Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Card Magician Must-Haves
« on: November 07, 2011, 08:53:57 PM »
So I know with Christmas coming up and all, many of you must be looking at cards and magic supplies. I thought it would be good to start a thread on what magicians should definitely have. Some things I know of are Porper clips, close-up magic mats, and of course, CARDS!!! I want to know what you guys think I should put on my amazon wishlist. Specifications and links would be awesome! I want to know what the magician's essentials should be and what would make a magician look good (besides a black cape).

At first, I thought I liked the white one better, but as I kept comparing them, I found that I actually like the black ones better. While the white ones are cool and all, I like the black ones because they have more depth. I feel like I'm looking inside of a playing card at it's gears to see how it works.

Playing Card Plethora / Deck Seal and Card Clips
« on: October 29, 2011, 03:12:45 PM »
Hi guys! I read the previous thread about card clips and it made me want to get my own. The only problem is, I want one that won't damage my box and that will fit all decks. I want to know which card clip you guys think is the best. I was thinking about just going for the black Joe Porper clip on Amazon. If any of you know of a better clip, tell me about it and maybe post a link? Thanks guys! Also, when I get a new deck, I always remove the seal instead of just breaking it. It's just that the bicycle deck seals all usually say the same thing and they aren't very important to me. Of course, if the seal is cool or special, I'll probably leave it on. I just feel like the seal gets in my way and lowers the elegence of the card box. So, to leave on, or not to leave on?

Playing Card Plethora / Re: New Deck - Samurai Deck

Although I am a ninja, these cards just don't appeal to me. They look okay, but they don't impress me. It's just another quickly-designed deck of cards. I would prefer something with a bit more..... well, deck customization to it. They just sort of make me think of a regular bicycle deck. Just not as impressive as some of the decks I've seen.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: What would you do without playing cards?

I would probably be bored much more than usual. I love reading, but I can't always find a great book. I like videogames, but sometimes I get stuck and need to stop playing. I like being on my computer, but people aren't always on to chat. Homework... that's just out of the question. If I didn't have cards, then there would probably be a huge, gaping space in my soul that I wouldn't know about.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: deck value

Since I don't have a ton of money to spend on cards, I only buy one of each deck unless I know that I'm going to be using the deck more often because it's really good. For example, I only bought one shadow masters deck because although it's really great, its not a deck I would want to bring to school to perform with. On the other hand, I bought two decks of the bicycle dragonbacks (red) because I knew they were good after getting my first one and I wanted a backup in case my original one (the one I use at school) ever gets damaged or wears out. See, you just have to buy two of a deck if you know that you'll be using it more often. The exception? The Vortex Deck. I bought two and then my sister bought two for me. I shall be receiving four. Yay.

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Card Reveals
« on: October 17, 2011, 07:49:13 PM »
i was wondering what the actual use of a card reveal is. I can sort of come up with maybe one or two things you can do with them, but I imagine that the effect on the spectator wares off really quickly and you can only use it a fairly small amount of times. Are they just cool, or do they serve some sort of special purpose I've overlooked?

Well, I'm right handed, but I learned from a left-handed magician. I just do whatever feels comfortable and works for me.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: What is the worst USPC deck you own.
« on: October 17, 2011, 07:41:17 PM »
I'd have to say that the worst USPCC deck I've ever had was, unfortunately, my Bicycle Guardians deck. I love the design, the idea, and the look, but mine didn't have that glide effect for very long. They started clumping a week after I got them, even though I had barely been handling them and always cleaned up before using them. It disappointed me because I had read great reviews for this deck and I had high expectations for it. Also, mine had that curve thing going on, so I could never fan them or spread them well. Really disappointing.
