Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Re: Gaff items

I'm starting to make Gaff Poker chips and they look pretty cool.
I want to hear your idea about gaff items like cards and coins.
http://youtu.be/a8G5kYggy5E
the link is a performance of a gaff chip called sinker

It's a nice effect - have you considered approaching a company with it?

yes, I'm thinking of keeping it to myself :-\

thanks , i play around with coins and chips alot, it took me a while to come up with this
http://youtu.be/lKAZ8VvIpWo
this is another trick i do with the chips its a switch with a gaff

The effect in the video isn't bad, but I would make a couple suggestions.

I am not 100% sure on the gaff you made, but this could be done without anything besides a switch. I would use regular coins and not poker chips, because by doing this you can make the trick seem a bit more impromptu and gives it a "normal" feeling. (might have to play with the wording depending on the size of the coin)

Either way, the moment when the move takes place needs to be rethought out, it doesn't make sense to put something into your top hand to immediately drop it to the lower hand if the chip was already in the lower hand to begin with. Also, you want to find a way, through movement or patter, to reduce the focus on the hands during that move....not emphasize it like you did in the video, the time you want spectators totally focused on the chip/your hands is when you move the "a"

Nice work so far though.

I will work on it and it is really simple its just a prototype, its doesnt work all the time

I'm DJ, I live in Georgia ,but I used to live in Houston and New Orleans . I've been doing magic for about 10 years , people tell me that's impossible for a 16 year old, but it isn't. I was traveling around youtube and found this site, so far this site rules them all! :D :D  :bosswalk: :bosswalk:

I usually ask them " hey, want to see something cool?"

I'm curious on how you guys go up to people and ask them if you can perform a trick for them?  :-\

oh okay i understand now thank you.

Have you checked some of the previous topics on this subject?

I don't really understand what you mean. :-\

It's been covered in similar topics before.

This topic covers it pretty well.
http://aethercards.com/discourse/magical-cardistry-bonanza/how-to-really-get-into-performing-for-people/

This is more on audience management, a related topic.
http://aethercards.com/discourse/magical-cardistry-bonanza/audience-management/

This is a little about the approach, but more about the reactions.
http://aethercards.com/discourse/magical-cardistry-bonanza/magical-reactions/

I'm going to merge this topic with the first one I listed, since it seems like a good place for it.
I understand now thank you

does anyone have advice for inventing a new card flourish? :o

1. Practice
2. Practice
3. Practice
4. Review your performance on a video
5. Go to step 1

If you want more specific advice, write a more specific question.

Every time I go out with anyone that has cardistry skills, they're practically non-stop fiddling with a pack of cards - it looks almost like a mental compulsion.  These guys eat, sleep and breathe cards.  Even if a move has been perfected, they still practice it to keep it fresh in their minds and their muscle memory.  If you can perform any move cold after being slapped awake and having a gun pointed to your head, maybe then you can stop practicing it.  And it's out of that practicing that new moves come into existence, whether with intent or by accidental inspiration.
I'll have to remember this. :bosswalk:

Hey guys and gals, I like to do a mixture of cardistry and magic, I'm from New Orleans and my friends call me chosen ( its because of a trick i did where the cards changed in my hand without anyone noticing), but yeah I'm new to the forums and love magic :)

Step 1: Make your own intro thread instead of hijacking another. ;)

Welcome to the boards mate.

didn't really think of that.
