Vortex Kickstarter Campaign.

Actually Alex, you're the reason I'm here. I did a google search looking for Pure Smoke and found the topic where you were selling one. Thought it was a cool forum and lurked for a while and finally made an account. I'm glad I did because I've learned a lot and been kept up-to-date on releases. If I knew anyone that wanted to get into collecting, I'd point them this way. So I guess I'd just like to say thank you for brining me here.
-
Google Search. Backed my 1st Kickstarter card project last year around this time (Allure) and wanted to start collecting. I then wondered if there were forums out there talking about playing cards. Found this place and UC. This place has provided tons of information to help guide my collecting.
-
Google, was just starting my collection and was looking for information on playing cards..........1st place I visited and I'm still here.
-
Vortex deck Kickstarter
-
Google search on the secrets of the Legends deck when I was looking into other marked decks.
-
First, when I was not even a n00b yet, I searched for black playing cards and found Ellusionist. That eventually led me to Theory11, D&D, etc. From there, I was inspired to search for more custom playing cards and found some Kickstarter deck projects, still in their infancy - at the time, three projects up at once was a big deal. It was there I found the Vortex deck, which led me to here, my home away from reality! :))
-
Rep has been handed out! You guys rock!
-
I don't know... heard about some random dude named Alex and a vortex deck. Signed up a few days after the forum was running, became a mod a week later. Here we are over 2 years later.
-
The Discourse was mentioned on a KS project. I was trying to research ideas for a project that I want to do, and decided to join in.
-

Me too. First I've tried youtube to search for a few decks review. After that, Google, because some reviews on youtube kinda sucks. Love to hear from real users how they think about this decks. Love to be here! :D Don helped me a lot, including when I got a little spanking from him. :D
-
Same way as Sparkz. I came across it on google when I started collecting. I was trying to learn a couple of things about cards and BOOM here I am now haha
-
I actually found out about the forum through UC. They accused me of asking about some decks that I apparently had asked on here too lol
It was Brook Michael who accused me and then started ranting and threatening. I took it to the mods who, instead of investigating it, more or less carried it on and backed him up lol he seemed so adamant to meet me to "sort me out" so I gave him my address and number .. Kinda offended he hasn't come lol
Anyway, ever since I've joined, I've never gone back to that forum. This is my home!!
-
Somehow I found out about the kickstarter campaign for the vortex deck and alex. And he made this forum and I was noob and so I joined.
-
It was in an update to a Kickstarter campaign.
-
Hi! I found you guys on a google search. (Looking for a better environment than UC)...

Hi! I found you guys on a google search. (Looking for a better environment than UC)...
UC should be changing for the better, now that it's under new management.
But regardless, there's plenty of UC people who hang out here as well - so, welcome!

I found out about the Discourse around the time Russell Kercheval launched his Brimstone deck campaign on Kickstarter. That was a slippery slope... ???

Don, maybe I could've been clearer. I meant it was a slippery slope for me! That $5 pledge for a Brimstone deck led to hundreds more. ;)

Now THAT makes more sense! :)) I think that was my first KS deck, while my first custom decks were a big batch of everything from E, back when Arcane was still something new.
-
I believe it was a vjose32 video that brought me over here. After lurking for a while, I decided to make an account and join in on all the fun! Learned a lot already.
-
When I had only just got in to playing cards, I was watching a lot of deck reviews. I was actually searching Google for the worst decks of playing cards and I found a video by Alex detailing his least favourite decks. Right at the start there was a link to the discourse so I followed it & arrived here.

That's really cool that people still watch my channel. I crapped my pants when I saw how many views that specific video had. o_o

Now I can find you here and it won't be long before I see you in Charleston! We are expecting a good crowd, many new ones through Discourse. Keep checking this site out through the "Plethora" AND of course in "Cellar of Fine Vintages" - you can probably add some good comments.

Pictures can be added to a post two ways, but the preferred method from my perspective is to attach pictures to your post, uploading them with your message. You'll see in the "Post Reply" screen an area just below where you type your message there are controls there for attaching images. You can attach up to five to a single post using a variety of formats (listed) and each image file can be as large as 5,000 kilobytes. I recommend pictures be a bit smaller, since for a web page, an image that size is REALLY big, bigger than most screens can handle without zooming out.
While you're here, please, stop by the "Introduce Yourself" board and make a new topic for yourself so the rest of the gang can give you a proper welcome!

Even though I've been here a while, might as well say vjose32 on youtube frequently mentions this unknown entity known as "the forums" in his reviews and one day after searching for a random deck I came upon this site, which I figured was the forum. After I realized the forum could answer some of my questions and I could offer my own opinion on topics, I decided to join.

Hi,
Im Tade. One of my kickstarter backers suggested I check out this forum. Kindly show some support for my playing cards project! Any donations or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I was on Google looking up cards and coins as usual and came across this forum. :)
-
I've found PlayingCardForum via Unitedcardists. Angel_Magic has mentioned it in the post and I've turned to check :)
-
Rose told me about the forums because of my recent Kickstarter (enyka.does.it).

Hi everyone! My name is Mark Wright, I am the creator of Maven and I was referred by a backer on my Kickstarter project. I am a long time lurker on these sites and Uc and such.
Just a quick intro about me if your interested. I am 32, I love mathematics, magic and motorcycles. I have studied art most of my life and received honors and awards all along the way. I served in the Navy to get the money to study art. After getting out I moved to South America to do this project. I know the art is a little strange ::) but that was on purpose. I figured if I was going to go all the way to another continent to make a deck I would make it as interesting as possible. I wanted to play with the symmetry that old school print makers created and which later morphed into the recognizable forms we are all familiar with. If you want to learn more you can check this link herehttps://www.kickstarter.com/projects/336695519/duality-a-new-deck-of-cards-from-maven-playing-car
Well I just wanted to say hello. Feel free to comment me or pm. I may be slow to respond but I will write back. I will be posting more art in the following days so you guys can also follow me if you feel so inclined.
Nice to finally say hello.--Mark

If you have a question that searching the boards couldn't answer, please speak up and let us know. We're a friendly bunch and happy to lend a hand!
Make yourself at home.
-
Thanks for the warm welcome, I appreciate it. Yes you guys are pretty friendly over here :D
-
Google search, I think :) But it wasn't on the first line, so it was a little research before I get here. I don't know why, but I don't like UC. Here is just fine, great people also!
-
Hi, im krisnapati new member... i heard about this forum from my friends :D Ade suryana and he suggest me to join because this will help me a lot in playing card news.

Another Google search...Looking for a place to sell my late father's magic, card and dice collection.

Searching on Google for info about collecting playing cards :D
-
Like so many others, it was Google for me. I'm starting to drop a scary amount of money on decks (well, not compared to what I can tell SOME of you guys spend, but disposable income is scarce in my household!). I collected coins for 30 years, so I know the importance of a good "insider" forum. Found 52PlusJoker through Google, joined, and here I am. You folks are a goldmine!

I'm very glad to hear that. We strive to be a valuable resource to the community of playing card collectors. Don't be afraid to ask questions - how else will you get answers? :)) Just don't spend the rent money on that shiny new pack, 'cause you can't live in a tuck box, especially with over 50 roommates...
-
I'm not exactly sure since it was a few months ago but maybe through the 52+J website or through google as I was researching playing cards.
-
I was told about the forums by Lee Asher.

I was told about the forums by Lee Asher.
How do you know Lee? I met him a few years ago in Toronto. He's a big help around here and with CARD CULTURE Magazine.
-
I met Lee thru his website and we have been emailing back and forth the last few days about my likes and dislikes. He is a pretty awesome fella.
-
I think I was googling Oak Leaf Back when I came across this site first. I lurked for a few months before registering.

I love when we pop up high in Google's search results for most things playing cards!
We're glad to have you - all of you!

Thanks for welcoming everyone !
Makes me feel appreciated. :)
I was told to come here by John Bruckerhoff at a lecture in Kansas CIty.
I'm a cardist and most of my stuff (except tricks) can be found on instagram! @slater_scranton
I'm a huge supporter of the magic community and I am looking forward to being apart of this forum!

Why would you want to be apart of us when you could be a part of us? :))

I was introduced to PCF by Lee Asher. We've been friends since the mid 1990's in Vegas. We've torn up and thrown away more Jerry's Nuggets than most people will ever see. I'm not proud of that, but it's true. It's cool to see the boom in collecting and happy to be in at this time.
-
I was searching for infos about a deck and then i got directed into this here :))
-
I decided to join this forum after I joined 52 Plus Joker. But I think I had stumbled upon it once or twice when googling various playing cards.

Hi everyone! I just recently found your forum through an article in the Society of American Magicians magazine. Great article! I'm now registered and looking forward to growing with the group and of course, my collection. Tommy
-
I just searched for, "playing card collectors forum" on Google, to see if there were any groups of collectors. This site was the first to come up, and I'm glad it did.
-
I was introduced to the forum when I joined 52+Joker. I love reading all the posts here; I will get more involved and interactive soon!
-
Good ol' Google!
-
I actually came across your forum when pledging to the 'Right of Kings' game project on Kickstarter. I have my own animated card game project going on Kickstarter right now, so it seemed like a great place to hang out and learn what what others are doing. :)
-
New/back into playing card collecting. Found 52+ Joker through a Web search. Got here from there. Excited to start learning and growing in the hobby.
-
I used google and found 52+Joker and made it here.

Hello. I've been researching my late father's passion after he left me his rather large collection of playing cards. He was a very enthusiastic collector and was known as a card producer himself. His name was Karl Gerich and I'm sure some of you know his work? I would love to know more about the subject if anyone has anything they think would help me and my sister learn more about his interest in playing cards. Thanks

Was your father a member of 52 Plus Joker? It's a club based in North America that unites playing card collectors of all stripes. It has a membership worldwide and owns and runs this forum.
I wasn't aware of your father's work until I just looked it up now. He did some incredible artwork, really lovely cards.

Hi. No he wasn't a member as far as I am aware. He was a member of the EPCS and when his health was OK went to their meetings occasionally. He stopped producing cards in the nineties due to poor mental health but still collected vintage decks. He wasn't very internet aware so no forums or things like that which is a shame I think he would have loved it!

If you think the forum's great, you should see the 52 Plus Joker Club's annual convention! This October, we're holding it in Erlanger, Kentucky, a suburb of Cincinnati. The city's claim to fame in the playing card world is that it's the headquarters of the United States Playing Card Company (USPC), who have kindly agreed to offer attendees a factory tour - it's sure to be a major highlight of the convention weekend.
-
Sounds great. Maybe I'll have to check it out one day

"Google" Searching for information on how to date decks of vintage Kem cards and their holders. My search lead me to a post by a member, dated 2014. Very informative. However I still had a couple more questions. By joining I am now able to contact the author and ask my questions.

Somehow stumbled upon it while looking for certain decks on google

I'm at work, wearing my CF-18 Canada 150 shirt, when one of my coworkers says, "Love your shirt!" (He's a plane enthusiast.) I told him I bought it in Ottawa on July 1st (2017), at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. I also told him I bought a nice deck of cards there as well, and that the deck had a different plane on each card. He said, "Cool." I told him I collect cards and that I have over 175 decks. He said, "I didn't know you collected playing cards." I said, yup! I then told him that I'm now looking to buy older decks. He then tells me about decks that were made during the war. The decks had plane identification symbols on them so that the guys could learn them and still have something to pass the time with. I thought that was really cool! So I did a Google search for them. I found many images, but one caught my eye and I clicked on the link to it's host website ... and I got this forum! LOL!

Interesting story!
The kind of deck you're thinking of is called a "spotter deck." They were pretty common in World War II, less so going into the Korean War, and I don't think they were still making them by the time the Vietnam War was being fought. They made them for ships at sea as well as for aircraft. The basic idea was that with all these new recruits going off to war, playing cards were a common pastime that fit in a shirt pocket, ideal for someone on deployment, so why not make packs that educated them as well as entertained them? You played with them often enough, you got to learn the silhouettes of the common enemy and Allied crafts without even thinking about it.
Welcome to the club!

I had found club 808 through a friend and had ordered some decks. I’ve always been a fan of forums for learning and figured there had to be one based on cards. Did a google search and ended up here.

Glad you found us. We're not the only forum out there for playing cards, but we're probably the largest, and the only official forum of 52 Plus Joker - North America's premier society of playing card collectors. If you have any questions, please, feel free to ask.

I just googled for “Playing Cards Community” and found this forum on top of the list.

Hello, Rod,
We have an entire message board that's dedicated to vintage (at least 20 years old) and antique (at least ~100 years old) playing cards - it's called "A Cellar of Fine Vintages." I'd recommend going to that message board, reading some of the posts people have created, and perhaps making a few of your own where appropriate. You can also create original topics for things like deck discussion or showing off your collection. We'd welcome hearing from you!
-
I was looking for information on an old deck of playing cards, so I Googled "playing card forum", and fortunately found your group.

Found it via a google search when researching on 'How to spot fake Bee cards'. Sent me to a topic in PlayingCardForum... Nice!

I was googling how to design a custom deck of cards. :)

I am looking for other collectors of playing cards,
for collector exchange.
That's why I searched Google for various texts.
Among other things, the text
"I am a collector of playing cards, forum"
... and that's how I got here.

Hi everyone! It's Gist here based in london and small card collector. I found out about the forums through some associates and reddit. I am involved in design new cards concepts.

Was just browsing the web trying to find a decent playing card forum in contrast to United Cardists (🤢🤮) and discovered this! 😀

It's been a while since I've headed over to UC - they're not all that bad. I know the guy who runs it, he's a 52+J member. We tend to be more polite, while they tend to get more posting traffic.
-
My friends Phil Bollhagen and Matt Schacht led me to the club. They both mentioned it many times, and Matt referenced several newsletter articles, and I finally got curious enough to check it out. I signed up for a one year membership and was instantly hooked on all the great content. I just signed up for another 3 years!

Welcome to the forum, DJ!
I looked you up on the club roster, saw you are a member and upgraded your account here to 52 Plus Joker Member. You now have access to the Members' Only board as well!
Looking forward to seeing you at next week's CONVENTION! :))

Sorry you missed that one - it was a virtual convention. The next 52+J convention will be in mid-September in Niagara Falls, NY - I'm really looking forward to that one, since it's in my home state. If you can't attend, there will be a mix of virtual and live in the events, so you have a chance to get in on the action - more details forthcoming.

Hi,
I just recently got a bit more serious on collecting, looking it the history of playying cards and wanting to find out about the current designers and things like that and on my travels I found 52+ Joker and then signed up to the forum from there.
I'm hoping to find some advice on starting an antique collection, I've currently only got modern decks but after reading paper empires Id like to get some cards from the manufacturers in that book.
