54 PM »
Hey, I'm Lushbob. Some of you may remember me from such months as December, January, and February.
So yeah, some of you guys will remember me. I kind of, unexpectedly disappeared. Schoolwork was really catching up with me, and it still is! I've got massively important exams starting in two weeks that last for the next two months, but after that I'm really going to try and become an active member of this community again.
I love cards, and I realise that I can still show a huge interest in them while refraining from buying any. See, I bought the David Blaine Variety Box for $150 (and then some more for international postage), and it never turned up. It's past the time that I can reclaim the money through PayPal, and the DB shop aren't replying to any of my emails either. That's when I realised that I'd blown £100+ on nothing. So, I cut down my spending so much that cards were totally out of the picture. And then I stopped checking AetherCards to stop tempting myself, and after I hadn't been on for a while it was really hard to start again. But I'm going to make an effort, and it'll be my summer holidays so I should have a lot of time to kill.

Wow. That was longer than I expected. Basically, I won't be collecting cards as much as I used to, but in a few weeks I hope you'll all see me back on here and more active.
Oh, and I'll be breaking my no-buying rule in the case of the Seasons decks.  ;)

 Peace out!

The Conversation Parlor / Skype Group Chat
« on: January 29, 2012, 05:28:27 PM »
Hey guys.
I was just thinking, it seems quite a few of us seem to have Skype accounts. So, I thought it would be fun to have a Discourse Skype group chat for us all to chat in.
So, if you like the sound of that, then feel free to leave your username in a reply or a PM to me, and I'll add you to the group!
I think it'd be a great way for us to all get to know each other a bit more.

The Conversation Parlor / Any musicians amongst you guys?
« on: January 26, 2012, 11:56:07 AM »
Hey. I was wondering if anyone else here is a musician?
I play clarinet and piano, and I'm not too bad at singing. I can play ukulele pretty basically, I'm trying to teach myself guitar (I'm waiting until I have a little more time), and I can play some basic percussion. And I can play saxophone pretty well, too - it's effectively the same as clarinet.
So, any other musicians amongst you? Speak up here!

Playing Card Plethora / Inconsistencies between Tally-Ho tuckboxes?
« on: January 26, 2012, 10:45:42 AM »
I just bought a friend a few Tally-Ho decks from theory11. They arrived in the mail this morning, so I opened them and took a look at the boxes, just to make sure everything was in good condition. But I spotted something odd that I hadn't seen before on the Tally-Ho boxes.
I've attached a couple of pictures, to help explain what I'm talking about.
Basically, there are a couple of weird differences between the Tally-Ho Circle back and Fan back tuckboxes. On the bottom of the Fan back, the box just says 'Tally-Ho POKER 9'. Yet, on the bottom of the Circle back box, there's a whole bunch of copyright information. And on the sides of the boxes, the Circle back box says 'The U.S. Playing Card Co.', but the Fan back box also says 'Cincinatti, Ohio 45212'.
I know it doesn't really matter much, but I'm just curious as to why the boxes would differ from each other, when it seems that they were both printed at the same time. Does anyone know? Any help would be great! :)
(The Circle back is on top, and the Fan back is on the bottom in both photos)

Playing Card Plethora / 3 New D&D Releases
« on: January 04, 2012, 03:09:32 PM »
Hey, guys. I just read this on Dan and Dave's facebook wall: "Visit us this Friday as we announce the GRAND PRIZE winner for our Holiday Contest and officially kick off 2012 with 3 amazing new products."
I've posted it up here because I'm guessing that at least one of these releases will be a deck of cards. I'm not sure, though. I mean, they did just release Tungstene, Jerry's Nugget and Arrco decks. Admittedly, none of these were actually their own decks, so maybe that means that this release will be a release from Dan and Dave themselves?
Either way, I'm pretty sure at least one of them will be a deck of cards. What do you guys think the deck will be?

I've been interested in this deck for a while. It was a limited edition deck that Lance T. Miller made for his Gargoyles deck; a prototype deck, of sorts. I'm not sure why it was made as a Labelexpo deck. I'm guessing it was given away at Labelexpo or something.
It comes with a thick plastic covering showing some art on it instead of cellophane. The card backs are the same as the normal Gargoyles deck, just a lot darker. The faces all show normal Bicycle faces instead of the finished faces, except for the Ace of Spades which is the same as the finished version although, again, a lot darker.
Lance sold them on his website for $5 each, although they're sold out now. I've contacted him multiple times through the Contact section of his website, but I have not received any reply from him.
I'm really looking to get hold of this deck, so if any of you have it, or can tell me where I could purchase it, that'd be great.
Of course, I'd love to get it at the original price of $5, but I doubt I'll find that deal anywhere. So I'd be willing to go up to $20. Thanks.

Playing Card Plethora / D&D Variety Box v1 on eBay
« on: January 03, 2012, 09:45:44 AM »
I'm just quickly saying that you can get the Dan and Dave Variety Box v1 over on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/120834260445?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
The auction ends in about 3 hours, and I'm guessing the price will get pretty high, but I just wanted to give a heads up to any collectors eager to get this box.
Don't worry, it's not my auction; this isn't self-advertising. Just thought I'd let you guys know, in case there's one of you who's been wanting the v1 box.
I'll lock the topic when the auction's over.  :) Also, I didn't know whether this was the right place to post this or not, so just let me know if I've put it in the wrong place. Thanks.

Playing Card Plethora / Ask Alexander and Erdnaseum Uncut Sheets
« on: December 31, 2011, 11:18:43 PM »
Ask Alexander and Erdnaseum Uncut sheets are available at the CARC website for $29.99 each (postpaid domestic shipping, international shipping is $11 each).
Just thought I'd let you guys know, in case any of you are uncut collectors, and/or fans of these decks.
I personally won't be picking up either of these, although I do love the Erdnaseum back designs, with the ambigram reading 'S. W. Erdnase' one way, and 'W. E. Sanders' the other way.

Edit: Sorry, forgot to add the links: http://conjuringarts.org/2011/11/erdnaseum-uncut-sheets/ (Erdnaseum uncut sheet)

Playing Card Plethora / Ask Alexander Porper Clips
« on: December 31, 2011, 10:53:33 PM »
This looks great for any fans of the Ask Alexander deck who are out there.
You can get Porper Clips that have been designed to emulate an Ask Alexander deck. They're a deep, crimson red colour, with the engraving in white. Looks awesome to me.
The best thing about it, if you order it from the CARC website, you can pick up an Ask Alexander Porper Clip for $39.99 (postpaid to the US), and you get 2 free Ask Alexander decks (one Cambric finish, and one Ivory finish).
Looks like a pretty nice deal, especially to big fans of the Ask Alexander deck.
Here's the link to pick up a clip from the CARC site; http://conjuringarts.org/2011/12/ask-alexander-card-clips/

Playing Card Plethora / Bicycle Ribbon Edition Series?
« on: December 30, 2011, 03:46:50 PM »
Hey.
I've got something here that has got me pretty confused, so I thought I'd post it up over here and see what you guys have to say about it. I'll dive straight into it.
A couple of years ago, I bought a Bicycle Ribbon Edition Deck. It came in cellophane, but without a seal. At the time, I didn't think anything of it. I knew that some decks came with the sticker seals. But this morning, a package arrived for me in the mail from KPopFever605. One of the decks was the same Ribbon Edition Deck that I already have (not the deck I thought I'd ordered, but that's a different matter). The curious thing was, that this deck had a seal on it. I'd bought it as a used deck, so the seal was broken, which I was fine with, especially as it meant I could check out the cards. The weird thing is, the cards inside have ribbons in each corner of the card, instead of angels like on a regular rider back deck. Yet, in my deck, the cards are just pink rider backs; no ribbons. And the faces on the new decks have either one or two ribbons incorporated in it somewhere, yet mine just has regular Bicycle faces, with the exception of the red suits being pink. The weirder thing is that the back of the deck box shows a face down card without ribbons in the corners. And yet, one of these decks did have ribbons in the corners.
I've still got a sealed deck of the Ribbon Edition deck that I bought a few years ago, and I checked that box aswell. It didn't have a seal either. And the little tag that you can pull to unwrap the cellophane doesn't say 'Bicycle' across it as a few of my other sealed Bicycles do.
What I really want to know is, are the two decks that I bought a few years ago fake decks? The handling is just the same as a normal deck, and the cards feel the same thickness and everything. But I can't think of any other conclusion to make, other than a fake deck of cards, a balls up at the USPCC, or a different edition of the Ribbon Edition deck.
Also, while digging around, I found some other pictures of the deck that look to be the same as KPopFever605's deck; http://www.doobybrain.com/2009/09/07/bicycle-pink-ribbon-playing-cards/
I've posted some pictures below. The deck on the left is my deck from a few years ago, and the deck on the right is the one I just received from KPopFever605. Sorry about the bad quality/lighting; I just quickly used my cell phone to take the pictures.
Also, sorry about the wall of text above. Just trying to make myself as clear as possible, though I fear I've just confused the issue even more. Any help is appreciated.  :)

I'm looking for all three of the Bicycle 2008 Election Decks. I asked on here, mainly because I want them as cheap as possible, and while I'll only accept good quality cards, I don't mind if they're sealed or not. So, if anyone has these three decks that they'd like to sell, then just drop a comment down here or PM me. Please note that I live in the UK, so we'll need to discuss shipping costs.
Also, if no one here has them, then it'd be great to get a link to a site that sells all three of them for quite a cheap price. Preferably a UK based site, as I'd rather not have to shell out so much for shipping.
And just to point out, it's probable that I won't be buying them immediately, so it'd be better to have a link to a store rather than say, an eBay sale that ends in the next few days.
Thanks!
