Hi,

I've produced a number of RPG related decks of playing cards. And while the main draw is the text on the cards, we've been lucky enough to have some very high quality suit symbols thanks to an artistic backer who stepped up to design them for us.

As such, we've grown used to having excellent fantasy suit symbols displaying the themes of each suit; as have our backers. But now that backer is indisposed, and we have no idea if/when he'll be in a position to do a new set. I've tried sites like Fiverr in the past, and even artists who were clearly skilled at other tasks just couldn't pull off the detail at such a small scale in such a specific form.

So what we need is an artist who can convey the following meanings within suit symbols, meeting the quality visible here. Spades=Location, Diamonds=Treasure, Clubs=Dangers and Hearts=Characters/Inhabitants.

I figure that if I'm going to find someone who can pull off intricate artistry at the size of suit symbols my best bet is a place such as here, with people who do that for their own decks. :-)

If you can point me at an example of previous work, and provide me a quote for this sort of work, it would be appreciated.

Indeed, I am Mr. Coffey.

Yeah, I expect limited interest here. But limited is not necessarily none, and it's always worth a shot :-)

I thought you might like the back :-)

I'll have to look into doomtown a bit. I've thought about doing an LCG before, but the idea of having one based around playing cards is rather intriguing :-)

Location Cards are a pair of decks with a gimmick (although some would argue that the fact they're a deck of playing cards is the gimmick  ;) )

Every card describes a different fantasy location, for use in games, storytelling and (apparently) teaching. One deck is urban locations, and the other is rural ones. They also share a single back but have easily distinguishable fronts, allowing them to be shuffled together and separated easily.

And, here's the full set of suit symbols from our resident supreme backer/artist:

I'll try and stick around to answer any questions you may have. If you're interested, the Kickstarter is here

I wish this guy had some clue what he was doing, because I've got a couple of furry, poker-loving, friends who would really appreciate anthro playing cards.

Aside from the kickstarter being badly set up the fact that all four suits have the toe-dots exactly the same is disappointing, and makes them look too similar. Making them look like paw prints from different species (ie. wolf on one, cat on another) would make it easier to tell apart. You wouldn't even need four kinds, just wolves and cats would do (red and black makes it easy to visually distinguish anyway)

Sorry about that, I failed my search check (aka I failed to actually use the search function :-( )

I don't have the money to be an anything collector atm, but given how awesome some of the decks I've been seeing are I'm very tempted to join your ranks once I do :-)

Is there a card back design?
I know these cards have a lot of text to them, but it would be nice to have a little imagery like on collector cards.  A troll here and there wouldn't hurt.
Unfortunately we had to make a choice between art and text, and there are people who can do the art side far better than us.

While personally I didn't like Tavern Cards art, it was still far better than mine, and Creature Cards were just awesome :-)

On the cardback, we're actually going to be having the backer's vote on which of several cardbacks we've commissioned to use after the kickstarter ends.

The vote will probably be between

(either with or without the text; I prefer without)

and a third one I've just commissioned.

I thought we already had a third one, but it turns out that it was made using an image with Non-Commercial Use Only licensing... while it may have been represented to me as an original creation, I still can't use it.

Having browsed through your collecting lists, I know that my deck is not even close to your normal choice.
It's being produced at a small press... and it's not about the art at all.

It's a deck of cards where each one describes a unique character from fiction. It's primarily aimed at roleplayers and storytellers, rather than card collectors; but it is a deck of cards and therefore there's a chance you may find it interesting.

The design has improved a lot since we first launched, see below for some samples

If this interests you, check it out now. The Kickstarter ends Friday.
