The Conversation Parlor / Ever Meet any Celebrities?
« on: December 10, 2011, 10:08:00 AM »
Now yesterday I had an experience that made me write this topic. I was hanging out at this one "Flea-Market" type place when I noticed that Philadelphia Flyers player Braydon Coburn was signing autographs there.

I'm wondering what celebrities you've met before. please say the name and how you met them.

I have also met:
  • "Weird Al" Yankovic during a meet and greet after his concert
  • David Henry from "Wizards of Waverly Place", whom I met as a celebrity guest in Times Square during "Nintendo Power's 20th anniversary.
  • Jake T. Austin from "Wizards of Waverly Place" during the same event as above.
  • Kyle Massey from "That's So Raven" and "Cory in the House" during the same event.
  • Cole Hamels from the Phillies after going to a Phillies game early and being one of few to get his autograph.
  • Jamie Moyer from the Phillies and I believe the Cubs during the same event as above.
  • Greg Luzinski from Phillies and White Sox who is literally at every Phillies home game.

Who have you guys met?

The Conversation Parlor / Why I Now Deeply Hate Theory11!
« on: December 04, 2011, 06:23:47 PM »
Now as I'm sure many of you know, Theory11 hasn't gotten the "best" publicity lately.

Remember the Monarchs fiasco? How about threatening Evan to let him never make another purchase from them?

Well this Wednesday they finally raised the bar on how terrible a company can be.

As many of you know, Theory11 has a relatively new service called "The Wire". On said service, you can submit original tricks, become known in the magic world, and make profits by selling your tricks.

Meet 19 year-old Alex Offenkrantz; a card magician with a dream of making it big. He realized this was his chance to become big.

His original trick "Sourdough Switch" was on "The Wire" for a couple of weeks and has done relatively well. He finally was getting his work to the known world; until Exposé had to mess it all up.

This week Zach Mueller and Christen Gerhart went out of their way to completely insult every little thing about him.

His looks, his voice, the name of the trick, and his name were all poked fun at during this episode.

Watch the video here (Insulting starts around 20 seconds): http://tinyurl.com/72ob5dz

I couldn't believe this. After I saw this I felt so bad for Mr. Offenkrantz, I decided to purchase this trick, but when I got to "The Wire" shop, his trick was gone. My jaw dropped.

I decided to search for him on Theory11, and this is what I found: http://tinyurl.com/6pkv5j6

Under his picture it says "Alex has yet to release any tricks on The Wire."

They seriously insulted Alex so much, to the point where he decided to remove his content.

Why any company would flat-out insult someone who makes them money is beyond me.

I forgave them for the Monarchs, stuck with them after they threatened Evan, but this is un-excusable, and I have lost all respect I have for this stone-cold company.

They have ruined a hopeful magician which deserves absolutely no praise.

Playing Card Plethora / How many are left?
« on: December 01, 2011, 10:22:32 PM »
I was on DnD website, and when I tried to add 1000 decks of Fulton's (for the fun of it) it said  I could only purchase 576, so I figured that meant that's how many were left.

I did the same for the Fantastique decks, and it would only let me purchase 432, so again I figured that's how many were left.

I posted that was how many were left on here.

I did the math though and both of those are divisible by 12. 48 for the Fulton's, and 36 for Fantastique.

That is also weird though because both of those are divisible by 12.

Do you think this is how many of each deck are left, or is there just a deck/ brick limit?

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Jonathan Bayme
« on: November 25, 2011, 05:25:56 PM »
I was watching a YouTube video by a channel called "MyMagicStuff". He works for Ellusionist and was talking about how he got his job, but that's not the point. The point of this topic is he said sometime in his video "This is when Jonathan Bayme still worked here". I looked it up, and it is true, he did work for Ellusionist before resigning from his high authority, and founding Theory11. I was looking this up online and can not find any reason why he split. Does anyone know why?

The Conversation Parlor / T11 BLACK FRIDAY!
« on: November 23, 2011, 11:36:28 PM »
It's official, t11 is having some kind of holiday promotion. Someone posted on their Facebook if they had any White Centurions or Brown Wynn's stashed up. They replied with "Two words: - Black Friday! // jb."

The Conversation Parlor / What holiday do you celebrate in December)
« on: November 22, 2011, 11:35:55 PM »
I thought this would be interesting and a good way to get to know eachother.

I know people of many ethnicities from all around the world are on here, and I was wondering what holiday you celebrate?

Christmas? Hanukkah? Kwanzaa? Other?

I, as I assume most of the people on here, celebrate Christmas.

NOTE: This is not meant for people to force their religion or bash other cultures. This is purely for my curiosity.

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Touch by Hanson Chien
« on: November 21, 2011, 05:43:06 PM »
Now I haven't bought any magic tricks I'd say since September. After seeing this weeks episode of "Exposé" I decided to get touch, and man was I pleased. For only $7 it gave me one of my strongest effects I know. I always have a few bracelets on me, so walking around with rubber-bands on my wrist was nothing unusual. it is EXTREMELY visual and can be done impromptu for those "Hey, you're a magician, show me a trick" scenarios we always get.

The setup takes a couple of minutes to get down, but after watching the nine-minute video a few times, I can set this up in literally less then 3 seconds, and you can do it on an off-beat.

Overall I love this trick, and I recommend it HIGHLY!

Now I'm not gonna lie, I think these look pretty cool. I wouldn't buy it, but I think this would be a fun craft to make with my old decks.

The Conversation Parlor / Where's Brandon?
« on: November 20, 2011, 04:05:22 PM »
Does anyone know where he's been, or if everything is fine with him? I'm not asking because I want to know all of his business, and i'm not worried, but he used to post on here all the time, and I haven't seen him on here, or Facebook for a while. I'm just curious.

Playing Card Plethora / Casino Finish
« on: November 11, 2011, 08:20:24 PM »
I was just at a flea-market-esque place and I bought Two Streamline's, and Two Aristocrat casino decks for about $7. All of the decks were from the USPCC Ohio factory. First off, did I pay too much, but my real question is "What is Casino finish, and why is it so crappy?" Is there even any finish on it? Thank you.

I saw this deck once on eBay before, and I haven't seen it since. I'm talking about the picture on the top of the page. If anyone knows where i can get one of these, I would be very happy. Any help is appreciated.

I am not trying to spam with all these favorite topics, and if you'd like me to stop and remove these I gladly wii. I just find this interesting.

What are you favorite jokers. Mine without a doubt are the White Lions decks. They are just pure epicness.

Playing Card Plethora / Favorite Court Cards?
« on: November 08, 2011, 09:28:24 AM »
Since everyone loved the "Favorite Box" thread, I decided to make this one, what are your favorite court cards. For me, hands down it's the "Americana" deck. The blue hinge with shotguns, and the red bandits look amazing in my opinion. What are your favorite court cards?

The Conversation Parlor / What to do with my Destroyed Red Artifice?
« on: November 07, 2011, 10:47:03 AM »
I'm guessing this belongs in "The Talk Park" but feel free to move it as needed.

Alright so here's the story, when I received my brick of Red Artifice playing cards, I noticed three of the decks were damaged, I sent them an email, an what they said was quite surprising. I needed to send them pictures of the boxes cut in half, along with all the King and Queen's of hearts to be cut up in the same picture, so I did. It felt like smashing a brand new iPad, because although I didn't feel good cutting them up, it also felt awesome to destroy something so valuable. I've received my new decks, but I'm wondering what I should do with the three decks of Red Artifice (No, I won't send them to you). I was thinking of spreading them out all scattered and framing them. What do you guys think?

« on: November 06, 2011, 10:23:20 AM »
Now another hobby I have besides magic and card collecting, is mailing celebrities, and asking for their autograph. An idea that I'm having is to buy a blank face deck of playing cards, send each card out to a different celebrity, and get a deck of autographs!

•Johnny Depp
•Dick Van Dyke
•"Weird Al" (Next time I meet him)
•Gene Wilder

•Zach Galifianakis
•Billy Joel
•Stan Lee
•Seth MacFarline
•Bam Margera
•Adam West
•Sofia Vergara
•Steve Martin

•Robin Williams
•Larry David
•Clint Eastwood

•Sean Connery
•Danny Bonaduce
•John Travolta
•Cyndi Lauper
•Robert Pattinson

•...and TONS more

How does this idea sound to you, and who else should I send to?

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Forget magic tricks
« on: November 05, 2011, 08:45:05 PM »
Does anyone else ever stop doing a magic trick for so long they forget how it's done, and you CAN'T remember what it's called. I got like 20 Sankey DVDs from his BABOM and there was a trick where you fold a card in half, rip it in too, and I forget if that's the finale of the trick or the beginning.Does this happen to anyone else?

What is the best looking card box in your opinion. For me it's the "White Lions" decks, although I don't own any.

The Conversation Parlor / Vortex for Christmas!
« on: November 04, 2011, 07:30:48 PM »
I didn't pledge for any Vortex decks, because I was saving up money. I gave my mom my Christmas list and the next day I get an email from Kickstarter saying I'm a backer for the Vortex decks. I guess she forgot that when I got the Revision 1 deck, I linked the Kickstarter to my email.  ;D

You locked this page and redirected t here: http://aethercards.com/discourse/index.php?topic=364.0

But they are about totally different decks.

Here are some ideas for what you can do with it:
-When you're destroying your friend on COD or Gears or whatever, turn on Pure Smoke and make it seem like everything is fine, while they sit, awestruck.

-Using red smoke, do a color change from blue to red.

-Use it to age cards by performing a color change from a bike to an 1800's series. (Someone posted this on here already)

What are your Ideas?

Sorry I haven't posted in so long. I know it may seem like I got to 200 posts, then stopped coming here but that isn't true at all. Recently, my teachers have decided to go crazy with assessments. I literally have a test/ quiz every other day, and hours of homework on-top of that. When I can, I like to read the boards, but I usually can only read for a few minutes, until I need to go. I will try my hardest to keep contributing to this site as much as possible, but school comes first.

The Conversation Parlor / What got you into collecting?
« on: October 09, 2011, 09:05:56 AM »
This is my story.
A few years ago for Christmas, as a stocking-stuffer, I got a red Bicycle Jumbo-Index deck. I used it so much, and practically destroyed the box. After that I decided to look up cool decks of cards that lasted a while, looked cool, and that people liked. I got on BMPOKERWORLD and was amazed at all the different types of cards, but figured that no one collected cards. I looked up playing card collecting and didn't find much. Then one day I stumbled along Ellusionist. PEOPLE WERE TALKING ABOUT COLLECTING CARDS! It was so cool. Then once I found out about "Playing Card Selling and Trading, my whole life changed (Well Kinda).

Also, I think it's worth mentioning that a few years ago I called my brother an idiot, for paying like $7 for a deck of cards that looked cool. Look how the tides have turned.
