I was browsing Reddit and stumbled upon (irony, I know) a deck of cards apparently only sold in Japan.

It's clearly a Mario-themed deck. As an avid gamer of over 15 years, this is something I would love to add to my collection. Unfortunately it looks like they are bridge sized.

They clearly don't handle too well, but who cares? It's a duckin' Mario deck.

Those are sweet!! Reminds me of playing those on the old systems and the original gameboy! Oh nostalgia. Nintendo was actually a playing card company to begin with and then alter on became a video game company. I have always wondered what their original decks looked like, but I had no luck in the searching for them.

Even for a not super high quality deck, these are pretty duckin' awesome!!

Everything's custom! So much better than so many of the new releases these few years...

I should photograph my Atari deck.  All the cards look like screen captures from an old 2600.  Absolutely horrible quality, but it looks cute.

These are actually made by Nintendo.

There were actually 3 decks that came out...

I love the progression on these. The 8-Bit Bitmap look to Lineart Drawings to full 3d Renders.
Almost like the progression of the Mario games themselves.

Very cool!

Actually, when Nintendo first started out around the 1800's, they were a playing card company! They produced cards playing cards for a Japanese card game "Hanafuda", so technically without cards, Nintendo would not be here today.  :)

Really? They designed decks long before they made videogames. ::)

Yup, they have a pretty interesting history!! I really like those other two decks posted. Like Randy said, it's almost like the progression the games had. Very cool!

"Nintendo was founded as a card company in late 1889, originally named Nintendo Koppai. Based in Kyoto, Japan, the business produced and marketed a playing card game called Hanafuda. The handmade cards soon became popular, and Yamauchi hired assistants to mass produce cards to satisfy demand. Nintendo continues to manufacture playing cards in Japan[12] and organizes its own contract bridge tournament called the "Nintendo Cup"."

Plastic or not, these are a novelty. Plastic cards are actually amazing for card games with friends, too. I wish Nintendo made these in Poker size so I could pick some up. Using Bridge decks makes my hands freak out.

Although I have big hands, I still like bridge size decks better. I will definitely pick these up!

These would be mighty awesome to add to my small Mario Collection, I currently have a Mario figurine holding two decks of cards, some plushies, lots of games :P
Mystery is the basic appeal of magic. Once the secrets are known, the magician becomes a mere manipulator, an actor in a suspense drama which has little impact because the audience knows the ending in advance.

Well, @MrLukeCaroll, I don't have any video games. But I still LOVE Mario. Cuz he's italian.
BTW the link with all of Nintendo's playing cards didn't work for me. Weird...
