I don't know Don.  This a current Kickstarter now.  It seems the plastic cards are a new type of "Fluff" item.

Yeah, OK - go play some poker with them and get back to me...

This is part of the Lux Kickstarter and should be merged with that thread  in Plethora

Playing Card Plethora / Re: French Touch Playing Cards on Indiegogo

It's not a bad deck, but Fabien Defaucheux is claiming this as his own unique design.  It's really just a reprinting of a very old French deck in the Parisian style using a new color palette.  He designed the back, but it's primarily just a stylized "F".

That's not to say it's a terrible deck - just that the designer is overreaching in his claim.

One major problem is the pricing.  A single deck with shipping outside of France is €13.  For two decks, it's €20.  At the current exchange rate, €13 is US$17.58, €20 is US$27.05.  This applies to ANYONE outside of France, even other countries in the EU/Europe.

The other major problem: if you consider that the indices are in French, it has strong appeal only to Francophones and French-speaking countries.  Americans are terribly stubborn about what they think a playing card deck should have in it!  :))

Now you're dealing with the EXACT issue us internationals deal with!  In fact, $13.50 each for 2 decks shipped is just about what I pay for a KS deck these days, and I don't back quite a lot of campaigns because the costs are even higher for many projects.

Is it just me or is UC down again?

Yes, it should be up again shortly.

TH4mo.

The problem is that a comment on another project is by no way legally binding as it pertains to this project. What if the pledge level was $1000 for that sticker but he promised everyone a new car if they pledge at that level. He could raise $100k easy and then when it comes times he could decide to just send the stickers. Now I know this is an extreme example and I am not so much worried about him as the precedent this could set for many others to follow some of which might no be so honest

Sadly, it's already been shown that nothing on KS is legally binding.  I backed Mazing Deck and it's very cool.  I'm in for this uniquely designed deck as well.  At least he has delivered a project before, unlike some.

4 decks are $50 + 8 but 6 decks are $120 + $14?  How does that make sense.  This type of pricing gives me no confidence in the project.

I too like the art and pip placement but share concerns about ability to print in a way that will show them off well.

THIS.

Too bad Dan & Dave are too cheap to let non-Anericans get memberships! I guess they don't want our money!
Just think what they would have to charge for shipping!  Probably more than the membership cost for the decks.  In this one case (and only this one) I understand where D$D are coming from.

Love the deck but I doubt it will make 30k

It didn't even make 15k on the last one how would this possibly make 30?

I still feel he should of released one color first then after hitting a stretch goal release the second.

I'm in agreement with the last sentence, but there's actually a solid chance he'll make the goal.  By campaign's end, he was spitting distance from funded when he first offered this deck.

Yes, he was in spitting distance of 15K.  How does that mean he will make 30K?  I, for one, am no longer pledging and I'm sure he's lost others, purely because of the last cancellation.

Are all the paper products and inks produced locally?

I doubt he is the CA warrior that your post makes you sound like you think he is. He is probably just trying to support local business in his area, I doubt he is extreme enough in his beliefs that he won't wipe his ass if the paper isn't made from the redwoods or won't use windows because Microsoft's headquarters is in Washington. Some people can believe in something halfway and have it still be a noble belief; everyone that agrees with a cause doesn't have to die for it. I admire that the wants to keep it local, I don't think it matters that the machines the local printer uses were probably not manufactured in California.

You know, my bad, not the right area to be posting something like this.  I agree, he can "keep it local" if he likes, certainly up to him.  People should support what they like, however they like, as long as they don't harm anyone else.  I wish him luck, but I won't be backing (and not for the local sourced reasons... I actually just don't really care for the design).

Well if he wants local sustainability then he doesn't need us International backers. Amusingly I'm an ex-pat California living in the UK, all this crap about local products etc is BS.  It's great to buy local when you can but in this case the argument doesn't hold water for me.  Are all the printing presses being used manufactured locally?  Are all the paper products and inks produced locally?

I have a couple of these.  The quality of the stock is quite poor and they really aren't usable as a deck of cards (as noted, the Yellow are almost impossible to see).  They are interesting as part of my collection but I wouldn't suggest they are all that great otherwise.

Hi everyone.

I just want to give you more of an insight into whats been happening, as understandably some of you are anxious about getting the rewards. I really didn't want to air my issues out, but given the unpleasant comments I've been receiving from some, I feel its now necessary.

Sometimes life can be sh*t, and for the last few months, thats what I have been dealing with and unfortunately its impacted on every aspect of my life, including being able to work and this project. More recently I have been to some of the darkest places that I just never want to go back to ever again. you really couldn't make up the issues that I have been faced with over the course of the last few months. This is not a sob story, its the truth. So much so, I am now getting help in order to help me get well again and the medication is beginning to work. So please, just bare with me. Some of you may not believe or understand my situation, however if it comes to me having to upload scans of my medical certificate (which are dated) and medication then I will. As I said before, I don't like to air my issues to you all but I feel it may help you understand and stop the nasty comments because they really aren't helping and are just demoralising.

So where does this project stand right now? The past few days I have been feeling more positive and the creative juices are beginning to flow again. I'm currently progressing work on the hearts suit again. The Spades suit is completely finished and set up for production, so that one's ticked off!

I currently haven't confirmed a date with USPCC for the printing, as I want the artwork to be closer to completion before I am comfortable about committing to a print date.

Design is my passion and I intend it to be my future. I have no intention of jeopardising my career by not delivering on this project. I can't stop those few people who are determined to circulate negative comments about this project but for those of you who wanted answers, this is my candid response.

Due to my circumstances, I've not been able to work, so now all my energy is focused on progressing this project. I'm still not in a position to specify a date yet but in the spirit of Kickstarter, I will be fulfilling all rewards as promised, be it later than any of us would have liked.

Thank you for reading this,

Chris

I'm surprised these are still available at JP's. The last time I looked, they had 15 (each color) left in stock? They should be gone by the end of the week.

They're still not reaching a mainstream audience. Playing Cards in general OUTSIDE of the community are a "buy on need" type of product. However, I would have thought the communities response would have been much greater. There are still barriers of devoted USPCC users to break through in the community.

I would have used the V2 as demographic test also. Were these available OR released into the Asian market? Whats the general consensus of an American designed (Stutzman) product in the Asian market? I believe these are all concerns Lawrence should be looking into. As much as I would love to believe its an open market in terms of importing and exporting goods. U.S. imports more then it exports. Some of that has to do with cultural acceptance of American small business. Will this product be seen as a Taiwanese (Asian) product or an American product (Stutzman)?

You might be missing the boat.  There was almost no promotion of the deck and it was only available through two sources.  I think being available for 5 days after release is just fine.

Hey Guys,

Don's asked me to come by and clear the waters in regards to what's happening at the moment.

Basically what's happened is yes, we have sent an offer out to a select number of customers, offering them incentives to join the Black Club (as the screenshot above shows). This was after we offered existing black club members the chance to pick up the uncut gold arcanes. The Black Club email explaining that we would be sending out this offer is here;
http://hwst.ellusionist.com/cds/BlackClub/GoldSheet/GoldSheet.html

We did indeed also send out a number of emails to a small group of customers who were not yet part of the Black Club with a special offer to join (as explained to BlackClub members in the email they received). This email, in its entirety, can be seen here;
http://hwst.ellusionist.com/cds/BlackClub/Invite/GoldInvitation.html

So yes - both offers are absolutely true.  Hope that clears things up!

All the best,

-Jake

P.S - If you did not receive the Black Club Special Invite from us and you would like to take advantage of this offer, shoot me an email to jake@ellusionist.com and let me know.

As usual, Jake, thanks for letting us know what's really going on.  This is one of the things I like about Ellusionist - ask a question, get an answer, no messing around in-between.

So, for those of you who DIDN'T join the Black Club, this is your golden opportunity - if you didn't get an emailed offer yet, get a hold of Jake through his work email address.

And now are you going to apologize for being a jerk to other forum members and how admit wrong you were?

So tired of your crap.

Might I suggest that the next time you have a question for Lance - or any other deck designer, company, governmental organization, fraternal group, military unit, what have you - you might get faster and more efficient results by contacting them DIRECTLY, using their website or email address.

Forgive me if I sound cranky, but I see a lot of people coming here to make requests for customer service from other companies when there's not one company maintaining an official presence on this forum...  I mean, if you want customer service from Microsoft, you don't shout over Bill Gates' hedge, do you?

Pretty sure he already said this here;

Quote
I then tried to contact you again to find out what's going on with my package - Facebook, email, PMs, but once again, received no reply.

Sorry, but I get quite tired of people constantly being "corrected" by you on this board.  I think it chases people away and it's about to chase me away.  A friendly and helpful attitude is far more important than one that constantly belittles people.

21
is this only for people in US?

I'm not certain - you'd have to contact USPC and inquire with them.

I've sent an e-mail asking that and the answer was: "Sorry... it's only being made available to U.S. 808 Club Members at this time."
I sure hope they change their idea, because it's not nice to have different classes of members. A member is a member. But it´s only my opinion.

Wait, what?  They actually emailed me and said I'd be getting this and now it looks like I won't.  That is really not cool, I'll have to find the email and send them some choice words.

Victor - we couldn't remember whether Canada was North or South, so took a punt. Your package is apparently sitting in a small town in Mexico. Looks like the coin-flip failed. North. Who knew? Sorry, you get nothing.

Admittedly you might be joking but... is it true that International Black Club members are not also getting this free deck?  Is that what you are hinting at?

I would love to, but their prices for International shipping were ridiculous even before the recent price hike, so I'm still waiting for JP to stock them in the UK to get them for a decent price.  So in *my* opinion it was not a good example.

April by the looks of it! :)

Am I missing something? Was The Virts deck on KS?

Not to my knowledge, I think he was referring to the way they did their pre-order and marketing of their deck.  I do think their campaign was good and they didn't have to give up 10% to Amazon/KS but they probably lost a bit of visibility by not being on KS.

I have never backed up any kind of deck of cards in kickstarter.

And now im going to sound like a douchebag but i guess this needs to be said...

For me those decks are not "canon" in the storyline of collectibles.

I have no idea what this even means.  Canon as in the meaning of official?  Seems like they just aren't part of your collection is all.

Quote
Yes, some of the decks are great looking but, the majority of them are bad.

There are quite a lot of "bad" decks that aren't done through KS either.  Do those count?

Quote
For me a KS deck should be something so amazing, it should be unfair not to back it up... but right now KS operates in a stupid manner, there are a bunch of "original" designs waiting for money, and a lot of them are just "another steampunk deck" or another "insert mythical creature here" deck.
Very few of those are getting funded these days.  I would predict that going forward fewer decks will get funded on KS, due to projects not delivering on time as well as the fact that the new costs of International shipping are making many of these projects too expensive.

Quote
From a real designer stand point (because a lot of the decks are not even designed by somebody that knows how to design something) I think it subtracts value to "our" legitimate decks.
Again, look at other decks out there.  What about Merz decks?  Karnival decks?  These are not KS decks yet probably some of the worst and/or repetitive designs out there.  Yet the industry has survived and indeed, in part because of KS, prospered.

Quote
Wanna know how to do a real KS deck? go and check out the Virts deck and how they did everything.
I would love to, but their prices for International shipping were ridiculous even before the recent price hike, so I'm still waiting for JP to stock them in the UK to get them for a decent price.  So in *my* opinion it was not a good example.

Yes, I know there is a new deck report but it doesn't really focus on what happens after funding as much and sometimes tracking these projects can be a big pain.

I invite you to post these updates on the NDR topic.  They'd be most welcome.  If you like, I can merge this topic with that one.  I can also help you with improvements in the formatting, if you'd like.

It's not often that people post in the NDR topic besides me, but posts are permitted and can add to the value of the report.  Especially when they're filled with pertinent information like this one.

Happy if you want to include this info merged with the NDR.  I cleaned up the original post and should look better now.  Also updated with the comments from this thread and other new updates on KS.
