The Conversation Parlor / Good deeds feel good
« on: October 06, 2013, 02:50:52 PM »
Today I performed a good deed and it felt really good.
After work, I hopped on the train home with my friend. Sh was asking about my magic and so I showed her a couple of tricks. There was a kid in the seat next to us who was loving every minute, so I performed to him. His father was telling me how he loves magic and really wants to get into it. So I gave him my green artifice deck n he was so overwhelmed by it. I taught him some of the basics while on the train n he said he'll practice every day. Just felt good passing on knowledge to a budding magician :)

Personally, I think his work is mind blowing. Anyway, bought a few things, had a good time, was avoid day. Did anyone else attend?

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Trick or Treat? Favourite Halloween trick
« on: September 27, 2013, 01:59:36 PM »
With Halloween a few weeks away, I wanted to know what kind of trick(s) you perform. Or if you're not into performing, what's your favourite Halloween related routine?

This will be the first year I'll be performing during Halloween for the children's hospital. Was thinking of doing Haunted Deck 2.0 as my Halloween trick. Other tricks I'll be performing aren't really halloween themed.
In case you were wondering what they will be, they are the magic colouring book, cardtoon deck trick, ball & vase trick, and some packet effects using cards from the fast/fake n genious deck.

I couldn't find a topic on this on here.

Anyway, does anyone know much about this deck? Saw it here - http://www.freepostmagic.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=10151.
(Sorry, not advertising, just couldn't find it anywhere else that isn't an online shop)
Inspired by the Chinese frescos.
Doesn't explain much more. It's a uspcc deck though.

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Shooting a card out of the deck
« on: September 19, 2013, 11:18:55 AM »
So, I was wondering what your favourite kind of technique is to shoot a card out of the deck. I have two that I use

http://youtu.be/wyjIjdTidgA which is a hot shot card tutorial. I use this whenever I do the gun trick

And the top shot which dynamo tends to do a lot.

What techniques do you guys use? Do you have any different ways of shooting the card out of deck?

Playing Card Plethora / Bars of Phoenix fantasy playing cards (KS)
« on: September 18, 2013, 07:40:50 PM »
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1688164774/bars-of-phoenix-fantasy-playing-cards-52-card-buck

The designer is Adam Dopps the founder of Drink Deal Daily.
Being printed by the USPCC.
Its funding target is $12k with 18 days to go. As of writing this, the amount is at $1,352.

The following information is taken from the KS page:-

"The Bars of Phoenix Fantasy Playing Cards is a deck 52 of your Favorite Bars Taverns Pubs and Breweries in Phoenix represented on Custom Made set of collectible Playing Cards. It is a 52 card guide to Drinking in Phoenix."

"The Bars of Phoenix is an entirely custom deck of limited edition playing cards featuring the cities most popular watering holes. The normal suits, Hearts, Spades, Clubs and Diamonds are being replaced by a more bar friendly set of icons (suits), Beer, Wine, Cocktail and Rocks."

The artwork is ok, looks a lot like a souvenir deck though. Just a bit more arty.

Playing Card Plethora / The Great Whites from DMC & Sovereign Playing Cards
« on: September 12, 2013, 06:06:23 PM »
A new deck from the guys that brought us the DMC sharks. The sequel being called "the incredible new great whites"

Here's a description taken from sovereign website:-

"The Great White is the ocean’s apex predator, the top link in the food chain – powerful and brutal but precise and streamlined. A simple design shot through with classic cool, the Great Whites deck was designed to the specifications of Drummond Money-Coutts, to help cement his reputation as THE card shark, following the success of his National Geographic TV special of the same name.

The logo is a visual reminder of old school casino style, and the whole thing has been built around the shark, right down to the shark-skin denticles on the back. The deck has custom kings, all nautical except for DMC as the diamond. Poseidon has some company with the Queen of Hearts, an alluring mermaid. The ace of spades rhymes with the casino cool logo and the Jokers are spear hunting scuba divers. We worked hard getting these cards right – subtle and simple with just enough of a twist.

For our magic friends there are a few little surprises – a super subtle one way back, plus a beautiful card revelation with some help from the Jokers… there’s a lot going on beneath the surface. Reel in a deck today.

The Great Whites standard deck, designed and printed in England. The deck has an airflow finish, custom Kings and a look that is understated classic cool through and through. Pick up a deck today.

EXPECTED TO SHIP:
21st Sep. 2013"

Taken from the DMC website:-

"GREAT WHITES playing cards are the product of six months’ preparation, selection, design and production.  The card stock is 300GSM superluxe varnish, with a phenomenal 330GSM card box with moleskin finish.  The deck is then cellophane wrapped with gold tear-strip to ensure absolute freshness of handling straight from the box.

The design of GREAT WHITES is a perfect harmony between design detail and simplicity, with many of the court cards having been radically modified for this one unique deck.

Following on from the first sell-out collaboration deck (SHARKS) between DMC and Sovereign Playing Cards, the new GREAT WHITES promise to deliver all the quality and detail of the SHARKS with much, much more.

We are very excited to offer you the GREAT WHITES for a very limited time only, with just 1000 decks printed in the first edition."

Hi,

My name is nurul, I reside in the UK. I've decided to part with my V1 variety box. The box itself has been opened. Is in amazing condition. The decks have not been opened, no seals have broken, no cellophane removed (steamboats came without the cellophane). Only selling to UK, I may consider other parts of Europe depending on postal costs.
I'm looking for £130 inc special next day delivery.

Payment via PayPal please. Alternatively, if you live near the Birmingham area, you're more than welcome to collect with cash on arrival. in this case it would be £120

The decks included in the deck are as follows:-

1001 Aladdin Red
Bee M.D Smith Back no.2 Blue
Arrco Red
Bee Watermelon Red
S&M Luxury Edition Smoke V3 (original, not reprint)
S&M V4 (original, not reprint)
S&M V5 (original, not reprint)
Magic-Con 2011
Steamboat Blue (original not reprint)
Deck One V1
The Expert At The Card Tavle V2
Massa casino playing cards

There's a little dent in the variety box corner but the decks are in no way effected.

Images are not uploading but I'm happy to provide photos. Please email me at 12nur88@gmail.com

I will wrap this box tight in a plastic sleeve and bubble wrap and put it into a well fit box so it doesn't move around so much in transit.

Thanks for looking!

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Ryan Hayashi's Ultimate Coin Matrix

http://youtu.be/aKQ_tvbrDQQ

This frickin' blew my mind. Does anyone know if this is available? I've searched google and got nada. It's not even a discussion on the magic cafe (well, I couldn't find it anyway). All I know is, this was his entrant for the 2006 FISM championships. IMO, it's definately one of the best coin matrix I've seen in a looooooooooooooooooong time.

New limited deck from BBM. Available for per order from freepostmagic. To be released on 19th July.

Description:

"Bigblindmedia presents a beautiful new deck from the creators of the Bicycle Karnival range of playing cards - The Discoverie Deck. ng uses for!!!

In 1584 magic was changed forever by one man and one book Reginald Scot Pulished the Discoveries of Witchcraft. One of the first ever magic books written in the English language. Discoveries showed a superstitious public that magicians were not witches, but entertainers with clever effects and methods. We commemorate this historic moment in history with a deck befitting the Discoverie legacy.

The discoverie deck is designed in a style of a rare first edition Discoverie of Witchcraft. Intricate woodcuts from the book are featured on the faces of the cards, and the Aces are adorned with a passage from the book. Written in elegant calligraphic style of the day. The tuck case act as "covers" to protect the "pages" cards within. The Discoverie deck is printed on premium grade USPCC Stock

Without Discoverie the world of magic would have been a very different place. Help us celebrate the enormous impact of this little known volume with the historic deck of cards. It is the first and only pack of cards ever produced by vanishing inc magic, and has been printed in a very limited edition."
