put in an early bird pledge just for the heck of it.  Once we see more, it could be interesting :)

You might have to wait a bit.

He says, "With Every 1,000 pledged, we will release extra pictures of playing card designs. (This adds excitement....)"

I'm excited are you excited?

Seriously?  So pledge now and see the cards later?

I'm pretty sure this is specifically against KS terms somewhere...

I wish there was - but there isn't.  There's a fellow named Jeremiah DesLondes out of California who made a series of decks.  Two of them were offered sight-unseen, not a single image shown.  Because he managed to find a cheap-ass printer, he had an insanely low goal of $1,000 and reached it without breaking a sweat.  I can't call the end result cards ugly, per se, but they're not to my taste.

This guy's campaign is bass-ackwards from the beginning.

Limited images of the deck, only showing more with each $1,000 raised.  So, if he raises just a few hundred, no one gets to see anything?  He mentioned a fiery red foil on a matte black tuck box - but doesn't actually show it to anyone.

Of the deck itself, we get to see:
a blurry image of the card back
a picture of holographic seals - that aren't even available until the $12,000 stretch goal.
and that's all, folks!

I also love how he's offering reward tiers with the limited edition deck that won't be available until the $15,000 stretch goal.

I have a recommendation regarding this project to everyone willing to listen.  STAY AWAY.  I wouldn't have this guy scratch my 'nads if I was tied to a chair and had a case of crabs!  There no mention of the printer because he's probably shooting for the lowest possible price.

"Rise Of The Phoenix has been a work in progress for many years. As an avid card collector, I wanted to create something that everyone can see in their own collections. We wanted an embossed box with fiery red foil stamps, a sleek feel that handles amazing and a card stock made for card flourishers and magicians. We set dark undertones and a back design to die for. We wanted a matte (flat) black box that makes a statement, so that's what you are going to get!  With Every 1,000 pledged, we will release extra pictures of playing card designs. (This adds excitement....)"

Many years?  Are those dog years?  'Cause so far, I ain't seein' squat worth paying for.

He wanted to create something, wanted an embossed box with red foil stamps, wanted a sleek feel, a high-grade card stock, etc.  That's nice - I wanted a Bentley, fat stacks of cash, a tropical island with pristine beaches and my own private jet.  He wants all this stuff - but is he going to DELIVER on any of it?

Zero history as a creator, zero history as a backer - but he's an avid card collector?!  What, GREETING cards?  My bullshit detector's in the red on this one, gang.  As I see it, it's distinctly possible that you'll be lucky to see one thin dime or a pack of cards when all is said and done.

There are only a handful of designers I'll buy a deck from sight unseen. This isn't one of them. Needless to say at the moment, This is an easy pass for me.

I don't understand the mentality behind a campaign like this. In my opinion, it doesn't set one up for success. I wonder if he'll change from Rise of Phoenix to "King of Hearts". Would suit the campaign a little better, since not showing cards tends to be kickstarter suicide.

I agree, so many Red Flags on this campaign. It's uncanny.

Another red flag.  He says the "standard edition" will have only a 1,000-deck run.  Now look CLOSELY at the holographic seals - they're all laser-etched "LIMITED EDITION" and "1 OF 5,000."  Yup, FIVE thousand - and every single deck is #1!

"1,000 goal has been reached. New photo will be uploaded soon, stay tuned."

You'd think the campaign would have photos at the ready for when they reach their "mini-goals" (or would "sub-goals" be more appropriate)?

I noticed the 5000 on the seals straight away and thought "oh thats dodgy".

I did not notice they were all #1.  That is fraud. Plain and simple.

It's been nearly a full twenty-four hours since they hit the "sub-goal" of $1,000 and there's not a single new image on the page.  I'm thinking that perhaps their definition of "soon" isn't the same as that of the rest of the world...

Did you read the bio of "Rise of the Phoenix" from Spokane, WA?

"Magician and card enthusiast. I've been designing playing cards for many years. I will not sleep until your pledges arrive safe and sound! I'm also not ashamed to let you know that I also collect Ninja Turtle action figures."

Designing cards - for MANY YEARS?  And how many of them got published?  I call bullshit on this, unless he was making playing cards for the NSA and the CIA - in that case, I'd call double bullshit.

I really have nothing to say about the action figure collection.  At least we know he has no shame!

Didnt you guys read his pledge tiers as well?

Limited to 1,000 and numbered with a hologram box seal to prove it. You will get one Rise Of The Phoenix limited deck numbered 1 of 1000.
Limited (778 of 800 remaining)
Get a Rise Of The Phoenix T-Shirt, standard Rise of The Phoenix deck and a numbered 1 of 1,000 limited deck.
Limited (198 of 200 remaining)

He isn't lying in that sense. It probably just means out of the 5000 decks, 1000 people will get the deck numbered 1. Probably to fulfill some idiot's fantasy of "must have number 1 edition"

And he did post this -
1,000 dollar mark has been reached new photo coming soon.
As we eagerly await............................

Still, i doubt this will get funded or many will pull out unless he shows some awesome pics. But just by the way he handled this project, i wouldn't even pledge if he showed awesome pics.

The big reveal. It was more than one card, so there's that. Unfortunately there is nothing to tie those into the name of the deck. This leaves me perplexed and since I'm not one to dwell on being baffled simple for the sake of baffling me. I don't think I'll check in on this campaign or would be deck any longer.

Back to having a good time. :D

And surely if the jokers were to be fire there would be a phoenix on one of them?  The Phoenix is such a grand, mythical creature and the concept of rising from the ashes is a massive, idea.

Nope.  Here is a photograph of some fire.  Cya!

Oh ....   No...... I  watched it.... Until .. the.. end....    :-[

Is it just me, or is this an odd way to answer this specific question?

I also thought this was a very "political" answer.  I almost actually went to look the answer up.  But then realized this creator may not even know himself....

The more I see, the more I don't want to see any more.

This is like watching something really bad that's about to happen, but hasn't happened yet, something that's gone just enough past the precipice that fate can't be altered - it's going to happen, and you can't do a blasted thing about it.  Like watching a car as it enters a too-fast skid in the direction of a fuel tanker.  Like seeing a person standing on a ledge who's just leaned far enough over it that gravity and wind current have just barely overcome balance.  Like observing that casually-tossed, still-burning cigarette carelessly pitched away, heading straight for the rags soaked in paint thinner.

In short, it's an accident that's about to happen, past the point of no return.

Nope, I had it right.  The accident hasn't occurred yet, but it's going to and nothing can stop it short of a miracle.  The accident isn't past the point of no return, because the accident hasn't yet occurred.  But it's about to happen - and that pregnant moment is what's past the point of no return.  It can't be undone, there's no aborting it, it's inevitable.  But it's not quite here yet.  Imagine it's just a second before midnight on New Year's Eve - the countdown is taking place, you can't stop the moment from occurring, but it's not here yet.

It's the kind of moment that would appear in a movie in slow motion, dragged out over several seconds, perhaps longer - in reality it's not more than an instant, less time then you'd need to exhale, but in that movie, it's building the suspense.  Something in you may be hoping that some kind of intervention takes place, but no, there's no way to stop what will soon become a chain reaction of disaster.

Looks like he put his own project out of its misery as it has been cancelled.

Side note, I used to live in Spokane, Washington about a mile from the Idaho border.  What an incredible part of the country!  Stop by there and spend a couple nights if you happen to be driving through there on 90
