  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

If it's the deck I think it is, he may have assembled the deck himself using cards from several different decks - hence the "stolen cards" in the title.

Using Google, I managed to learn something important - there's more than one version of Lennart's deck.  An earlier version used cards from nothing but casino decks, most if not all of which having been canceled with cut or rounded corners.  The current version uses absolutely no casino cards and contains not just known USPC decks but also more obscure ones with beer ads and children's cartoons on them.  I witnessed a video of a performance where the deck had two pairs of Jerry's Nugget cards, two in each color - they were the "magic" cards of the trick, the prediction and the spectator's.

It seems that rather than printing individual cards from different decks, the decks are constructed by "stolen cards" - they buy decks to mix with other cards to construct the stolen decks.  This means that different performances may have different card backs in use.  This might make identification difficult.

Perhaps you can pause the video at the point where the card of interest is visible?  Perhaps it even appears in ?

Saw the card but don't recognize it.  With him being from Sweden, it's entirely possible that some of the cards in that deck are from Sweden.

You can limit your choices to decks in production not later than the end of 2010.  Penguin Magic's first review of Masterfiles was written on 21 May 2011, so the video would have been recorded earlier than that - perhaps months earlier - and the cards would have pre-existed the video.

Lennart's own "Stolen Cards" deck that he usually uses is indeed put together by himself with cards from all these decks that he has received or bought throughout the years, so the card you're looking for is unfortunately not included in the deck that EMC put together along with the Masterfile DVD set (released in early March '11, shot in October '10 if I remember it correctly).

The card is with 99% certainty not from a Swedish deck as the poker size is highly uncommon here (or was until the latest big craze of Hold'em hit the world), and the absolute majority of decks sold are either bridge sized (Öbergs mostly), or a few European poker sized decks. Knowing Lennart's travel habits he could have found that deck anywhere in the world, so I'm afraid I can't help you narrow it down more than "likely not in Sweden".

If I get a chance to ask him I'll try to do so, but as I live around 350 miles from him nowadays I'm not likely to run in to him anytime soon.

Yes, I might be the guy you remember from that thing at that place way back when.

And there you have it.

I also remember seeing quite a few card backs from assorted cigarette and alcohol/beer promotional decks.  Those could be difficult to obtain.  Promo decks are here today, history tomorrow.  Your specific card, if it's the one I'm thinking of, was likely not a promo, but still - the whole deck looked like a bunch of one-offs.

Good luck finding it.  What about that back caught your attention?
