Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Magician's Table / Close up / Stage Magic
« on: February 18, 2013, 06:22:40 PM »
Hey, I have a gig in a month doing some stage magic, but I wanted to get a table that I could also use for card magic. Something that was affordable, but didn't look cheap.

My wife found this pneumatic table from Ameri-home
http://www.amazon.com/AmeriHome-ATABLE-25-Inch-Adjustable-Table/dp/B000MQ7I6G/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Was under a hundred bucks (unlike most magic tables) it looks well made and stylish

Pay no mind to my geeky Star Wars shirt

Technology sure has come a long way since I first started out in Magic. My bookshelf has several bound books and leaflets that I purchased from the Magic store when I was just starting out. Later, I ended up buying DVD's and downloading PDF files.

But now what?

What if I want to watch one of my DVDs and spend a few hours practicing, but my wife wants to watch her cooking shows? And I certainly don't want to watch my DVD's with roommates walking through the house.

Of course, you could say, "Watch them on your computer." But in truth. then I can only practice where I can haul my laptop around, and currently my magic collection is so large and in so many different places and formats, it's almost unreasonable.

Well, I have been working on this puzzle for a while now and I just might have the solution.

The first was purchasing Aimersoft Video Converter. It was the most versatile file conversion program I could find. This software does 2 things.
1. It rips my DVD's into a digital file
2. it converts my current downloaded material into a file extension that I can use/transfer.

The issue is, each Magic House offers downloads of various file types. I think I even had some early ellusionist downloads that were real player files! How awful

So my goal is to rip/convert my material into a playable medium so that I can watch it on my kindle fire. The Kindle fire is a very inexpensive tool that allows me to watch full color video files; and all I need to do is make sure they are in an mp4 format.

Now, as I pick which DVD's or files I wold like to take with me on the go, (I could even take this camping) I just find the file I want, rip it to mp4, transfer it to my kindle and have a portable magic resource / library wherever and whenever I need.

Hope that helps,

First off, yes I did a search for "closeup pad" and didn't see anything. I am hoping this is in the right section, but feel free to move it, if I got it wrong.

I can search for close up pads on penguin, ebay and anywhere else as well as the next guy, but I was hoping someone here might know of a good quality product for a fairly simple price. I totally used to have one, and I have no clue where it ended up. This is totally card related by the way. Maybe you don't even use one, but just remove your shirt and use that instead, hoping the ladies will be looking at your massive pecs and ripped abs instead of your sloppy pass? These are the things that we'd like to know.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Peter Rollins (http://peterrollins.net/) is an Irish writer, lecturer, theologian, and philosopher who is associated with the emerging church movement and postmodern Christianity. Peter has been feverishly assembling a Christian faith confrence titled "The Idolatry of God" (http://idolatryofgod.eventbrite.com/) and you'd expect the typical line up of speakers and guest stars.

Well, today he announced one of his workshops will be hosted by Caolan McBride (http://www.caolanmcbride.com). Peter says two of the BIG themes this year at his confernece will be Magic and Decay so it seemed only natural to have a magician as one of his speakers.

Pretty cool

Playing Card Plethora / White Lions vs Split Spades
« on: February 06, 2013, 12:02:23 PM »
I have 2 of the original split spades "David Blaine" decks. (why did I put that in quotes?) And I have the 3 split spade "trick" decks that he released. Plus I have the deck that followed - the "MMVIII" split spade that had a "white lion" in the graphic - but apparently those ARE NOT the white lion deck (it's so confusing)

THEN - DB and D. Stutzman released a "true" White Lion deck - and many of you recommend it as a premiere deck and one worth picking up. And since I recognize the wisdom of this board and the valuable information you all have, I'd like to know - "in your opinion" what makes the newly released White Lion deck - better than the previous split spades predecessors?

Thank you in advance,

1119
I buy things purely on hype and then never follow through with it - I have Dan and Dave's system, some of their print stuff, and I have their "tricks and everything else" set and even Madison's "Dangerous."

My question (and I am sorry if this has been asked a ka-jillion times) but... where do you start?

How would you put the cardistry DVD's or instruction in order? I have never done it, but would like to. So where does one start? And after ones starts... then where does one....go?

Thank you to everyone and feel free to move my thread if it's in the wrong place. I promise to start paying you all back with deck reviews.

ha ha
