Double-Face Deck "Deluxe Edition"

Quote from: Bill Lee
The Double-Face Deck "Deluxe Edition", printed on standard Bicycle stock by the US Playing Card Company is the real solution.  It will include the double face cards that are most in demand by magicians.

The exact pairings are not yet finalized but I can see it having more paired court cards, more minor transformations (eg. 3S/2S,  AD/AH),  SBS cards (same both sides),  and joker transformations.  I will be studying all suggestions and taking into consideration all recommendations to create the perfect DF deck!

Risks and challenges

I've never worked with the USPCC before, and I am basing my estimated costs on their minimum custom production run of 2500 decks and assuming that since they already have the designs, the set-up costs will be lower.
???
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

So lemme get this straight...  This guy wants to make a project to create a deck of cards that I can probably find in almost any decently-stocked magic shop?  I can't imagine there's that huge of a demand for this in the first place.

He's also one of those "first project, zero backed" project creators.

That was my thought. I would assume that there is a gaff deck that has a few double faces somewhere. I'm not a magician, but do you really need 52 double faced cards? Maybe if you are doing a trick where the card is destroyed, and this deck had multiples to be able to gaff standard decks.
The other side of it is, if there is not a gaff like this in the market. It could be cool, but he needs to put out a instruction DVD of tricks for these cards.

This has been done before, even on Kickstarter.  The one KS project I've seen prior to this was for a double-faced deck where there was a specific correlation between faces and "backs" - they were matched together in a specific pattern.  Most such decks aren't done in such a way.

He's producing this with a specific purpose - creating certain face/face combinations that he considers desirable for reasons only he knows.  But as I see it, there's no need - there are already some specialized gaff decks out there with specific combinations of the type he's talking about.  Maybe not all of them are in there, but what one person considers desirable and what another considers as such are likely to be different.

What makes the least sense to me are the "SBS" cards - same both sides.  I'm a little hard pressed to see the need for it.

Regardless, if he had specific cards he was looking for - there are companies that sell individual cards of specific combinations, professionally made.  That can even be a better alternative - pick and choose the ones you want, don't pay for an entirely costly deck of which you might use only a few cards.
