A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Re: Picture of Jerry's
« on: January 04, 2013, 05:02:31 PM »
Hey, quick question.
If you were to compare the handling of a (relatively new) Jerry's deck with that of the Ace Fulton's Casino decks (Ivory and/or Cambric), what would your thoughts be?

Meh, no. I would say that the Cambridge ace fultons are more like golden nuggets. They have a thick tacky finish and tend to clump fast outta the box. It may be because I am in Georgia though and the humidity here is 90%, 90% of the time. The ivory I haven't used enough to compare. Mine are still as slick as when I opened them.

I would recommend the RED pr1me playing cards, its scary how much they feel like Jerry's.

Is that a Friar's Club deck I spy in the last photo?

I believe that is a deck of Friar's.

How would you compare the Jerry's with the Friar's?

Yep they are Japanese Friars. I love them. They are like cousins to Jerry's. The stock and texture are about the same but the finish handles different. Once broken in the friars are a dream. I think they are underrated(or a well kept secret).

Look close and you'll also spot a deck of dunes, which I would say are between Jerry's and golden nuggets. They predate both though being from 1964.

If y'all want some photos of dunes and friars I can post them.

Also, at this time neither the friars or dunes are for sale. Sorry!

In my opinion it is defiantly worth learning. However it will take time.

So, how does one learn defiantly?  "I'll learn this no matter how BADLY you teach it!!!  This, is, LEARNING!!!"  :))

Students get some awesome prices on software packages.  Instructors, too.

Simple, go Naked and you will. Or even better, wear a three piece suit with sneakers and a mowhawk. That should do it!
Friggen apple autocorrect. Should have been, Definitely.

This post. I have no idea what it is.

Still getting the hange of how y'all operate here with quotes.

I missplace the word definitely with defiantly in regards to learning. Don jumped on it and said he wants to learn this way (defiantly) and I responded with my defiant version of learning...I guess. Then (I dont know why) added some famous quotes that applied. Take it as you will.

Hi all, someone asked for photos of my Jerry deck. Here ya go.

Great thread!

Recently I was browsing YouTube tutorials and someone had posted chat roulette videos. They used it to practice, then posted the videos. I think this is a good precursor to performing in person, like the subway or park. Let you get over the shakes before taking to the streets. Hell, if you screw up just end the chat.

Thanks Don.

I don't mind waiting, I'm not going anywhere and I still have plenty of decks to use and things to do.
I feel they where upfront about it to begin with. Some got lucky and got them early. Is what it is.

My order is also still processing. Seems like quite a few of us are dealing with this.

It's a solo 12 mystery decks

Heads up, if you are a student you can get a MAJOR discount from adobe as well as many others. I always recommend this to friends and colleges getting into the field.

If not, look into the basic photoshop packages. You would be surprised. There are some simplified and cost effective options out there for you.

In my opinion it is defiantly worth learning. However it will take time.

It's all gonna come down to how soon you want to get the deck out there. I may considering hiring someone as Russell stated in order to be time/cost effective.

Scott, your not alone on the blue preference. I did the same when I was younger. Managed to shake that habit this go around, hope you do the same. There are some great reds out there. Hahaha pretty silly.

AuzzyDee- awesome, you'll rock it out in no time.  Of course anytime.

Well actual premiere could help you edit your demo video if you get a prototype made. Would be great for adding that extra touch to a kickstarter page.

AuzzyDee no problem, I love to help. It's a very original idea and I look forward to seeing your development.
I understand, just a concept/thumbnail. Gotta start somewhere.

Hey you should also check out dafont.com . It's a well organized library of fonts. Pay attention though because some are free and some require a donation or purchase(its based on honor system). If you have any questions about it let me know.

How familiar are you with the computer programs adobe photoshop and illustrator?

Good to have you. I am new too and in the same boat.

I agree with Don about this initial design. I would shoot for a two way back, I myself almost never buy a one way design.

I like seeing the use of type, its a new idea but feel you need to rework this concept. You may want to research font art for some inspiration. Some pretty cool ideas out there. Check these out ( I just googled "font art" and went to the image tab)

If you did something like the Jay-z image, mirrored, for the court cards that would be killer.

Keep going!!

Hi Frost,

If your patient and still interested I have a sealed deck of red Jerry nuggets I got from CARC. I was going to ask $300 for them but we can haggle. Also, I am currently away from home but will be back next week. If your interested I will make an official post for them. Just let me know.

I am new to the forum and rules so please bare with me. If this post breaks the rules, anyone, please let me know and I will repost.

66
Don, good to know. My dad is in medicine and use to do the same thing when his hands would let him so I know the drill. I also understand y'all don't know me yet....It's kinda like Internet dating, hah! The offer stand if you ever change your mind (They are still sealed and I can list and photograph them) ;)

Don and Alex, I would be happy to contribute to shipping cost with Dee1orean and others.

Ps. Check out my illustration website if you want more info on me, www.benkolozsi.com

67
Don, for the opened but new decks you could use ellusionists deck seals. I have acquired a couple sheets of them if your interested I would be happy to send them your way. Also let us know when your doing the drive and I would be more than happy to send a mix brick for this cause.

68
I think finding a (chronic) sick kid that's into cards/magic and donating them would rock. I know I have seen a couple deck reviews from exactly that. If I can figure out who it is I will send you am pm.

Kudos dude for the good heart.

Ps. I will even pay for you to ship them to her.

I gotta plug home...If you like low key, good BBQ and being able to walk around with a beer, check out Savannah Georgia. Its big on tourism so there is plenty of shopping, restaurants and stuff to see. Downside is the humidity is hell but its 15min from the ocean...also no card/magic shops. (anyone wanna team up and fix this?)

If you have the means check out the book "road trip usa" by Jamie Jensen. It has some great road attractions and killer routes that go coast to coast.

Don is right, check out Austin. It's a hippie town surrounded by red meat and guns. It's awesome!

I used up my points and got 12. I will also post my results.
Got my fingers crossed like everyone but we will see.

I also played the magic the gathering game...wait, why am I admitting this?!

Very interesting to hear everyone's take. I am big on art and for that alone I am drawn to the deck.
I would love to see all the artwork and not just part to get my finally opinion but with what's there I have to agree that it's inconsistent, tacky, haphazard...etc.
this makes me sad because there are parts I admire but not worth it as a whole.

Named Ultimate Deck
Design by Stranger and Stranger
Produced by Dan and Dave

Hi all, not sure if this has already been posted but I found a new deck coming out soon and have found almost no other info on it. Maybe somebody out there can help fill in the details.

Each card face has been created by a different artist (I assume) and it comes as a two deck set in a magnetic box. Gilded edges and tax stamped, its got all the bells and whistles.

Here is the link that I found on notcot.com as well as there write up
http://www.notcot.com/archives/2012/12/stranger-stranger-ultimate-deck.php

"Stranger & Stranger, you’ve outdone yourselves once again. Following their Holiday Spirits of the past few years, “to celebrate the year we broke out of our alcohol comfort zone and designed premium olive oils, fine foods, luxury luggage, and just plain crazy new stuff, we teamed up with the amazing Dan & Dave to create this, our Ultimate Deck.” And broke out of their alcohol they did! Previously, anyone who asked me for suggestions on alcohol packaging, i undoubtedly told them, Stranger & Stranger! Well it sounds like it has been quite the year for the incredible design group… and these cards (no surprise) are STUNNING, down to the tiniest of details! From the matte black magnetic box… to the velvety pouches… to the festive ambigram… to the seal on the deck… to the gilded edges of the deck… to the artwork adorning each card… it’s a magnificent deck of cards! And the quality is incredible, as are all Dan & Dave cards (like the awesome Fulton’s Clip Joint Playing Cards we wrote about previously)… take a peek at all the incredible details of Stranger & Stranger’s Ultimate Deck on the next page!"   -www.Notcot.com

Introduce Yourself / Olla
« on: December 23, 2012, 08:26:57 AM »
Hi everyone,

My name is Ben and I am a card and magic addict. I have been into magic since the show-n-tell days but had a falling out once I hit Jr. High. (That's about 20yrs ago)
Last Christmas I came across an article for Fulton's clips, ordered and have since developed a serious collection.

As well as cards I love art! In fact I am an illustrator and designer. I have been considering designing a deck and after researching, realized its imperative that I get involved in the community.

It's great to be here and I am excited to get to know y'all!
