Design & Development / Printing/crowdfunding a deck in the UK
« on: August 11, 2013, 06:48:49 AM »
HI folks

I wonder if anyone has printed a deck in the UK, and can therefore recommend a printing company to use.

I am trying to develop a deck for the charity that I work for and want to print about 1000 decks.  We are based in Scotland.

We are also considering using crowdfunding to part fund this project and I wonder if any UK based forum members are willing to share their views in terms of the company they used and their experiences of using them.

Recommendations or indeed advice about companies to avoid appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Playing Card Plethora / A bad taste in the mouth
« on: February 22, 2013, 09:11:43 AM »
Hi Folks

Being new to cardistry and all things related I have bought a range of decks recently to experiment with.

I have noticed in this time that some decks leave me with a horrible taste in my mouth - and no.....  I am not eating the cards or indeed licking my fingers.

The chemicals used by these cards must have some toxicity to me or something, as the taste in my mouth is foul and makes me want to
a) brush my teeth
b) stop playing with the cards.

Specific packs I have noticed affecting me this way are Aristocrat Banknotes 727 (Linen Finish), and the Bee 1902 Club Special (Cambric). (Cambric is fine white linen - so might be some connection between these decks).

I wonder if anyone else out there has experienced something similar?

Maybe all the cards are finished/coated with the same thing in which case I can only be imagining this phenomena , or maybe the linen/cambric effect is different, and I am just very sensitive to this?

I wonder if anyone any enlightening thoughts?

Thanks for reading

Playing Card Plethora / D & D - S & M v?
« on: February 21, 2013, 06:06:07 AM »
Hi Folks

I wonder if someone can help me identify which S & M version this deck is?

I have looked on google images to help me figure out which version they are but although I might find a photo similar it failed to provide any information.

I got it as part of a 3 deck bundle D and D Mystery Deck order that I made.  The other two decks were Arrco Reds (Ohio).  Initially I was a bit disappointed with the Arco's (because they read 'Plastic Coated') but having used them a bit I like them more and more. Initially they clumped, but now they dont.

Any help ID'ing this deck appreciated - I have attached some photos.  As you can see I have not opened this deck yet.  Is it worth not opening?

With thanks

Mr Rik

Introduce Yourself / Allo Cardists
« on: February 21, 2013, 04:53:13 AM »
Allo Folks

Just a quick introduction to me - got into playing cards about a year ago when I was looking for something to collect.  I visit lots of charity shops/junk shops here in Edinburgh and thought that I should keep an extra special eye out for playing cards.  However, having got into them, I almost never buy them second hand now, as in this condition they don't do some of the lovely things new ones can, such as fan.

In terms of what I do with cards, I am trying to teach myself some flourishes just now, which I am finding difficult - it seems to take me about a whole day to get a move down and even when I do I have the grace and poise of a fart!!!

As someone who lives on his own and is in their mid forties I do find the practice keeps away the loneliness and I can do it while watching films or TV, if in a half distracted way.  Saying that I enjoy the practice, and hope that perhaps one day I will develop some style and indeed some confidence to display in public.

Anyway, thanks for reading and I look forward to conversing with you all.

Cheers

Mr Rik
