Looks like an infinite loop, possibly caused by having multiple tabs open?  If you close one of those pop-ups, another identical one takes it place, so I'm guessing whatever loop is going through the posts to find new ones is hitting the first one and never ending.

Also, is there a way to disable this feature?  Personally, I like to open new forum posts in new tabs and work my way through them like that so this feature is doing noting for me but blocking off the far right of the screen; can we have an option to disable it?

EDIT; If you make a thread, it also lists the first post as a reply to that thread (i.e it informs you of new pots even if it was you who made the new post).

Also, sometimes it isn't just one post, I've gotten an endless loop of about 8 notifications that just go round and round; when you close one, it just goes back to the bottom of the stack.

It also lists an edit to a post as a new post, I think.

I have also had this same problem, and it bothered me because it was in the way of things and they wouldn't go away. Like Kanped said is there a way to disable them?

The feature is being worked on - it will be less intrusive when it is completed.

Okay guys, the problem should be much less intrusive. If you do see the notifications spiral down your screen, they will go away automatically within a few seconds.

Okay thanks Alex, and I have seen it go away within a few seconds so it's not as bothering.

Do you guys have any suggestions on how you'd like the notifications to work? i.e., where they should pop up, whether they should pop up at all, or how they should be formatted. How do you like being notified or do you prefer going through the topics yourself? Just trying out something new.

I'm gonna disable the feature altogether, but it'd be great to have some comments from our users before I do so we can improve on it.

Just like Facebook timeline, on the right side upper part, or you could make the forum post more narrow.

I think that if you had a button next to your name and all that to have a button that drops down a menu of your notifications and when you click it again the menu goes right back up. And when you get a new notification it will have the number of new ones you have at the top right of the button. Hope this helps

If it's pretty much as is but it activated by a button, I think that'd be OK (with the bugs fixed).  Personally, I like reading through everything and seeing what's new by opening everything in tabs but if people like it, then I think just a button at the top-right of the page that displays/hides them would be good.

Is it fixed now? It should only be popping up when you receive a new private message.

...ummm.  Right.  OK.

Now, the entire system is exclusively made up of pop-ups.  If you are not seeing pop-ups, that means that it most definitely is NOT working.  Which it isn't.  Which is why they got rid of it for the time being.  I have no idea what you thought we were talking about all this time...

No, when I said that, I meant that referring to Alex's fix that he made in a few earlier posts. I said that his fix worked because I did not see a streamline of posts running throughout my page.

I don't ever see these and I'm also using Adblock so that could be the culprit ;)
Mystery is the basic appeal of magic. Once the secrets are known, the magician becomes a mere manipulator, an actor in a suspense drama which has little impact because the audience knows the ending in advance.

It stopped happening about a day after it started. For me, at least.
And I use AdBlock, too. So I don't think it's that.  :P Maybe you only opened the Discourse once the problem had been fixed?
