Poll

What is your opinion regarding the extra card w/credits?

Regular backs on both, credits on one in small print, AC ad on the other.
Credits on both sides of one in medium-sized print, AC ad on the other with regular back.
Credits on three sides in regular print, AC ad on the fourth.
I really couldn't give a flying fig and have no opinion - do what thou wilst.
I want something different, and I'll describe it in a post below...

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

  • Facebook:
Alex said we could advertise if we used his standard ad card design.  The general consensus was yes, let's do that.

But what do you think of the basic idea?  Using ad card surfaces for credits and making a simple, elegant back?

I love the idea of a simple elegant back. its like:

**person sees tuck case with the back design**
"Back design looks nice and clean ^-^"
**person opens box and pulls out cards and flips it over**
"Awww, what a cute joker!"
**Spreads the deck**
"WTF!!!!!!!!!!! This is the CRAZIEST deck EVAH! who'd have thought...>.>...."

but yeah. you get the gist. I love the idea of a nice clean back design and insane face designs.

So Don, you want to throw out the idea of the names on the back and the names on the AoS?

Here, I guesss I'll butt into the conversation:
1) I love the jokers, I was about to suggest that you make a purple and a blue one, each reflections of each other, but since you've already done that, I think it is perfect and fits perfectly the them of the deck.
2) I think the the Ace of Spades should be made out of our complete names all put together, but the back shouldn't, and here's why:
- If both are created based on the same concept, they will reflect each other too much and this will bring down the "craziness" of the deck.
- The back should be very eye appealing, so spreading through the backs of the cards will be fun.
- I believe that the ace of spades should also containt the word "Discourse" written in red, in the middle of it.
3) Alex will take care of the ad card.
This is what I think, and I completely agree with Lara Krystle Lane:
**person sees tuck case with the back design**
"Back design looks nice and clean ^-^"
**person opens box and pulls out cards and flips it over**
"Awww, what a cute joker!"
**Spreads the deck**
"WTF!!!!!!!!!!! This is the CRAZIEST deck EVAH! who'd have thought...>.>...."

Just made this back. I'm not sure what I think of it, but I think it looks clean. Tell me your opinions, advice on anything to change OR if I need to throw it in the trash and burn it.

P.S. there's a subtle 'D' which shouldn't be too hard to see  ;D ;D

Ok. that is a great idea, but I still think there should be a subtle, but nice background behind this. Great idea, tho!

You can also try a shade instead of a tint of citron for the "D's" because the contrast against the white is a little too harsh to the eyes.... or maybe its just me ^-^. Maybe color the background something neutral intead of the #ffffff color.

Basically, what I mean is that, would you see yourself fanning through these cards? How would it look? We need to make sure fanning and spreading would look nice. Also, I think that on the faces of the cards, in the right corners, there should be a little something, like for the Steampunk deck. Each something can be different and represent the face of the cards, and this would make fanning through the cards much nicer!

I just tried putting a fanned deck of cards behind it, changed the opacity etc and it looks like crap. Basically you can make out a shape, but other than that it's a blurry mess. If you want a simple pattern, it won't be too awesome looking for fanning.... unless you have no borders

Which is why I think we should have something in the corners on both the faces and the backs.

What about doing the back something like a Mondrian painting?

The grids could be white or black and the boxes could be varying shades of the
Discourse dark blue. I could be symmetrical and a couple boxes could have very
subtle type that says "Design & Development" and a couple other boxes could
have "Discourse". It would almost be like a visual representation of a forum itself.

thanks, Randy

That's a great idea! I'll try doing something like that next. So the boxes would be varying shades of blue and varying sizes? I kind of get what you're saying, could you do a quick sketch just to clarify?
EDIT: I didn't see the picture at first. I love the idea, I'll try it in a second.

I just did this... I hope you guys see this too, the optical illusion I just made. It looks like ripples or waves in the card!!  ;D

Much better!
But:
1) We should have discourse written out somewhere
2) We should have indexes in the corners
3) Maybe a background so they look nicer than bees?

Yeah I'll work on the discourse. And indexes in the corners of the back? Why?  ::)

So it looks nice in the corners when we fan the cards, just like the Steampunk deck.

Okay, but in the steampunk deck, the corners are part of the design, so if you compare it to mine, it would be like the corner 'D's are the indexes. Do you want me to add something in place of them? Or just around them.

It doesn't matter, whichever one looks nicer. I also think that on the faces of the cards we should have some, each one representing the whole face of the card.
I also wanted to say this:
I don't think we should have our signatures on the bottom of each of the cards we design because we will all contribute in a way or another to this deck, no matter if we actually designed the cards or not. I think the ace of spades with our signatures is enough.

Everyone involved in this and who has Skype should have a Skype meeting, or even Google+ hangout meeting. It'd be a lot faster and easier to communicate  :-*
