I'm happy to announce that after a long adventure and struggle, I will launch "Venexiana" on Kickstarter on Tuesday 16 July at 10:00 ET!

Thanks to everyone for your comments and support.

Great design. I'll post about it on my blog.

I love how you are going against the "crowd" and are giving another crowd funding site a chance.

I wish you luck.

It's some really beautiful work, Lotrek - definitely on par with your RSVP offerings.  I'm looking forward to getting a couple of them.

EDIT: can you tell us the difference between working with JumpStartCity and working with Kickstarter?

Hi Don, thank you!

Well, the main difference (for me) is that in order to launch on kickstarter I have to be a UK or US citizen, which I am not.

However there is more, as JSC has a number of new features boosting funding, which I'm not sure I can mention now, as I think they haven't been officially announced yet.
If the people who like my work take the time and create an account there, will be a success for me. Sometimes in the ultra-fast internet world, we are hesitant to do anything that takes a bit more than a click...

Great design. I'll post about it on my blog.

Thanks S.Carey!

Going against the crowd was in the beginning more out of need, but now I'm really excited about this.

World changes going against the crowd and doing things the "other" way. But this is how disaster comes sometimes as well! ;D

Have a look here:

http://agbeat.com/finance/jump-start-city-says-it-will-reinvent-crowdfunding/
http://www.t3.com/news/new-crowdfunding-site-creates-community-for-backers
http://technorati.com/business/finance/article/technorati-exclusive-the-jump-start-city/

The Technorati article showed a screen shot of the site - with Valor Playing Cards as a project!  That project failed TWICE at Kickstarter, despite the best advice we could offer its creator.  He insisted on doing it his way, all the way, and no one wanted it.  I can't imagine that's changed one bit...

Well, I guess this has to do with the creator's perception, not with the site's function... ;)

You don't love them or you hate them? :-D

I want the look to resemble the layout of the old Venetian books, where the pictures had thick borders. If I got right what you are referring to.

I personally hate thick borders, but I will say that if you are using them to be artistic then power to you! I'm not familiar with the art style of old Venetian books.

Perhaps it's just my aging eyes, but the image on the left appears a bit fuzzier - though it also looks like it has more color and fine detail.  Meanwhile, the one on the right looks like a more old-school design, simpler and elegant.

But both look to my lens-wearing eyes to have borders of the same width.  The difference must be fractional to the point of effectively nonexistent.

I think I like this one better.  The elongated "V" on each side seems more, I dunno, "formal" or something - which is good for this deck.  The use of color (when in focus) also I think is better.

One suggestion - if you made the "leafwork" in the corners the same color as the gryphons, they'd stand out more against the background.  You should try it both ways and see which looks better, if you haven't already.

Thanks Don, I already tried it, they're better this way I think. A minor detail anyway!

Your cards remind me of Emile Becat 1950.  Have you ever thought of maybe changing the reversible sides to make a simple story like this guy did?

oh sorry, WARNING nudity  or I think it's art....

I like the thinner borders but make sure that they are equidistant from the tops and the sides. It looks like the tops are closer to the edges of the card right now, thought it may be an odd optical illusion.

I'd go with optical illusion as well.  Either way, it's still just in the mock-up stages - I'm sure he'll check all the details before going to press.  He's done this before and know his way around the deck-making process.  Seriously, if you haven't already, check out "Timeless" and "Bicycle Butterfly".  Pretty...  :))
