A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Re: Arrco Club Reno Back No. 102
« on: March 01, 2016, 11:25:00 PM »
Arrco used to use X stands poker of the back design , (X+1) stands pinochle of the back design.
For example, no.84 is tahoe poker, no.85 is tahoe pinochle. no.1 is streamline poker, no.2 is streamline pinochle.
Before I checked my decks I thought No.102 must be pinochle filigree back. 8)
Then I found pinochle filigree back is No.201. What the..........

Long flap tuck case has seam on both sides. You deck is this long flap type.
Short flap tuck case has seam on "air cushion finish" side.
Bicycle brand started to use short flap tack case from 1990-1991.
I believe they also used long flap tuck case in the same time until 2003.
According to the seal, I guess the deck you have is from 2000-2003.

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Re: Green and Blue Silver Slipper Casino set
« on: January 04, 2014, 02:22:17 PM »
I've been interested in silver slipper cards for the past month or so and managed to pick up an opened deck to see what all the fuss is about. They look great, but they handle well... yeah, not good. Recently I stumbled across this image:

I was hoping if anyone could help me with some history/background information about this set of Silver Slipper cards. I'm not getting any luck through Mr Google  :(

Cheers

Background info on the Casino? Or the cards?
Both both.... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Does the letter code on ace of spades mean it is a custom deck?
No, it means it isn't custom. Can you read it to us? It can give us the exact week and year the deck was printed. Thx!

I believe that isn't correct. To check if a deck was really made in Ohio, you check the jokers, and I own a couple of decks that have Ohio boxes, Ohio jokers, and ohio deck, but with a black seal.
Don, can you help me out here?

To my knowledge, there are NO blue-sealed standard-issue decks from Erlanger.  Show me a picture, if you would.  Custom decks are a totally different animal - they can have any seals the designer's willing to pay for.

I just bought 2 blue sealed KY decks a few days ago. I'm not sure what is inside. = =
Here is the picture:

Most intriguing!  I'd wager that someone at USPC caught wind of the bad rep the black seal decks were getting and they switched back to blue.  If I had to guess, I'd say those decks were made pretty recently, sometime in the last 16 months or so.  This would mean they're of better quality than even Ohio decks!

If you crack those decks open, I'd be curious to know what the AoS letter code is.
I just open one of them. It feels better than black sealed ky decks, bicycle stock(as good as crown decks), traditional cut, smooth edge, no off-center.

Like Paul, I received an email about HOPC and it included these 2 images.
The red one looks new to me... but the other deck is the Americana deck from Circle City Cards. Any ideas on the connection? CCC may be working with HOPC?
The red back looks great.

I played around with it. The quality is great, I think Tally-Ho paper stock is used for this deck.

I was told that the deck will be made available to his fans when he does his full evening show in Hong Kong this month.

However, I think the chance of these decks being available online for sale is very slim.

FYI, Lu Chen is not just famous magician, but more a super pop star kind of magician in greater China area, he has over 2 million fans following him on chinese version of Twitter.

For as little as 5000 decks, I bet his Hong Kong fans can take that much right on spot after his show.

If you don't live in Hong Kong then ... perhaps the only way to get them is wait for some of his fans resale them on eBay.
I used it for a while, it feels like black sealed bicycle 808. I think the spar deck is made for luchen's fans and collectors, not for magic or flourish.
BTW, I like your black/white gold sealed new fan back playing cards. :D
