The Conversation Parlor / New computer desk
« on: October 12, 2013, 09:57:44 PM »
I am currently changing up the design of my room a bit and built a new desk this week (Ikea). I really like how it turned out. Does anyone else have a cool setup for their computer?

Playing Card Plethora / Re: What are your buying "Rules"
« on: October 09, 2013, 10:57:32 PM »
I don't really have an set rules, it just depends on the mood I am in and if a deck really catches my attention. I tend not to purchase any kickstarter decks anymore, besides Jackon Robinson's since it's impossible to say no to his decks. I am more interested in finding decks with a cool history, whether they are vintage or new and had something unique behind their release.

Those back designs are awesome! Time to scrounge up some more money to throw at another Jackson Robinson kickstarter.

Just for fun, I entered and got Tier 4 at $260. That was at 9:00:02.

Same time as me. You and I are tier 4 buddies.

I got a tier 4. @ 260... really strongly debating the purchase

Did u end up purchasing? Only a 3 minute time frame to purchase. I stayed up for this, I need to sleep lol

Nah, was a really tough decision.. but decided against it. I have car insurance coming up in a few days... and 260 bucks helps cover a decent portion of that.

I just merged your new topic with the other thread about your deck. Changed the title of the topic as well. Good Luck with the new KS campaign!

I only wish I could have checked my JN deck to make sure.... unfortunately I don't have one. The font they use on that deck is pretty recognizable, even if it is upside down. It did confuse me at first though.

I had dabbled with collecting playing cards in the past, nothing major. Collecting cards came from a combination of my love for magic when I was younger and my general need to collect stuff ( I have always had a collection of some sort growing up ). Around the time Alex started up this forum was a little after I had decided to really dive into collecting cards, I thought this forum was going to be a great tool for knowledge so I decided to participate right off the get go. Soon after, Alex asked me to help Moderate and the rest is history.

#5 is a Jerry Nugget deck

I don't really have any personal attachment to decks in my collection but there is one deck that does relate to the start of my collection. When the red artifice deck was being released, it was around the time that I really started looking to collecting playing cards. With all the hype around that deck, it became really important to me to have that deck in my collection. During the release day, when the server kept crashing, I remained vigilant and after over 9 hours, I managed to get my order through of 7 decks. It was a pretty satisfying moment. Because of that purchase, I managed to fund a lot of my current deck collection through resale of the RA and that is why that deck stands out to me more than other ones.

My most beloved deck right now is Ornate Scarlet  ;D

I am sure Randy will be pleased to hear that. Welcome to the forum, feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions or concerns. Enjoy!

Hey Guys,

I have a few random decks from my collection that I would be willing to trade for other decks that my collection is lacking. Thought it was worth a shot to see if any members of the forum were looking for any of the decks that I have a few extras of.

Here are the decks:

In order from left to right:
RJRTC "watermelon" red
RJRTC "watermelon" blue
Black Crown
Fulton Chinatown
Magic Con v2
White Monarch
Fantastique
Vortex
Big Guns red
Big Guns blue
Red Crown v1

I live in BC, Canada, so all of my decks would ship from there. I have all over the world and never had any issues, so we can deal with shipping on a case by case process.

I am looking for decks that I don't have in my collection, I'll make a list here and add on to it occasionally when I find something that I am looking for, feel free to offer anything though. You can see my collection at my tumblr ( http://cardcollection.tumblr.com/ )

ISO:
UV500 Tally Ho Vipers
UV500 White Ghost
UV500 Black tiger deck
S/M v1-3
more to come....

Post, send a PM or email me ( curt.loyd [at] gmail.com ) if you are interested

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Just a coupel of quick questions
« on: September 28, 2013, 03:03:13 AM »
You are correct about the Smoke and Mirror decks. Versions 1-3 were a 2 piece set, a black and a white deck in each. There were also two different v4 decks, one with a seal and one without.

As for the Artifice, I can help you out with the earlier ones, but someone else will have to fill in the rest because I stopped following their changes after the first few renditions came out. The first Artifice ( Red and Blue ) were borderless, then they made a v2 of the blue versions with a border at the same time they made the green version, that also had a border. After this point I stopped following the changes to the Artifice, since the only one that really interested me was the Red because it was one of the first "rare" decks I had added to my collection, and the interesting circumstances surrounding the decks release with huge website crashes and the fact I had to continually try to buy them for 9 hours before my order finally went through.

I have some extra RJRTC decks, do you want one of each color or two?

Shoot me pm if you are interested.

Glad it worked out MFIAB.

There is a guy on youtube named Stuart Edge who does magic to pick up girls (he has other cool videos on his channel as well). He is pretty popular but just in case some of you guys have not seen him.

We've been married for exactly thirteen months as of today!

Wow, that's real magic right there. Congrats Don.

Aww shucks,  ;D

It's easy to stick around when the community is so awesome! Without this place, my collection and knowledge of playing cards would be greatly reduced. Even with the hustle and bustle of life I'll always try to find time to reply to a few posts, answer PM's and hang out with you guys.

Good to hear!  :D

I suspected that it was going to be up there on the list of most active months, seems like every time I signed in the PCP had a lot of new content and the Talk Park is getting used more thanks to John B reviving some older threads. Good to see that almost 2 years later and this forum is still going strong!

A boy and his father are riding in a car when it crashes.  The father is declared dead at the scene and the son is rushed to a local hospital.  In the operating room, the surgeon is about to begin trying to save his life, but stops, saying "I can't operate on this boy...he's my son..."

PS: the doctor is NOT his mother - he's male.

Long shot, but what ever. The boy and his father crashed into another car. In that car was a priest which the riddle referred to as "the father". The child's father survived the crash, unscathed, and is indeed the surgeon at the hospital his son was taken to.

Deck Reviews! / Re: Battle 45: Seasons by Alex Chin vs Mana by Erik Mana

I never ended up purchasing a Mana deck, although sometimes I still wish I had. The Seasons decks are pretty damn awesome though and I can remember how excited I was to add them to my collection. Still has one of my favorite tucks. My vote goes to Seasons.

You have eight balls all of the same size. 7 of them weigh the same, and one of them weighs slightly more. How can you find the ball that is heavier by using a balance and only two weighings?

hmm... Weigh 6 balls, 3 on each side. If they are even weight then one of the balls left is the heavier one, so weigh those. If the 6 balls are not even then take 2 from the heavier side and weigh them against each other to find which of the 3 is the heavy one.

I liked that riddle. Not super tricky, just logical.

Magical Cardistry Bonanza / Re: Shooting a card out of the deck
« on: September 19, 2013, 08:54:27 PM »
I use the hotshot because it was the one of the first cuts I learned and it has just become so natural and reliable. I have played around with a few variations on the hotshot, because if I want to teach it to someone they usually have issues with the deck starting between their index and middle finger, but they just don't feel as solid in my hand.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: Whether to open decks or not
« on: September 17, 2013, 12:15:01 AM »
Part of my reasoning for collecting playing cards is the story behind them, whether they be a vintage deck or a more recent one. I'll generally buy two or three of a deck that I really like the look of (like DM rounders) or something that has a unique concept, like when the Fantastique and Curator decks were released. I enjoy keeping most of my collection on display in the house where it catches the attention of guests, they also work well as art in the room we use to play card games and pool. I understand the collectors who use their decks, which tend to be ones who practice magic or cardistry more often, which makes sense.

Anyone on here play the game? I haven't heard of it, is it relatively popular? It's going to be a pretty damn tough sell if the game has a small player base since it's basically useless to the people who normally collect decks and support playing card KS projects.

There's enough gamers around KS, from elaborate strategy games and RPGs right down to beer-and-pretzel games, that would be willing to give this game a try.  But they'd be more likely to simply use a plain deck of cards and call it a day rather than deal with this poorly laid-out mess.  A few annotations on the cards in pen, and voila - a custom deck designed for the game that costs less, works better and isn't as hideous.

Yeah, I deleted my post after looking into it a bit more, I didn't realize he had created the game. I suppose you are right with the following of RPG players that might give it a try. I didn't even try to critique the art since I thought that was sort of secondary to the gameplay it had. You're right though, why buy some specialized deck like this when you can just play with any deck and some rules.
