Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

I think it's the Gold Crown deck too.
Also, since there is a Gold Crown deck thread, I don't see the need for this thread since we don't know what it is yet but are pretty sure it is Gold Crown.

The other thread is gone I looked for a few minutes for it.

Also I said gold crown on TBC's FB post and they said "Think Bigger..."

I dont think these will be for sale just themselves, or maybe they are going to be on sale but be expensive.

I am thinking a Giveaway for spending $x or something.

Does anyone else think they look like squares and not a card box? Maybe it is something not cards!

I personally don't think they are cards either. boxes are too square and too plain. On a side note it does look like they will be releasing some type of Crown Svengali or Gaff deck on Tuesday also.

  • Facebook:
Guys, if you haven't already read this, read this - it's from the FB event page for Tuesday:

Big news everyone! We’ve been busy behind-the-scenes (as usual) cooking up some great new items for everyone and we’re pleased to announce that they will be available on Tuesday, July 17th at 8PM eastern time!

So, what can you expect to see on Tuesday?

CROWN DECKS - Back in stock at www.thebluecrown.com! But we don’t just have the decks. We’re also introducing a FREE video download starring Alex Pandrea that will teach you fun and amazing routines using the various gaffed cards that come in every standard Crown deck.

CROWN GAFF DECKS - Not one, not two, but FOUR gaffed Crown Decks! We will be releasing Stripper, Svengali, Invisible, and Forcing Decks in Blue, Red, and Green! We’ve gotten TONS of requests for these gaffs, and we’re thrilled to finally make them available! With the purchase of each gaff deck you will receive a FREE video download starring Alex Pandrea that will show you how the deck works, and ways to perform with it.

THE 5TH ASSISTANT - We’re also releasing an awesome utility device from the mind of Geoff Weber, the creator of X-Finger. Imagine being able to produce any item from your empty pocket at a moment’s notice! You’ll be able to do this, plus a lot more, with The 5th Assistant! The 5th Assistant comes with 2 custom-made gimmicks and a full-length instructional DVD.

SURPRISES- We could stop right there an have an awesome release! But we like to go the extra mile, so stay tuned for some other surprises! You’ll notice the emphasis on Crown Decks... If you’re a fan or collector, let’s just say you won’t want to miss this event!

Keep your eyes on The Blue Crown Facebook page for contests and prize giveaways throughout the weekend leading up to the big release!

I already know what the secret package is.  I think that statement below, "think bigger", really hit the nail on the head.  This will be big...bigger than a deck of cards.  (Someone might want to edit the title - perhaps call it the TBC Mystery Box or something...  :)))

The gaffed decks are going to be a very sweet addition.  They weren't kidding about wanting to make the Crown Decks like the new Tally-Ho.  I'll probably be using a Crown stripper as a replacement for my Split Spades Lions stripper when it finally dies.  And I loves me a good invisible deck!  I thought I was going to have to get my hands on a can of roughing spray - I've used mine so much the spray's wearing off.

I'm looking forward to when they really go gaff-crazy and make gaff card decks like Ellusionist's!

I'm thinking it might be some sort of set, with 2 decks and something else perhaps as well.

Keep guessing...  :))

This will be in some ways like the Blaine Variety Boxes in that there's a serious scarcity to them - only 50.  Blaine made 250 of his first box, making this five times as rare.

I think the box is really cool!

I'm guessing that it will be all the decks every released by TBC and HOPC, with an addition of the Gold Crown. Does this make any sense?

Considering the size of the box, no, it doesn't...  :))

Crown Deck, v1 - 3 colors
Black Crown
Crown Deck, v2 - 3 colors
White Arrco
Vaudeville
NOC - 5 colors
Americana
Mechanic

That box looks awfully small to be holding SIXTEEN DECKS...

EDIT: make that seventeen, I forgot the upcoming release.

Ah, now I see it. They're square boxes?

I think it's gonna be, one big gold crown tuck case, with 4 decks in it. A bit like the bicycle different rider back colours box, but just smaller, with only the crown decks... :)

You know, it was 9am, just woke up, was a little dizzy from the 'stuff' I'd taken the night before... :)

Last guess would be: One block of massive gold with a little crown signature on it   :mindf-ck:

I don't know about anyone else, but if I knew this secret info and couldn't tell anyone, teasing people would be fun :P

Would you rather be filthy rich and no one know you are or buy nice cars and a nice house so people know?

Imagine how the hell I feel!  I have this really big secret and I have to keep it completely under wraps!  :))

At least I'm not busting out dimly lit photographs or fake stories about fake uncles...

Look, it's something that's really, really cool - you'll want one.  Hell, I want one.  I'm not getting one, for a number of reasons (financial being the biggest), but I have something similar.

You don't like secrets? Either does anyone else here. How about next time you tell Alex Pandrea or whoever that you don't want to know. Better yet, why not just tell us? Why all the secrecy? Telling us will just hype whatever it is even more? By the way what do you have that is similar? It's something everyone wants but yet nobody can figure out what it is? And bigger than a Gold Crown, what is that supposed to mean? Anyway sorry about my previous comments but I just don't understand why all the freakin' secrecy!

It's not really secrecy. They want us to guess and wonder what the heck the release could be! If they told us a week ahead of time, we would have no need to go to their site and look at it unless we wanted to buy it. If they don't tell us until the release, we will be dying to go to their site and see what the release is.

They want people to be interested in it, but they also want it to be a surprise.  Let me guess - when it's your birthday, you want to rip open the gifts before the cake?  :))

Patience is a virtue.  Be virtuous - it's only for about two-and-a-half more days.

I took no offense at your previous comment, so there's nothing to apologize for.  It was actually rather funny!

Bingo.  I'm open to hearing more guesses as long as you understand that I can give you no answers.

I guess the box has all 4 gimmick decks of all 3 color crown decks.
That makes it a brick. And I guess they'll throw in a gold crown deck for free.

But the brick alone would be expensive, considering they are magic decks.

Just my guess though.

Fair enough, I understand about the mystery and suspense of it all, but I like to know what something is before buying it and being that there are only 50, you don't have time to think about it when they release it!

Seriously though, I don't think they would put together all 4 gaff decks in all 4 colors, who the heck would pay for that? One of each is enough.

Can you give us a hint? Well answer this one simple question, is it some kind of cards??? Surely you must be able to tell us at least that much. Just send me a pm and tell me, I won't tell anyone, you may not believe me, but i'm good with keeping secrets myself.

Funny you mentioned something about birthday presents, I was never like that, however the way you are treating the whole thing is like you are teasing us about our birthday presents because you know what is and we can't know until it's time. What are we 9?

Actually, the idea of a brick of 12 different gaffed decks is kind of interesting...  :))   But this isn't a brick box.

Re: your statement about a brick of gaffed decks - it's pretty plain to see this is not a brick of anything.

A hint (not from me) was already posted earlier in this topic.  Go look for it.  The only thing I can say is, "It's a Blue Crown product."  I can't give you any information beyond that.

And no, we are not nine - not for a very long time, in my case!  But no one is forcing anyone to play this guessing game - you WANT to know or you wouldn't be here.  I've said from the start that I can't reveal anything about it and that condition hasn't changed.  Enjoy your guesses - some of them have actually been interesting, even entertaining.

Hmmm.......my guess will be the printing plates for the crown deck.  If your a fan of the crown decks or a collector, you would definitely want the printing plates.

USPC Legal said no more plates to be released.  Too dangerous because of the sharp metal, if you can believe that...

They are playing cards. I guess, all the playing cards ever requested, like another noc colour, the gold crown deck, the gaff decks, or maybe other decks, not sure

Ouch!  I cut myself with this rare/one of a kind printing plate that I have displayed in my cabinet.  Son of a.... Thats it, Im writing USPC and complaining.  What were they thinking by giving away a collectors item which was intended to cause harm to me.........lol  Hard to believe Don, but it is what it is.  Ok, this is my final guess.  Im guessing Crown Prototype Decks.  Final answer.

You can see the bottom, side of 2 decks in the picture. And the box can fit at least 4 more decks. Maybe every crown deck created, including the gold crown deck.

Great, their website will crash! I see they have been learning bad things from Theory11 and Ellusionist!

Do they even have anything to spend $100 on?

Not interested in the gaff decks and i have more than enough crown decks of all colors for my entire neighborhood.  I will just wait till they have another promotion and grab the gold crown deck.  The gold crown deck is the only crown deck I don't have and we all know they have more than 50 to give away.  I will wait...........patiently.

Then you'd better be really patient.  As I understand it, this will not be an easy deck to obtain outside of working for TBC/HOPC.  It wasn't even intended for general release in a gift item like this when it was first conceived - as the blog said, it was meant for company employees and artists.

Honestly - you wouldn't want a few strippers in the Crown design?  I'm chomping at the bit to get some!  I'm even thinking of getting some roughing spray to convert a few Svengalis into Mirage decks!  Plus my old invisible decks are getting a little worse for wear, so it might be time for new ones - it's arguably the best trick in all of card magic.  And I'm not even factoring in spending the cash to get the gift box - I just like the new merchandise!

I'm also not even taking into account the effects, new and old.  Prism Deck, Captain and Coke, the Anti-Faro, Resetting Travelers, Alex Pandrea's new video he shot with the Buck twins (Monet - it looks very cool)...  There's not a working magician out there who couldn't find enough NEW stuff on TBC to reach that spending minimum.

The Gold Crown is an awesome deck.  It's also going to be quite a bit tougher to get than the Black Crown was.

As a magician and collector there really isn't any deck i can purchase there ..but i would really want the gold crown deck .. i have alot of crown decks in my collection and i won't really want to buy any more since there were sold for only $4 at their last summer sale.. for their gaff deck .. i was pretty excited about it since there mention gaff deck and as they were 4 series of crown deck available to public , i thought that they were going to release those kind of gaff deck like ellusionist and anglo deck ..

But since they are going to release gaff deck like invisible deck ... i would rather purchase bicycle type of invisible deck rather than the crown deck ones since i peform magic more using bicycle deck ..

For their tricks dl i already have about half of them .. the only dl i would really want to purchase is the prism deck but unfortunately it is sold out ..

Don i would recommend you the Anti-faro and monet ... monet is a good look colour change which i use pretty often now ..  The anti-faro i am still trying very hard to learn .. if you are going to purchase the dvd you better be prepare .. you will spend alot of time trying to perfect that move .. i spend longer time than i spend using to learn the classic pass . i do not have Resetting Travelers but the trick look very lame ..

i would recommend you all to purchase the Hucko Steal and sandwiches and bind square .. Sandwiches teaches a sleight where you can move a card to the top .. that sleight is pretty useful .. i really use that sleight alot .. but the bind square control i do not really use it if i am surrounded but if i am performing to only a few spectators i use that sleight alot ..

Well, you said you have a lot of Crown Decks - why not just use them in performance?  You have to admit, they're pretty elegant-looking cards.  :))  I can't imagine they cost all that much more than Bikes when you catch them on sale or buy in bulk.

Prism isn't a download - it's a DVD with a deck.  Nice deck, too.

As far as gaffed CARDS, well - perhaps next time...

I'm a pretty patient guy.  I can wait.  You can't tell me that the blue crown didnt print more than 50 or 100 gold crown decks.  Customers have been pretty adamant and demanding that they make a gold crown deck.  And Voila!!  Now the gold crown decks have surfaced and are real.  Based on what I have seen in many threads we always talk about print runs.  If it was a 5,000 print run or a 2,500 print run.  To my understanding the black crown deck was supposed to be rare, but they printed 5,000.  So if the gold crown deck is supposed to be even more rare, then I would take a guess and say they probably printed around 2,500.  Maybe the blue crown will copy what E did with the LTD decks and give them away only during promotions since they dont sell the LTD decks on there site.  Who knows. And maybe your right, maybe there wont be another chance at the gold crown.  All this is just my own speculation and my own opinion.  I'm just gonna sit back with my feet propped up and my hands behind my head and see what happens in the near future.  All I know right now is there is no reason for me to spend $100 to get a gold crown deck.

Hey guys.  Sincere apologies - we're delaying til 8:30 due to some technical difficulties.

They are having technical issues. Why anyone would follow in Theory11's footsteps i'll never know. Limited releases will crash your website and shouldn't be done!

Its so nice to see so many of you feel this way... they act as though they're doing this for the customers rather than grabbing a quick $5,000... thanks for nothing... want to do right by your fans offer the deck at a respectable price... oh I know then it won't be limited and blah blah blah...

This delay would have happened if we weren't even doing the gift boxes.  This is related to an issue we're having getting our new products (trick decks, etc) functioning properly in the system.  Shouldn't be too much longer.

Our apologies again!

Meh, although I would LOVE to add a Gold Crown deck to my collection of Crowns, I don't really think there's that wide of a variety of products available on TBC's site. After all, they've only premiered for, what, a year or two now? Besides, I've already spent my $100 on Ellusionist's promotion for the Black Ghost. Sorry Guys! Hopefully everything goes well with the release. : (

I think they should have done the forcing deck where half of the deck is the same and the rest are different, much more convincing.
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

You could buy one normal deck and mix half and half of it :)

I ended up getting several tricks because the decks werent up yet and I didnt want to lose the gift box that landed in my cart. I ended up getting 3 gaff decks afterwards though.
The new gaff decks are a bit pricier than I was expecting so i'm not even getting them. Will cost $50 for all 4.

Sorry if there was a double post there, thought someone else had posted but I guess not.

What did you put that $100 to?

- “He that can have Patience, can have what he will." - Benjamin Franklin   ;)

Fair enough.  All I can tell you is that this deck wasn't even intended for public release when it was created.  I suspect there will be very few opportunities to get it in the future.

Don, don't tell you are going to try and be one of those first 50 people, I mean we all know you already have the Gold Crown, let some one else get some.

Yeah, I know!  I didn't even try - woke up late, nearly 9pm, didn't even look at TBC site until I was at work for nearly an hour.  I'm really itching to get some of those deck, though - as well as the 5th Assistant.

So - who got the five-deck set and who didn't?  I think you, vmagic, were one of the lucky ones, right?  Anyone else?

But I'm a bit happy cause I really have nothing worth 100$ +50$ shipping to buy.

I'll just put my luck on next promotions.

Although I didn't get them, what I'm more curious to find is what they look like. Does anyone have any pics of the cards other than the box? Forgive me if they've already been up somewhere else.

I'd love to - but still can't.  TBC wants me to wait until their customers have theirs and post/review/etc.  Patience, patience...

Okay vmagic! - Post your reviews on these forums so we can all see! I just have a feeling that these cards look identical to the other Crown decks, just in gold, and maybe metallic.

Even though I would have loved to get these in my collection, together with the v1's I still don't own, I didn't really attempt to get these. For a few reasons:

1: It was in the middle of the night and I didn't really wanted to wake up early
2: There wasn't much for sale that I didn't already have.
3: I would have loved to get the gaffed decks, but was a little short on money
4: TBC is not one of these companies I have to have everything off. I started a little too late with missing the v1's, so I wasn't as implicated as I am with HOPC, Circle City, Theory11, DnD...

That's pretty much it, really.  Still Arrco faces on the fronts.  I'll be showing off photos soon.

Precisely, John.  It's not some radical redesign - they're Crown decks, after all.  I should be able to post mine sometime in the middle of next week.

These were given to this guy as a gift from Alex Pandrea....
If they're giving them out by the half brick, there cant be too small of an amount printed.

By that logic, if I gave you a half-brick of Deck X, there should be a huge amount of them printed - but I could have had made only hundred decks (or even less) and perhaps I just happened to like you enough to give you a healthy chunk of them...

Did they make fifty?  Of course not.
Did they make fifty thousand?  Of course not.
But we have no way of knowing what the actual number is unless TBC decides to 'fess up.

Honestly, and this is just a guess based on what I know, I don't think there's going to ever be a whole lot of these released to the general public - at least not any time soon.  When the idea came around to make them, they were never intended for public release - just for internal use, for staff and talent, akin to how the Black Ghost 1st Edition decks originally were.  When BG1E came out, you couldn't buy, beg or steal one from E - they had to give you one, and they were only going to prominent talent in the magic/cardistry business (and probably staff members).  It was only sometime later they started offering them as a freebie for being a loyal, big-spending customer or a contest winner.

21 bids already at that amount?!?!  My gawwd.  I'm gonna laugh when the rest of us get this deck (as another promotional item down the road or what have you) for much much less.

I truly believe that going to happen. It happened with almost every magic company in existence, why not them?

Ellusionist had the LTD decks.
Theory11 had the White Centurions.
And I believe TBC's next.

I truly believe that going to happen. It happened with almost every magic company in existence, why not them?

Ellusionist had the LTD decks.
Theory11 had the White Centurions.
And I believe TBC's next.

Well, to be a bit more accurate:

Ellusionist had the BG1E, first as a special "in-house" deck, then as a premium.  Then they made Gold Arcane (premium deck from the start), Red Artifice (3,000 of 5,000 sold, the rest are premiums) and the LTD (limited-time premium).

Theory11 had White Centurions and White Monarchs - but when first introduced, BOTH were available for sale like any other limited-edition deck, and only after did they become premium decks.

TBC/HOPC has the Gold Crown - primarily an in-house deck like BG1E, and only 50 released to the general public.

BY THE WAY, GANG - I believe I know who that seller is!

His eBay handle is juju7210.  The profile there states he's based in France.
We have a user here, jujuforce, who is also France-based AND is a playing card reseller!
Who here thinks this isn't just a coincidence?

Did you also happen to notice that he's got a SEALED BRICK of White Monarchs for sale?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/White-Monarchs-Playing-Cards-SEALED-BRICK-Theory11-Monarch-LAST-ONE/160842848796?ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1&ih=006&category=1438&cmd=ViewItem

I mean, dude - he's ONLY asking for EIGHT HUNDRED BUCKS...that's a steal, right?  :))

Guys, just so you know - I'm playing a little; I don't mean any ill will towards Jujuforce, and he does operate a shop that not only is very convenient for our European users, but he also offers us a coupon code just for Discourse members!  It's worth checking out; it's on our coupon code list, which has been made part of the New Deck Report, a stickied topic at the start of the PCP.

Well, if you think about it, right now there's fewer of them in circulation than there are J-Nuggs...

With the two contests they're running for the release of the London 2012 deck, the "gold prize" winner of each will get, among other things, a Gold Crown deck, making a grand total of 52 out in the wild.

But...if you want to get some J-Nuggs for BELOW MARKET VALUE, check this topic!

The Gold Crown deck on ebay is going for the price of a Jerry's Nuggets deck... something is wrong here.

Well, if you think about it, right now there's fewer of them in circulation than there are J-Nuggs...

With the two contests they're running for the release of the London 2012 deck, the "gold prize" winner of each will get, among other things, a Gold Crown deck, making a grand total of 52 out in the wild.

But...if you want to get some J-Nuggs for BELOW MARKET VALUE, check this topic!
http://aethercards.com/discourse/index.php?topic=2963.0
Just because there are fewer, doesn't meant they are worth the same amount and they are sought after as much as Jerry's

I have to agree with you there Evan, the price is currently sitting at over $400 and has 33 bids...

What's even more surprising is that it still has 3 days left.

The seller relisted it - two decks available with a Buy It Now of $499.99 EACH.

He must have seen the direction this deck was taking and decided that he'd rather set the terms than have someone else set them for him in an auction.

I think that someone may buy it at $499 but he'd have better luck at $399

I watch all this stuff with keen interest, planning for that day when I can sell a subset of my own cards directly (bypassing the eBay resellers) and people will happily pay $500 for one deck.

MUAHAHAHAAA!!!!

(but what really fascinates me about this is that the market wasn't super interested in the printing plate for Tendril, of which TWO, ever, will be available but they'll spend $500 on one deck of cards that, lets be real here, is pretty basic and almost certain to have more available someday. Market forces are truly intriguing and unpredictable)

That may not have initially been the case, but looking at what's going on with the price it's easy to rationalize it. I mean I get a Gold deck for $100 (and I get $100 worth of free merchandise from the Blue Crown)  ;) Now I can sell it for $400-$500 dollars  ;D knowing that it probably won't be that long before I can pick another one up in another offer for around the same $100. Maybe not, but it's a good gamble for that kind of profit.

Regarding you plates, I think the low interest had a lot to do with the fact that it was an entirely unknown quantity.  For comparison, look at what happened with the first-ever Star Wars poster.  Roughly a year before the movie was released, Lucas and company were trying to drum up interest in it at the San Diego Comic-Con.  A prominent comic book artist named Howard Chaykin was already working on a comic book version of the film based on the original script - which is why there are a number of scenes that occur in the comic that never occurs in the finished film; they were cut out during editing.  Anyway, they asked Chaykin to create a Star Wars poster based on the comic book imagery, just to have something to sell at the convention.  It was the only time these posters were released for retail sale (not counting after-market sales), and the price was one dollar.  There was some interest in it, but many convention goers passed, not quite grasping the film - it was more of a comic book convention back then, and sci-fi was very different in the early-mid '70s before Star Wars came out; a lot of sterile environments or visions of a post-apocalyptic future after nuclear war (which was still considered a viable option then) and things along those lines, with none of the "used universe" concept that Lucas used throughout the film.  It's been said that only a thousand of these posters were printed, though some argue the number is higher.

Today, that same poster is considered one of the rarest Star Wars poster ever made and typically sells in the low four figures.  This place is selling it for $2,995.

The point being, your card plates will likely become a famous, rare, expensive artifact - in the future.  But for today, it's so rare and so different, many collectors have no idea what price to value it at.  As such, they may be skittish about buying something that potentially (in their view) be worthless as easily as it could potentially be valuable.  Look at Massa decks - when they came out they were fetching premium prices for their awesome fanning abilities.  But as soon as people discovered how quickly they wear out, the price plummeted.  I got mine for $2 each, and I've heard of one after-market seller using them as a protective layer when shipping valuable decks!

At 2,500, assuming that's the amount, they're more limited than most decks on the market.  Black Ghost 1st Edition is twice as common, and they go for $100-200 these days, depending on market fluctuations.  So is Gold Arcane, Red Artifice, etc.  And some companies with longstanding working relationships with USPC get shorter print runs - Zenneth Kok ordered 5,000 Gold Seal New Fan Backs in black, but only 1,000 in white.  So it's very possible that fewer were made - I work there on occasion and I don't even know how many were made.  If I see Kevin and Alex tomorrow, perhaps I'll ask - if it's not some company secret, I'll let you guys know.

And you do know that my previous post, from start to finish, was about Paul's Tendril card plates and not about the Gold Crowns, right?  You couldn't really compare the two; they're related but very different products.

No problemo.  But yes, it's possible they made 2,500 - but it's also close to even odds they made noticeably less.  Either way, it's anything but common.

Quantity is a funny thing with decks.  It seems to have minimal impact on after-market value just as frequently as it does.  In other words, it's a toss-up.

For example, my Lefty Deck and White Arrco runs were only 5k each, same as 1st ed Black Ghosts, Red Artifice, and several other collectible decks that go for high prices.

However, you don't see anyone paying $50 for a Lefty Deck!  Lefty decks may even be more rare at this point, as most of the run has been opened and used.  So out in the world, probably fewer sealed Lefty Decks exist than 1st Ed Black Ghosts.  Yet, they'll never go for the kind of prices that the BG goes for.  That's just a matter of desire.

So, quantity is an influence, but it's not everything.

I finally got the go-ahead to post some Gold Crown photos!

The box itself is a lot like the Black Crowns in terms of style, but the texture is a matte finish on it.  It looks COOL.

The backs - what did you expect, they're Crowns, after all...but they do look mighty nice.  It's hard to show, but that's metallic gold ink.  Sexy!

The fronts - tell me you weren't expecting anything different from Arrco faces, right?

The deck comes in a preset order, not standard - I forget if it's one faro or one anti-faro away from the Tamariz stack.

Let me know what you think!

They are nice but honestly not what I expected. I expected solid gold with the white on the crowns and the other detail, not a black crown with gold ink. I actually am disappointed by these.

I agree partly with Aaron. I expected much more from the deck because how the box looked, but, like they always say, you can't judge a book by it's cover. I agree with Aaron when I expected the back design to be White & Gold, but, aye, if TBC wants to do that, let them. To me, it's like comparing the Gold Monarchs (sold out version) with the White Monarchs. They both contain metallic ink, and look identical, but which would you prefer. In both scenarios involving the Gold Crowns and the Gold Monarchs, I would prefer the White version because it simply looks cleaner. Oh well, I'm still not downing in jealousy (only slightly) because I wasn't able to score on one of these decks, I'm just okay with it. Thanks Don for posting up pictures. I have a sure-fire feeling that not many pictures of the Gold Crowns are going to be put up anymore now that people realize its prestige.

Why did you think they be white and gold instead of black and gold?  Just because of the White Monarchs?  A deck sold by an entirely different entity?  That doesn't make a lot of sense, to me.

As far as appearance, my photos (or any photo I could take) doesn't really do this deck justice.  The metallic gold ink really pops on that card back.  Few photographers seem to be able to capture that metallic shine with their cameras; it certainly requires something way more sophisticated than what I have in my smartphone.  They look better to me than the Gold Monarchs, because there was enough large spaces in the deck's design to really allow the gold to show.

I didnt expect them to be like the gold monarchs I expected what is black on these to be gold and what is gold on these to be white or black. So it would be more of a solid color gold. The box even suggests that.

I also disagree with the point about them being nicer theat Gold Arcanes, The gold Arcanes are IMO nicer because the faces are also black and have the metalic in them. With these it is just arrco faces that I personally am not very fond of. But really to each his own.

I figured TBC would make these decks with a white back because white and gold merely looks cleaner and, overall, better. IMO

First, an amendment - that contest for the Gold Crown is only for orders placed in the first 48 hours of the sale.  So you have until Sunday evening.

As far as expecting something from the box and getting something different - don't judge a book by its cover, don't judge a deck by its box.

As far as Gold Arcanes, my opened pack is really chipped from only a little shuffling.  Also, the fact that ALL of the courts have gold pips rather than just the traditionally black pips makes certain aspects of gameplay a little more difficult.

Why did you think they be white and gold instead of black and gold?  Just because of the White Monarchs?  A deck sold by an entirely different entity?  That doesn't make a lot of sense, to me.

I figured TBC would make these decks with a white back because white and gold merely looks cleaner and, overall, better. IMO

So if I thought that chartreuse and lime looked cleaner and better, am I supposed to be disappointed with every deck that doesn't have that color scheme?  There are a plethora of color schemes that would look clean and good on the backs of a pack of cards.  But I don't get disappointed just because only a few don't come in the color schemes that I like most.  Each is an individual work of art, and I judge them on their merits, not what my expectations were, especially since you haven't seen any promo photos showing anything about the deck until I posted mine (which technically aren't even promos).

The one thing that helped make the White Monarchs look so clean and elegant wasn't just the gold-on-white color scheme.  It was also the fact that the art was all very fine lines, done in little dashes.  If you took the Gold Crowns and swapped in white to replace gold and gold to replace black, you'd be looking at an awful lot of gold, enough to probably consider it gaudy.  If you simply swapped in white to replace black, that also might be a bit bright.  The black helps to offset the gold and it does create and elegant and classic look.

How many times have you watched movies set in the American Reconstruction/British Victorian era or the early 20th century that had signage that made excellent use of gold on black?  I still see trucks for one deli meats company in New York that are painted predominantly black with gold lettering - it reminds me of those eras.  If it wasn't for the fact that metallic inks weren't in common use (or possibly hadn't even been discovered yet), I'd say this deck would look at home in the drawing room of a turn-of-the-century gentleman in London or a well-to-do businessman in New York or Boston, enjoying a post-dinner cigar with a few guests, possibly playing cards together.

But in the end, everyone's entitled to their own opinions.  You've said yours, I've said mine.

At first I thought it would be a white tuck box with a gold crown on the bottom right (like the black) and the back design was going to be an inverse all white with gold artwork. That however would have been a disappointment having had the white monarchs released weeks before.

I'm pleased with the Gold Crown Deck. TBC created the deck in a style that can be called their own. Very similar to the Black Crown Deck (swapping out the silver for gold). I remember seeing the Bicycle New Era deck and thinking what a nice color arrangement. Now to have my favorite deck in a limited print with the same color arrangement, very nice!!

Every magic company has that one deck that fetches a high price in the secondary market. Now TBC has their own. There is a brand image that goes along with that. I hope TBC protects that brand image by not creating anymore colors of the Crown Deck, Not reprinting more Black Crowns and keeping the Gold Crown very limited and difficult to obtain.

Because the Gold Crown deck is so similar to the Black Crown, I can now see why it would have been created only for themselves and not for public release.

You raise a perfect point about the White Monarchs and the Gold Crowns.  They literally are Black Crowns with gold instead of silver and a matte gold box with a gold foil crown.

As far as I know, there are no plans to reprint Black or Gold Crowns.  They also knew such a beautiful deck really needed to get out there - hence the introductory special box.  Again, as far as I know, the general plan with Gold Crowns is to make them very special, and not so easily obtained.
