Playing Card Plethora / Re: who jack the prices of decks?
« on: October 10, 2011, 11:02:59 PM »
I had started a thread about this here: http://aethercards.com/discourse/index.php?topic=77.0

As magic said, there is a lot to do with supply and demand. But as Alex had posted in my original topic, A lot of the blame for higher deck costs is with the original distributor ( D&D, T11...ect. ). With people running businesses on ebay and from personal websites, they are allowed to purchase large amounts of stock, therefore lowering the stock that is sold to the public at the original retail price.

Also, as I stated in my original post on the thread I linked, If people are willing to spend larger amounts of money on sold out decks, then there is no reason for resellers to lower their prices... everyone would like to make as much money as they possibly can.

Mythbusters, Penn&Teller; BS, QI (impossible British panel quiz), Dexter, Futurama, South Park, Family Guy, An Idiot Abroad (British travel show; exactly what it sounds like).

They're the only things that are still being made that I like.

Nice! another Dexter fan, what do you think of the new season so far? I thought the premier was better than tonights episode but I think I am probably at that stage where its going to be hard for me to not like any one of their episodes entirely.

I am torn on this one, between the Artifice and Si Scott's designs. Both are quite unique and are very different styles, so thats why I think I like them both so much. I like how the subtle red is used in the V6 ace, with the signature Si Scott line work. But on the other hand I like the different parts incorporated into the Artifice ace with the dual guns as the stem and having the different layers of depth shown on the spade.

I agree with you on that one Phantom. I was given an 1800 series deck from a friend and have tried it out a few times but just do not like how it feels. The design is quite cool, and lots of people I know have commented about how it looks but I rarely ever use the deck because it feels......odd.

This "Fantastique" deck has its pros and cons for me. In my opinion, the front box art is awesome but I feel the back art is lacking a bit. The back looks to divided, it is too obvious that it is just a mirrored image on the top and bottom and not tied together nicely like other custom decks. I like the style of art that is used but thats just a personal taste. I will defiantly pick up a deck or two of these when they are released whether or not they are limited or not. But I would expect they are limited, seeing as Dan and Dave don't have any continual production decks.

I doubt the woman who was caught for stealing was a collector or practised cardistry. If she did either of those she would have known how simple it was to tell she had stolen the decks, because they were not even released yet. I think it most likely was a disgruntled employee who found out how much certain decks can be sold for and tried to make a quick buck

Thanks Alex and thanks community,

I will try my best to answer any questions you guys may have about playing cards. I usually have some way or another of connecting to the Discourse so if you have any problems that you think I can solve or questions I can answer, shoot me a PM and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

And HEARTS, the kickstarter launches in Oct. 10th at 12am EST.

ah ok,...so the artifice have the magic finish?

From what I have read, the performance finish is a very, very minor variance from the magic finish. Nothing that anyone would be able to feel the difference with. So no, the artifice does not have the magic finish, it has the performance but they are virtually identical.

I don't mean that I buy 3 bricks or so, just some more, maybe 3-4

You can edit any of your post by clicking the modify button on either the bottom right or top right of the post. It is just proper forum etiquette to edit rather than double post.

Yes, the decks were stolen but they were never sold on ebay. All of the auction were shut down and all bids canceled. Because of this I can only assume the proper action was taken by USPCC. Also, why are you surprised it was a girl? Everyone wants money but some are more willing to sacrifice their morals to gain it.

I actually would not like them to release a v7. It is time for a change, they need a re design, they need to put more effort into a deck than just changing the colour 3 ( if they do a v7, 4 times ). Saying that, I would most likely buy v7's if they were released but I would not be excited for them to release unless they completely redesigned the deck.

NPH is indeed a member of the magic castle and is not only a fan but does practise magic on occasion. He also hosted the world magic awards in 2008. Quite a funny guy and great personality.

okay well you can check somewhere

Alex has not released all the stages of user ranks, although he has stated that there are different ones up to 10,000 posts. Guys, please do not get all flustered about user ranks and posts. The number of posts comes secondary to the quality of each post in the forum. Yes it is cool to have a higher rank than everyone else, but no one really cares unless you are an asset to the community.

Remember, this is a forum, not twitter... your are allowed to use more than 140 characters :P

There are a few ways to look at users post counts.

1. Look under their name or avatar
2. go to the "Members" button at the top and select " View memberlist", there you can view every user and their post count, you can even sort by post count.
3. Near the bottom of the main page, there is a button marked "More Stats" in there you can see the users with the highest post counts and a bunch of other stuff

Hope that helps.

Great change, makes a lot more sense visually and it I found it a bit annoying to have all of those squares running down the side of my page each time I opened up a new thread to read.

Serj Tankian is awesome. I love to listen to System of a Down when I go snowboarding and randomly on occasion. A lot of their songs are quite good, really gets you pumped up.

Some randoms songs I have started to like

Virgin - Manchester Orchestra
Halloween - Marylin Manson

I don't usually listen to these guys that much but some songs just sounds pretty cool

I am selling V6 for $14.99 each. I have 9 available. U.S. Shipping only

I am not sure how much that is going to help. Judging by his forum profile, he is from Australia. I think he is going to have to look for a seller in oz, mainly just because its going to cost quite a bit to ship from North America and Europe and its not really going to be worth it unless he his buying a decent amount of cards...or is getting an amazing deal.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Your Opinions on Scalpers/Resellers

Trading is a nice way to go to obtain decks although some people are scared off it a bit because it heavily relies on trust from both parties involved. Unlike where if you purchase something on eBay you can file claims and see feedback. As for it being impossible to stop buying decks, that sounds like a mental disorder like OCD ( Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ) and should probably try and visit a therapist or something, because it probably would not only effect the playing card aspect of their life but other parts as well.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Your Opinions on Scalpers/Resellers

Junjie, that is exactly what I had posted in my original post. And then yet again in my follow up post.

As you can see here

So, How to stop card scalpers? simple, do not buy from resellers. Although, your going to have to convince a majority of everyone else that purchases from resellers to do the same as well. It is simple supply and demand, if people continue to buy, there will be somebody to sell it to them.

And

And yes, as I stated in my original post; the only way I ever see a decrease in resellers and high resell values is if people just stop purchasing from them......which is not likely to happen.

But as I said, unless literally everybody collectively agrees not to, then nothing will happen and the trend will continue on.

I do not agree with you, you have bought 4 extra and make someone to buy 4 less to collect... i wanted to buy them but it is you resellers that made it sold out and now it is increasing in price.. well done..... Have you ever think of developing countries? They do not earn so much money as people in developed countries and you people in developed countries are more richer, you have made some people that are poorer to not own a luxury deck at a affordable price...(This is what i think, i am not trying to cause a argument or what so ever)

What you have to remember is, I am not buying a necessity and selling for a high price, I am selling a luxury. I do indeed think about developing countries and my first though would be, why on earth would you spend money on 54 pieces of paper if you could not afford your next meal? That logic just does not make sense. I, by no means am rich, but I would say my family has an above average wealth compared to others in my city (population ~ 130 000). That being said, I spend a small percentage of the money I earn from work on playing cards. Would I buy a Red Artifice deck for $40+? Heck no... I don't need cards, I want them but I would not sulk and become depressed if I did not own them. There is always something more important to spend your money on than playing cards, especially if you are of a lower income.

Thank you for sharing your opinion, and I respect it and you. People expressing their different opinions adds great depth to a discussion and its great for the Aether community.

Here is a website that can probably answer most of your questions.

http://playingcards.wikidot.com/

Look at the bottom section on the left hand navigation called "Rare Decks" it not an entire list but the decks that are listed there have great descriptions of them and a bit of background on the cards.

Wow, 100 million dollar in 24 hours eh? hmm..

There would be a few instant purchases, such as house, a car and paying off my tuition fees. I would also cover the rest of the mortgage on my parents house. My main goal would be to invest smartly and that way it would allow me to be financially stable for the rest of my life. I would hope that my social life would stay fairly similar because I like how it is now and I would hope my friends would not treat me any differently. I would try to live my life the roughly the same as I do now, remain down to earth and not allow the money to go to my head.

.... I might by a Cage Garden set... :)
