Title: Hilarity
Post by: xela on October 18, 2011, 08:09:27 PM
Some bloke spent the last two days creating over 50 fake accounts on this forum. Registering doesn't require email activation here, but what it does require is some basic input to create an account. On average, it takes a few minutes to make one.

This guy spent at least an hour, if not more, of his time making accounts, and we have a lovely feature that allows us to mass delete accounts.

What took him 1-3 hours to do took me literally under 30 seconds to undo.

I'm flattered people would waste their valuable time in honor of The Discourse.

So amusing. You'd think people would work on bettering themselves and focusing on their own goals instead of trying to bother others who are actually working on completing real goals. Oh well.

The same IP has been at it for over six hours now.

I mean - is it really hating on someone when you waste your life away giving them a joke?

Ether that or they spent the time to make a program that would consistently make accounts for the sake of spamming

so what is the point of that many accounts? I would just spend my time helping the vortex deck.

Which I would imagine would take even more time.

Why should anyone do that?

It's Theory 11 again!

On a serious note, if people are looking into trolling you that hard, I would maybe be cautious about the Kickstarter total.  It's not outside the realms of possibility that someone would sign up with a fake account and pledge a lot of money.

Yep that's why I'm shooting for at least 25k. Kickstarter takes 10%, about 10% of pledges are declined due to maxed out cards, etc. and then you have the people who pledge but don't actually care for paying.

I'm pretty sure whoever makes a fake account would be ostracized completely from the community, seeing as I have access to names. :P

It really wouldn't be hard to put a fake name, Alex.

True but it's also extremely easy to tell a fake pledge apart from a real one. Plus, I know of exactly three people who would actually care enough to do so.  ;D

Not at all, would probably take about 15 minutes to knock together a script to do just that. Just ban the IP :)
