"some additions to your collection enclosed"

 :D :D :D :D reveal!

Oh, nothing too ridiculous.  A couple of the 130 decks, a Zombie, a Club 808 Joker deck, the Craft Beer deck, and one of the 2008 election decks.  A couple there that I didn't have, so all in all, an awesome reply!

So a friend of mine who knows about my enthusiasm for playing cards sent a registered letter to the President of USPCC, telling him about how I'm the company's biggest fan and asking him if he'd send me a witty letter acknowledging such (basically as a unique Christmas gift idea for me).  This was the reply.

I was just about to pledge for these and then I saw that back design,

It kind of looks like a unicorn puked on a playing card.

Any chance you'd be willing to do a couple of decent resolution scans of the backs (red and blue) and PM me?  I am in the VERY early stages of putting together a non-Bicycle vintage back designs website.

5
Sweet. That is a neat back design.  I feel like someone needs to put together a vintage back design web page (non-Bicycle).

Nice find!  Any idea on manufacture date?

Sweet.  I am a huge fan of decks that don't look like they came out of the nightmare of someone who spent all day playing Dungeons and Dragons and had spicy chili right before bed.

Your information on both the Play Rights and the Studs are extremely welcome.  Hopefully we'll see a lot more of you around here - the majority of people on this message board are very friendly.

Agreed.

(And I just narrowly managed to pick up the last 25 decks of Studs from my local Walgreen's...)

It's also worth noting (for those who complain about the effort put into the design or that it doesn't seem like a USPC-type design), that this is one of the original Bicycle back designs, first released in 1893.

I wonder if they have them at Costco... that'd be very helpful
They probably do.

No, per USPC, just BJ's.

Oh I didn't notice they were bridge size. Why would they do that? Who in this community uses bridge size over poker size..... pretty much no one.  :P

Perhaps they were designed for and intended to be sold to ACTUAL CARD PLAYERS and not "the community."

Score!  9 sets at the retail rate of $8.99 each at BJ's.    :D

13
I did confirm with USPC that these are a limited retail release through the BJ's Warehouse Club, just like last year's "Heritage Design' series.  Unfortunately, none of the BJ's locations near me have them (at least not yet).  However, I did score 6 more of last year's sets for $11.99 each- not bad for 5 decks plus the latest version of "Official Rules of Card Games."    ;D

14
Cool.  Anybody know if these are a private reseller reprint or something different (like last year's BJ's Heritage Design Series)?

Thanks.

My apologies to anyone who may have tried to open the website in Internet Explorer.  I just opened it with IE for the first time and found a ton of freaky-deaky html artifacts.  But I have cleaned those up, and in the process, made a few revisions.
http://www.jimknapp.com/Cards/Bicycle.htm

I have also added a little bit more info and a couple more backs at the end in the section dealing with some of the more modern backs.  If anyone has any suggestions for USPCC-issued non-Rider backs, or any corrections generally, please feel free to message me and let me know.

Thanks!

law_kid was right.

The Big Gun decks were the first in a 4 set series of decks.

Given that the "Limited Edition" series decks were the first two releases in a supposed series of 10, and since we are still waiting on the last three decks from the "Vintage Design" series, I am not holding my breath.  But I sure hope that they happen!   :D

Really?! I didn't hear about the "Big Gun" reprints. Were they good quality?

I honestly haven't opened mine yet.  But if you'd like a pair, you can find them from the usual resellers on eBay:

The Dreadnaught back is pretty B.A. as well.

Supposedly, those are going to be reprinted soon-- I'm guessing by whoever it was that did the "Big Gun" reprints last year.  But that may just be a rumor.

Also, here is the main link to that page, so that you don't get deposited in the middle of the page:

Playing Card Plethora / Re: decks being created by other forumors

I can't enforce copyright claims unless they are legal. My advice is to upload all your images with a Creative Commons license. Just use http://deviantart.com for that.

Legally, copyright inheres in the creator at the moment the work is created, and becomes enforceable.  You can also take the additional step of registering your copyright with the appropriate governmental body, which provides additional protections, but it is not necessary to do so for the creator to have a valid, legally-enforceable copyright.

Dave Hofmeister (pokerstud52) is releasing a vintage Aladdin design in a few weeks.

I'd say the Congress brand (bridge size) court cards, followed by the vintage ones on the Angel-back Squeezers.  You can keep your deathy, gothy court cards and their crossed-out eyes!

Also, in a few weeks I will be releasing a classic Aladdin design that hasn't been seen since the 1930s. It's truly a beautiful back design, and the cards will be A/C finish. They are being printed now by USPC.

Dave, I am VERY much looking forward to these.

There is nothing that I don't like about this deck.  Except, of course, that I don't have it yet.
