Clever deck, not sure I'm in love with it.  The suits are a little hard to read, then again it's an art deck so it shouldn't matter.

There's a few things about this project that tell me he's never done a deck before and doesn't know deck design well.  Not the least of which is how his uncut sheet is so tiny - and missing a card - when shown framed.

Rob: go to Google, type "5000 gbp to usd" and hit enter on your keyboard.  You'll have an instant answer - as of today's exchange rate, it equals US$7,531.50, putting the exchange rate at a tiny fraction more than $1.50 per £1.00.  The rate's been fairly stable, hovering between about $1.40 and $1.65 for the past three-plus years.

I looked the project over - it's approximate pricing for a USPC project making 2,500 decks, but no mention that this is a USPC job.  Plus USPC Legal would probably have something to say about the deck's title being presented in a manner that looks too much like the Bicycle logo.

I do like how the spot cards have different "pips" for the spots (rotationally symmetrical, but different within each half).  At least the ten of hearts looks like that.  But considering the massive and in some cases superior competition this deck has, I'm not likely to be buying it.

I did not see any mention of who would be printing. I would assume being in the UK. They would be using a printer there. Anybody know the equivalent of USPC in UK?

I'm told the only big brand now is Waddington's and that the quality's not so good.  They probably get their good cards from somewhere else in the EU.

There's no reason why they wouldn't be able to use USPC.  Big Blind Media is a UK-based company and all of their decks were made with USPC (except for the plastic Death Heads, which were made by a USPC subsidiary in Spain).  The only drawback is that they'd be working with the International Department and not the Custom Department.  If they wanted to cut costs to themselves a little, using that subsidiary, Fournier, wouldn't be a bad idea - they're capable of some fine-quality output.  And it's not exactly like mainland Europe is shorthanded on quality playing card manufacturers.  But still, a lot of people work with USPC even in Europe for a reason - they're not the be-all and end-all, but in the Western world, they're the 800-pound gorilla of playing cards.

Albino Dragon on The Name of the Wind cards doesn't even show the full sheet.  Just the attached image.  At least this guy tried to show a full sheet (sans 1 card).  He's good at networking though.  He pledges $1 on projects and then convinces the people that he pledged for to pledge for him.  It boosts his popularity, I gave him $1.  But I don't want this deck, I'm just not into the design.

OK, now compare that image from Albino Dragon to this one from this project.  Tell me you don't see a huge difference between the two...

I've never seen an uncut fill such a tiny portion of a frame like that - it either makes the cards look Lilliputian or the furnishings Brobdingnagian...

We have not seen the face of the Albino Dragon's uncut sheet because the artwork is not finished yet. They have been working very closely with Patrick Rothfuss who's novel this deck is based on. They have also been using input from all there backers for a lot of detail and symbolism. The art work speaks for itself. No comparison.

I betting on giant furniture.  I'm a big guy and I have giant furniture in my house.  But yes Don, the full uncut sheet image is a joke.  And I'm not comparing decks, just that sometimes you buy a full sheet based on the cards you see.  I'm a little disappointed having just received a full uncut Steampunk deck sheet from a recent KS launch... they are much smaller in person. :P

How big did you think it would be?  You know the size of a playing card - poker-sized cards are 2.5" x 3.5".  Eight cards across, seven down and a little extra paper in-between.

I should have clarified that the art on the cards themselves was small making a lot of white space on the uncut sheet.  The poster size is what I expected.  But I'm going to have to add to it before I complete framing and hang it so it's less boring.  I like the art, just not as much as I thought I would in an uncut sheet.

How are you planning to add to it?  Little marginal doodles like Sergio Aragones?  :))

You could hang it with a magnifying lens - or under a giant magnifying lens.  The plastic ones with the visible circles are cheap enough and get the job done.  I hear you can get a huge sheet of that stuff and stick it to a regular window for a magnifying effect.  Just be careful about where you hang it - you wouldn't want sunlight igniting your sheet!

Which deck was it, by the way?

I'll probably mount it in a shadow box frame and include some three dimensional pieces of mixed Victorian and Steampunk components like a  couple of poker chips made from ground down push rotor mower gears, a pair of antique painted wooden dice, an antique boiler pressure gage and a few other things.  But I like the idea of mounting a double magnifying glass over the top.  Now that you've given me that idea, I may instead turn it into glass top end table.

What would stop you from doing both?  Make the box, laid flat.  Lay the poster in at the bottom and cover with a sheet of glass or plexi for protection.  place the Vicky/Steampunk bits and bobs around, perhaps even gluing them in place like a mounted insect specimen.  Top it off with a table-grade piece fo glass, attach legs, and voila, you have one of the most unique tables known to mankind...

Little confused with his reward tier.

I think he's even more confused...  Yeah, that's a little bizarre.  I get the feeling he's never used Kickstarter before.
