Title: Typical to have so many new deck coming out?
Post by: Paul Carpenter on October 30, 2011, 10:56:23 PM
Hi all.  I am pretty new to all this business of getting cool decks, but in the last month that I've been paying attention it seems like there is a huge number of decks coming out all at the same time. I was wondering if, historically, there has always been this volume of cool and interesting decks all coming out constantly or if this span of time is out of the ordinary.

I'm somewhat picky, so even with tossing a lot of stuff out, just in these last few months of the year we have Vortex, monarchs, fantastique, mana, seasons, samurai, Templar, etc all hitting at once.

So either I got into this right at the correct time and it will taper off, or I'm going to be spending a lot more money than I thought and explaining all these packages to my wife. :)

Omg I was just thinking of starting this thread, I am also new to card collecting and was wondering if its normal for like 10 new decks to come out each year? If so you guys must be millionaires coz I'm gonna be broke soon.

It is true there has been an influx in deck releases lately. It just seems to have gotten a bit more popular to collect/buy custom decks and designers have been able to sell out faster than usual. That being said, in my opinion, the best way to go about collecting is to be quite picky about what you are buying. I do not intend to own every deck that is released and I make decisions to which ones I think will have the most collectibility and which ones I personally like the art of. I also enjoy the challenge of trying to find good deals on vintage decks and I always try to grab at least one deck for myself if I know it will be a limited edition.

I can't say exactly when or even if the rapid growth of purchasing playing cards will subside, but my advice is just to be picky about what decks you want, stay on the forums and see what others have to say about the different decks and don't worry too much when you can't afford to buy the newest deck on the market.

Also, you don't need to buy a brick of each deck that comes out, If I feel I can make my money back easily on a new deck than I will most likely buy some extra, but if its just a deck I would like for my collection I only pick up one....maybe two

Hope that helps a bit, feel free to ask any more questions and I will try my best to answer them.

I'm new to collect decks too.
But I think this year decks are released more frequent than the previous year.
Also I believe that this is not gonna stop. It will be more and more decks coming out.

so 2 things, 1st I agree with curt you have to think about it, why will you be getting these decks? for me its I like to have cool custom decks that i can use. Like tonight I got to use my black ghost deck at a halloween party, i had all black on and it fit my theme. Like curt I will not buy every deck. I will only getting decks that I feel I will enjoy. I also set priorities, bills and food come 1st then some money to save, after that i see what i can put into cards and magic. and 2nd so basically to get all these decks i need bill gates to sponsor me. :)

Wow, that's quite a list! I hadn't heard of a lot of those, but as has been mentioned, being picky is the way to go. I only buy decks that appeal to me enough that I'll use them, and only buy 1 anyways. I'm not interested in reselling or making money, but even with being real picky it seems that there are a huge number of nice looking decks all hitting at once.

Thanks for that list tho, I'll have to poke through it and see if anything appealing comes up. Maybe something like that could be part of the forum as a sticky, so new folks can get an idea of what is out there as time goes on.

Any information on the Compass & Miracles decks? Compass from Kem I assume?

Edit - Nevermind I found the info on another thread. Damn those decks are so expensive, definitely not for anyone on these forums, but the mismag cards, those I preordered.

Seems like a pretty comprehensive list but the Karnival Hornets aren't out for a couple of weeks yet.  I've been keeping an eye on them because I love borderless decks.  Might get 1 on a trial run and then a brick if they're particularly good.  Was going to get a brick of Steamboats but I can't find them online anymore and they're out of print now.  Any more than £50 for a brick and I'd have to think very hard about getting them.

The Karnival Hornets are available to purchase.  They will be shipped out on Nov 14th.

first off, what is it with everyone buying bricks and second, of all the decks that are coming out, there are more than half that no one will be able to resell or want to buy in the first place (Big Guns/ Pirates?)

For right now all I can say is that they will be from USPC themselves and not a secondary company using the Bicycle name.
