Playing Card Plethora / Re: Another Steampunk deck!?!?

No offense intended to anyone. Here is my honest and raw opinion on the deck.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkqQND3y2ZE&list=UUViRo7y55XNLHYZ3S0dV-6A&index=1&feature=plpp_video
Yeah Im really embarrassed about this Ive gotten a handfull of other complaints about this deck, mostly about the color. I talked to Rajas a little bit ago and he attributed the bad finish to the low print run. I will be speaking to him again, I will be having to send out a few replacements, and in all I am not very happy. I didnt notice any color issues, the other joker is actually supposed to have a purple background ( its purple on kickstarter actually ).

Hmmm all good ideas. That mentioned I might have a second color of steampunk as another pledge tier for the deck. The ultra ape deck will be as open to suggestions as it always has been. I will defininantly use the draft idea, it will help the second launch be a success.

If you were to relaunched, I think a couple of things should be change. First of all, the Joker should say "Joker" and not "Jocker". Also it would be nice for you to show other court cards rather than launch a project with a project only half planned-out. Decks that succeeded in the past had a strong base of artwork already.
If you are printing through Brahma, a company far from being as reputable as USPCC, a low goal, some prices below 7$ per deck, and discounts for those who buy in big quantity and those who buy both the gold and the silver versions. Having a nice variety of pledges to pick from would be preferable.
Finally, if you're planning on staying true to your artwork and not making any changes, you should have as low of a goal as physically possible.
Sorry about the misspelling it was actually fixed by the time it reached the kickstarter phase, I didnt notice I had used such an old picture. Anyways I wouldnt mind changing the artwork a little bit.... again. I was planning to have the single deck pledge be a LOT lower now than it was before.

Nope just $3 shipping, I checked what it would cost me to send you a deck and its actually exactly 3$ for australia. ( Which is suprising, I think it actually costs me more to ship to canada. )

Ive sent out about half of them should be done hopefully by tommorrow. For future reference you can always ask on our forums at http://ultraape.com

Yup its time to reopen some old wounds. Im sure these are fresh in your guyses memories. Anyways, when the cards were released on kickstarter they had a great first day at over 600$, then a couple days later arguing erupted and they flatlined. Im wondering if you guys think its worth the shot. I was pretty devestated when it all happend.

The backs I personally think are pretty perfect, especially the silver backs. In fact I love the look of all these cards. What I think most peoples worries on these forums were that they were:
1. cheap cards
2. didnt care about monkies.
3. a few of you dont like the art and I cant change that.
4. too expensive

What were your worries about the cards? Do you think its worth a relaunch, we have other decks in the works, but somehow I still have hope for this one.

I have a lot of 60 steampunk playing cards ( yes steampunk by Reagan ) for sale.
These decks are
1. Badly shrink wrapped
2. have a dent on the edges of the box
3. simply misprinted
or
4. something else minor
None of these cards are horribly mamed, the worst of them have dented corners or similar levels of damage. Heres an image that shows one of my boxes of defective decks, the four on top are typical of what is average for these decks.

Anyways my decks for sale. Free shipping except for international buyers :)
1. Steampunk defective: $4 ( international buyers add 3$ for shipping) - 64 left
Bulk price: 20 decks $40 ( International buyers add 5$ for shipping )
2. normal steampunk deck $10 ( international shipping please add 3$)  - 40 left
  Bulk Price: 20 decks $100 ( international buyers please add 5$ )
3. Steampunk Gold deck $30 ( international buyers please add 3$ )      - only 8 left!

If you require any more images from me ill gladley accept. Also I will send you images of the exact decks Im going to send you if you require.

Alternatively you can buy the steampunk decks here: http://www.ultraape.com

Email: zpebody@yahoo.com

Don't destroy the decks. I love the idea of making it like a charity deck just like everyone else said. Give it to Don for his sweet children from the hospital. They will really appreciate it. Mark it. Maybe you want to use those UV markers, the ones that can only be seen in ultra violet light. At least that way it wont really ruin the whole look of the box but it will still be differentiated from the others. ^-^

Or you can use it as a giveaway. Post some contests and what not. It would be a great way to create more publicity for your company or whatever.

Anything buy throwing the cards away.

Thats a really good Idea, or I could write it in invisible ink or something, but Yea, Ill write extra instead of an x like nathancanadas said.

@Don You backed my deck right? I guess Ill just send these to that adress then. How many do you use? I guess youd be able to use all 65 eventually...

As someone who paid extra for a gold deck, I would have a problem with the extras getting out into the market without any distinguishing marks, but I don't see any reason to destroy them. I like the idea of giving them to Don.
Thats what I was considering doing by marking all the extras with a big red X, in permenant ink, on the actual box, not the plastic wrapping. ( cellophane I believe)

Hmmm good idea... However I needed to print 100, not because I wanted to I dont think it warrents an apology, as long as I dispense of them in an acceptable way. Ill think on giving them to don, hopefully Ill have enough money after shipping to do that.

Haters who hate, leave now please.

Anyways, Ive been thinking about this for a while, I have finished packaging all of my product that is being shipped out ( I just need to print th elabels and we should be good to go, probably have them shipped tommorrow ) . Anyways I discovered something, I have quite a few bent / sorta messed up decks I need to get rid of ( close to 50 ).

The biggest issue is that I said Id only print 35 of the gold decks, but I had to print around 100. This is where I need your guys help, should I just burn them all, which would look cool out of respect to my backers, or take off the cellophane wrapping and mark them with a big red x in permanent marker, and sell them as throw away decks?

13
Thatd be pretty cool, id help out. If you needed me.

14
Is it bad when I say the santa backs arnt... horrible? I hate everything else about the deck, and especially the giraffes btw.

15
Art looks nice, but honestly I don't like the way it doesn't match up. Stuff like the cape just kind of dead ends in the middle of the card.

Actually, that's in the style of early "two-headed" court cards.  That's how they used to look at first.  Look at these images from a classic Bavarian tarock deck:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1a/Schafkopf_Tarock_bayerisches_Bild.jpg

I think it looks cool so far. The king sort of reminds me of hakumen from blazblue a little, which is pretty dope

I'm rather fond of that layered-armor look!

Here's a look at a design that's under consideration as the card back.  It may or may not end up as the back, and could possibly become something else - maybe a joker or a gaff card.  It reminds me of something Lovecraftian, personally...

By the way, in the event you were wondering where all this came from and why I'm passing it to you, it's because I'm now the US Project Manager for Brahma Playing Cards!  The paperwork hasn't been finalized yet, but I'm working for Rajas when I'm not at my night job, promoting his company and their products to the marketplace.
Wow, congradulations...

The Conversation Parlor / Re: WalMart - Good, Bad or Ugly?

I work at walmart, the thing is they refuse to pay anyone but managers a full time wage. Probably so they dont have to provide health care or whatever. They just hire twice as many part time people. Its really a shitty company. If you want to live own and tyou work at walmart you are forced to work two jobs, and they start you off at minimum wage. Also the people that are customers there are generally jerks, and dont make the job worth 7.50$ an hour at all.

My sister-in-law worked for them for a while when they were pretty much the only ones hiring.  Even working in management, she saw the writing on the wall and realized the job was doing little more than almost keeping her afloat and keeping her too busy to even think straight (she worked the '11/'12 holiday season there, missed a lot of family face time).  She quit for the sake of her health and sanity.
Im pretty sure this is the same thing with a lot of retailers, but another problem with walmart is the jobs you get are endless monotony, that you are forced to work at high speeds. At the end of the day I cannot have a full conversation with anyone ( even best freinds ) for at least a few hours, because my brain has had the life sucked out of it.

Are you serious, they have $1500 already? <goes and checks>

OK, it's $1200 right now, with 36 backers. So there are 36 human beings, with brains and eyes, in the world that think this is acceptable? I'm stunned. Personal tastes or not, there is a base-level to all art that provides a foundation of quality that personal opinion adds too. This has no foundation of any kind and it is hugely sad that there is so little concern for creating a basic quality product, and even sadder that people will spend money on such poorly considered design. Maddening!

I guess there is no real need for me to actually design and work out details of my next deck. I can slap standard courts cards on it, pick some fonts to put on the box and call it a day. You heard it here first!

Aurum (Crap Edition) will be available next week! :)

I completely agree. With that statement, I felt there was this somehow deep-lurking challenge to turn utter crap into something that could have potential. I don't know why I did it, compulsions are like that I suppose, but I felt like sharing my take on this terrible train wreck... Took me all of 10 minutes during a bout of utter boredom.

You may NOT use this image without my express written permission!

Now that card back is mystical  :P
Thats actually really kinda good looking.

I continued our argument In my design and development topic. Link ---> http://aethercards.com/discourse/index.php?topic=2097.new#new

Ok so I thought Id continue this little argument with bmpokerworld and others here.
Quote
No I have actually handled them and I am not impressed. In fact if they were so good, I would have people clamoring for me to stock them which has not happened. I do not make wild allegations about products without first hand knowledge. The real point was he is, in my opinion, making an inferior deck and criticizing someone's deck in the process.

Too many times, too many people ignore the facts and just plain lie on this forum to suit their own needs. Perfect example yesterday Nathancards says" he is printing 5000 at $1.50 per deck is his cost. Where does he come up with that number? Under ReaganM' Stage 2 post, he clearly states the decks are costing him $5100 for all the decks. So last time I went to school, $5100 for 5000 decks is about a $1.00 per deck and no where near $1.50 per deck. So lets do the math shall we?

Take the median price per deck which is $8.00, $8.00 x 5000= $40,000
Cost for decks                                                                          - $5100
Postage (including label) and bubble wrap                               -$6562.50
Kick starter fees & amazon fees  15%  ($40,000 x 15%)          -$6,000
                                                                             Total Profit    $22,337.50

Will he see all that profit right away? Probably not. But make no mistake, he is not using Brahma for any other reason other than they are the cheapest. So I am not sure why you keep defending that there is some other reason. He knows nothing about playing cards. When he initially posted, he said he could get Kem made for $5.00 per deck. When he was told he was incorrect, did he say, oh I just thought that is what they would be? No he said " I been down this road before and I know how much they cost". Well clearly he hasn't. He has no idea what quality is, just look this post:

"Unfortunantly, these will not be KEM like bycicle prestige"

He doesn't even have a clue that Kem and Bicycle prestige are 2 completely different animals. But yet you keep defending the reason he is using Brahma despite the fact that clearly he can not tell the difference between one deck of cards to another and despite that he already stated why he bought the decks; "Because he got a better deal" period. Those are his words not mine.

He clearly is only worried about the money and that is it. If he wasn't he would sell them for less. Keep defending him despite that there is no proof to your point of view and clearly substantial proof for my point of view. What is that proof? His own posts.
Thanks!

Ill try to adress all these concerns in one post.
1. you dont like the decks thats fine. But a lot of people consider them the best.
2. The cost with 5100$ was the cost for the quantum grain finish decks, I I messed up when I posted that. I have the quote and the cards will  be around 1.50$
3. You say I am only in it for the money because I went for a cheaper deck ( which I believe to be of great quality ) which is slightly cheaper than 20$+ kems.... hmmm.... Yeah Maybe I jumped the gun a little bit I thought the kems would be around 5$ based on the few manufactureres Ive dealt with, oops.
4. But I am cheap because I could have gone for plastic, well the cards and finish I chose behave like plastic are as durable as plastic and yet are paper and flourish like a god, how cool is that.
5. I was also misinformed about the kem and bicycle prestige thing. I was led to beleive that bicycle bought kem and so bicycle prestige decks were just kems with a bicycle back.
6. Also If I was only in it for the money, why the hell would I spend so much time on this deck? Why spend so much time preforming minute tweaks?
Unfortuanantly though when I started this project It looked like it would succeed ( first day got 600 bucks not bad ) but when these arguments started popping up The project flatlined. Im going to have a lot of work ahead of me to try and see it succeed now.

@ Bmpokerworld : I really wanted to stay out of this but we will be getting a prototype deck soon, this should answer any questions on quality.

Also about the chinese manufacturer, I really didnt know much about cards back then and I am still learning.
