Title: Christmas Decks Are Appearing -Everywhere- 2015
Post by: Fess on October 20, 2015, 12:15:23 PM
It's soon to be Halloween and we all know what that means... Christmas!  ;D

While on a recent trek to the dollar store for some kitty treats for my little black meow. I noticed out of the corner of my eye a little box with red and green all over it. Sure enough, it was a box of Bridge sized Christmas Playing Cards! "Some Joy!" I thought to myself and pulled a couple unmolested cardboard tucks from the container, of course most of the tucks had already been abused by countless little fingers as naturally it was on the second to bottom shelf. Yes friends, I know what you're thinking. "Fes don't touch those, it's sick season!", be at ease dear reader I live in a warm climate sick season is a month off yet and even so, I would brave the risk of illness to bring you all photos of this find!  :bosswalk:

I hope many others do the same and share their Christmas deck discoveries this year. Lets have some fun with this thread. :))

I love cheap holiday theme decks. They don't survive the season as I haul them with me to coffee shops and diner's to play a few hands of black jack or poker with pals while having a chat. Coffee, water, soda and juice often limit their lifespan. They're a joy while they survive.

Bridge Sized, $1, Christmas Themed, Rough Cut, Plastic Coated Glory!
Thankfully I took a photo of the tucks before I opened them, they were difficult and are both fairly damaged haha.

Maybe the Christmas deck by Natilia will be a nice alternative, really looking at those now :)

Who is Natilia?  A Google search for Christmas deck Natilia produces no useful results.

I hope this gets a higher quality treatment than MPC. While MPC has improved quite a bit. This kind of charming screams for a Legends print run. :))

They do have a few serious advantages, you have to admit.  They print runs as tiny as a single deck at prices that don't break the bank.  If performance is less important than appearance, they don't do too bad of a job, though they still print a little darker than expected.

For this type of deck. I don't mind MPC so much. Being an art deck, I don't expect to use it for games.

Nearly every designer I know, regardless of who they're printing with, will go to MPC to have prototype decks made.  It's hard to ignore.

I'm not an MPC hater, not by any means. I actually like their poker decks and will use them for friendly games once in a while. I am hoping that there is a print run that's bigger than what a typical MPC run is on Kickstarter. The Legends quality would also be very cool to see on a Holiday deck that doesn't have skulls on it.

Christmas is big business, lots of people look for cool Christmas things their neighbors don't have yet. I can see people choosing this deck as one of those items and spreading some custom playing card love along with their holiday cheer whilst making merry and downing a few gallons of eggnog.

Incidentally I haven't had a sip of eggnog in about fifteen years with no plans to do so in the next fifteen either haha.

I might have had the alcoholic version once.  It's been years since I've even had the non-alcoholic version, though.  The commercial product sold around here is like liquid sugar and I know no one that makes it on their own at home.  Maybe I'll give it a shot.

Natalia is planning on having these delivered by Christmas. MPC is more likely the printer. I think I saw that's it's only going to be a 20 day campaign.

It will be USPCC printed and available at http://www.penguinmagic.com, but no word on when or price.
