Another new deck coming out this April!

"
Apple To Change Toys: Bicycle Jacked Up! Sure you could just pull out a normal deck of 51 cards (old decks always seem to have one card missing) to play War or Solitaire of Hearts. Or you can spice up these pedantic pasteboard pastimes with a Bicycle iPhone/iPad app. A QR code on these special Bicycle-brand cards ($6 each, April) activates the app, and special cards in each deck printed with a QR code are held up to the phone to introduce new game-play wrinkles or rule changes. pretty cool that they are bringing technology into cards but I doubt I will get these.
People say nothing's impossible, but I do nothing everyday.

Today I found something that reminded me of you. But don't worry I flushed and everything went back to normal.

Its definitely cool, innovative, and unique but it sort of ruins the whole idea of really playing cards.  :-\

Yeah it's cool that they are coming up with new ways to use QR codes, but I would rather just playing with a normal deck of bikes. War is one game that I would just prefer to play the old fashion way

I like it! Although there is a lack of design, I might still get it or not. Is it going to be available in retailing store such as Target or Walmart, or only online?

Fun idea, decent price, terrible design.  I don't play those games*, so I'll pass but there's definitely a market for them and I think it's a clever idea.

*Instead, we usually play a game called 'Henry Clarkson'; it's Jack-Change-It with the F-U rules (any mistake, pick up 2 cards, Ace of hearts pick up 5, 2 of hearts on Ace of Hearts; pick up 7 etc.) except you also have 10 seconds only to think of a celebrity whose first name starts with the same letter as the previous celebrity's last name (like, I say Danny Elfman, you say Eric Morcombe, next person says Michelle Rodriguez etc.).
If the 10 seconds run out, you play your card then pick up 2.  You cannot say the same celebrity twice in a game, or in any subsequent game played in a row.  A celebrity is anyone with a Wikipedia entry (you can choose whether stubs count or not).
If you name a serial killer, everyone has to cheer and say 'serial killer bonus!'.  If they don't, they have to pick up 2.

Why is it called 'Henry Clarkson'?  The first time we played it, one of my friends couldn't think of an 'H' name, and someone whispered 'Henrik Larsen' (Danish soccer player), who he'd never heard of and so misheard as 'Henry Clarkson' and offered that as an answer.  We named the game thus, lest he ever forgot.

I whole-heartedly recommend it.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

  • Facebook:
This deck was on display at the NY Toy Fair - I linked somewhere around here to a video by John Bayme acting as a USPC rep and talking about "upcoming releases", most of which were already out, like the Steam Punk deck.  The one thing that caught my eye was an Ace of Spades with a QR code in it.

I see it as an interesting novelty, not as something that will change playing cards forever.  People will forget about this as swiftly as they did the countless Monopoly spin-off games like Free Parking.

BTW: when I saw the title, I was thinking that USPC decided to continue the "War Series" decks, a.k.a. the "Victory Series" - kind of strange, when "Big Gun" wound up on closeout for $0.99 a pack!

Deffinetly a nice innovative idea, whether that equates to sales is yet to be seen, if I played these games though I'd deffinetly pick up a deck.
Mystery is the basic appeal of magic. Once the secrets are known, the magician becomes a mere manipulator, an actor in a suspense drama which has little impact because the audience knows the ending in advance.

I love the fact that there is an integration in physical and digital worlds.
I know the font style is basically to show that the deck is fun, I'm just not that fond of it... But maybe I might get just 1 for the sake of having one. War anyone?

You shuffle, I'll deal...  :))

Certain things are more enjoyable in the physical realm.  Granted, there's countless card game apps out there as well, but those games originated for the most part as card games playing in real life with real cards.  Merging the two sounds a bit awkward.

I can grab a deck of cards and play War with you, plain and simple, or I can grab a Jacked Up deck, AND my smartphone, AND I have to make sure it's charged, AND make sure I don't burn up the entire battery on card games...  With a deck of cards, War is a simple-enough affair that you can play it seated next to someone on the train, each holding your own cards as the game progresses.  This adds a new level of complexity to a simple game, and if you played it on the subway in New York, you'd have to be on the lookout for snatch-and-grab tech thieves.  It's become really popular on the subways to wait until the doors are nearly closed, grab someone's smartphone or tablet, then bolt out of the car just as the doors are sealed shut and the train pulls away.  They used to do this with jewelery but some of these gadgets fetch a better price than gold (or worse for the thief, imitation metals).

Another thing occurs to me - just how many kids out there, people who play the most games of War, actually have an iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or Android device?

Like I said - novelty item, eventually found on the heap with all the other dead novelties.  Better than 90% of buyers will likely play it once or twice out of curiosity, then toss it in the back of a drawer and find some regular Rider Backs to play with.

Its cool and innovative and I think its neat that they are bringing technology into it but like  said before, it kinda defeats the purpose of just playing a card game. I won't be buying these.
