The Blue Crown representative already addressed the issue in the Vaudeville thread. Use of the coupon was stopped because it was being used by too many people. It was only meant to be used by people who it was given to, not released to everyone. He also said that if you were one of the people who were meant to be able to use the code (i.e. were emailed it by The Blue Crown) then they would sort something out with your order, so if that's you then I'm sure you can email them and ask.

I have found many sellers put on their cost on the packages - rather than the retail price they're selling it for. Of course for many new decks this is really in the $3-5 range.

I think this is actually the correct thing - that it is meant to be the person posting the package's (wholesale) cost. (Please correct me if I'm mistaken). In any case it definitely helps if you need to fit below a limit...
 ;)

I don't know about the laws in your country, but from Her Majerty's Revenue & Customs (HMRC) here in UK, they address the issue explicitly:

Quote
Make sure the supplier completes an accurate Customs Declaration
Goods arriving in the UK from outside the EU by post or courier must have a Customs Declaration fixed to the package - completed by the sender. The declaration should include:

    a description of the goods
    their value
whether they are gifts, commercial or personal items

Some websites will offer to show a value on the Customs Declaration that's much lower than the actual price paid so that you don't have to pay duty and/or VAT when the goods enter the UK. This is wrong: if you're ordering goods over the Internet, it is in your own interest to make sure that the sender abroad makes a complete and accurate declaration. If no declaration is made, or the information is inaccurate, the package may be delayed whilst the UK Border Agency makes further enquiries, or in some cases the package and its contents may be seized and as the importer of the goods you will be liable for any charges.

Just ordered one Brick... use the coupon code  "BC2011" and it works....!!
There are no uncut for this deck available...

Aw, I had tried to use that coupon code and it didn't work for me. I didn't think it was a one time only one, but could be other factors too. I also tried 'BC2012' just to chance my luck, but to no avail! No problems though, it was still money well spent!

EDIT Reading the description for these cards is almost making me drool. The colours are extremely appealing and eye-catching in a very positive way, and it taps into an era where magic seemed to have a great deal of respect. But embossing, and gold foil accents?! I'm glad I bought four now - two to admire the box - one the front and one the back; and two to use! My favourite box design so far is the JAQK, and these look like good contenders to beat it. I didn't really care about the JAQK box in pictures, it's only when I received it and saw the details that I realised how intricate and dainty it is. If this vaudeville deck (tuck box and cards) has the same better-in-the-flesh effect then it's going to be a contender for favourite deck. I can say that without knowing about the handling because I don't really care about handling. Bicycle standards and everything up from that is fine for me for handling!

Anyway, it's 4:45am here now, time to go and dream about vaudeville. :bosswalk:

I just received my mixed brick today, which I think is an ideal speed of delivery (just over two weeks). The box was a bit torn and damaged, but I'm never fussed with that if the seller packs the box well, and they did not disappoint! Decks were all in perfect condition. Additionally, The Blue Crown put the value on the customs declaration at a number that meant the package didn't get caught up in customs and give me a charge. I guess I shouldn't advocate that since it's illegitimate, but it sure tastes sweet to not have to go through that process!

Looking forward to using these decks as my new 'standard'. 12 decks should last me a good long time (I've only used four decks in the past 5 years).

There we go, 4 Vaudeville decks ordered. Pages were slightly slow to load, but no issues!

@Don... These days, when I look at Ellusionist, I am underwhelmed... I believe the pros and cons of many of these decks have been discussed in the past, but I mean really, the company is trying to live off past glory, and that's okay, I just stated that I'm not one for it... I suppose if I still performed and needed to re-up on some supplies as it was mentioned, I might look differently upon the situation.  As for the LTD, I will say, I like the deck - I'm not sure if it's because of its rarity, but I think it's got a good flavor to it... I just don't care for producing a minuscule amount of the only deck people seem to care about and then force people to buy your other stock in order to get it...  They would have sold boatloads of decks, but no one would have bought their overstock... Just not cool to me... They set a tone in the industry where others follow and it just makes for a poor attitude... I mean look at the company as a whole, they seem to solely rely on saying something is out of stock, and then offering it only when you buy $75 more garbage, and by garbage I mean inconsequential, boring decks that really no one cares about... Sound familiar? (D&D Variety Box?)... Costs around $75 too doesn't it?  I think a deck like the Americana blows away anything coming out of that company since I don't know when... Again, just my opinion... I mean I would like to feel the way I used to about E, but give me  reason to...

You keep talking about Ellusionist like it's a playing card company. You would do well to read their about us Their mention of cards is the last paragraph in the wee blurb at the bottom. Otherwise, they are pretty much clear that they are a magic trick company. It might take you 12 or 13 decks to get to a $75 tier prize, but it doesn't take many magic tricks to get there at all. I don't know if you are just a playing card collector and don't perform magic outside of card tricks, if even that, but pure playing card collectors are rare. Most playing card collectors are magicians first and foremost, and they will spend a great deal of money on the tricks ellusionist has to offer.

It is possible, yes. However, it is illegal to do so. Of course, if you are just doing it for private use then no one is really going to notice/care. The reason you are finding it hard is because they encrypt the DVDs to stop people from ripping and burning them. It is bypassing this encryption that is illegal to do, so I'm not going to tell you how to do it. Although, most basic DVD ripping programs available probably allow the option, and I'm sure a search on Google will be lucrative too.

I'm assuming you're in the US where such laws are rather strict. If so, you could argue that even having such software on your computer is illegal. In other countries, it's a much greyer area, and the courts are fine with people doing things for personal use.

EDIT - I just noticed you're in Canada, and I think Canada allows one copy per DVD for personal use, at least at present. There may be legislation coming through to disallow bypassing the encryption. But yes, just search on Google for DVD ripping software and you should be able to work from that.

Is a second printing still considered a first edition? I'd appreciate the clarification on this.  I don't collect different versions. Not until i win the lottery of course. lol.  I ordered one when i first started collecting but i opened it. I ordered a second one later to keep sealed. I only ever buy two of any deck and only decks i like.

I imagine the playing card industry is much like the publishing industry for books in this respect. Reprints are done to maintain the stock. Companies don't know exactly how much a product will sell, so they print so many and then either print more if the product is selling well or don't print more. If they print more of the same card then it will be a reprint. For it to become a second, third, fourth etc edition then they need to change something about the deck. Normally, that will mean some sort of improvement, or something that costs more money.

I don't know what the specific thing is with your sentinels deck, so I can't comment on that. But yes, a second printing would still be a first edition. I wish that playing card companies marked their decks with the edition and which print run it is from explicitly, just as books do. It makes life much easier for people trying to identify cards.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: NEW DECK - Tiger Deck
« on: March 21, 2012, 01:53:59 AM »
Oh, come on. The jokers look cute.   Stolen, but cute.    The second tiger was from "Kung Fu Panda" if memory serves.  The first one looks like a knock-off of Tigg-ger from Pooh.  It would be a hoot to bid on if the shipping was a bit lower.
I think the images used are far enough away from the originals that he doesn't have to license them.

A quick search for 'samurai tiger' shows up the image for the secon joker. However, it's from Shutterstock meaning that the image is royalty free; i.e. you can use it wherever you want without any copyright problems. That is, of course, permitting that he has a paid Shutterstock account. As you can see, the images have watermarks on them and you have to be registered to download the actual image.

I don't know where the first came from, but I would imagine most of his images come from royalty-free databases. I'm guessing the USPCC has a process of checking for copyright on cards as part of the normal pre-printing anyway.

« on: March 21, 2012, 01:42:17 AM »
From Facebook Handlordz:

So we are going to go with the normal printed red back design on the back of the Blood Metals. Having said that, we kept a handful of the embossed black on black even though there are some minor rubbing on them. That will make these extremely rare cards from an already LIMITED EDITION!! We may have a contest for a pack in the near future if you are interested in getting your handz on these.

Kinda seems a little fishy, is it possibly they planned this all along?

I didn't understand any of what they posted.  ??? What do they mean 'we are going to go with'? Haven't the decks already been printed and shipped to them and arrived damaged? Nor do I see how the damaged ones are extremely rare if 'all' of them were damaged. If all of them were damaged it would make non-damaged ones extremely rare :o

God, I hate the words 'rare' and 'limited edition' these days. Stick a booger on the back and it's rare.

Ah, Merz. The perfect example of how picking up every deck that is released is the worst decision a collector could make. $0.99 sounds about right, he's gone and butchered the standard bicycle! Just neet to get that shipping down to free shipping and it should be good to go.

6 months of scripting has gone into their plan to get all the negative publicity as possible to keep everyone talking and waiting to see what's next

Jeez, which university did their marketing adviser get their marketing degree from. "You must get as many people to mistrust you as possible when trying to create a new brand. Mistrust, lies, deceit and lack of transparency is the key to a good company."???

As alex. alluded to above, it is not a case of whether the company is a scam (that is, takes people's money on a basis of pretence). Even if this company produces the most wonderful deck that has ever been created and sold it for $0.99, I'd never give them my money for it, nor publicise them to win a competition for a free gross of them.

If a company wishes to keep developments secret, it does not say to its designer, "go forth and comment on our deck and lie when people ask if you are affiliated to us; create fake accounts; pretend you do not know us". It just shuts up and gives sneak peeks.

There's no way he could see everything an IP does.  Only when that IP accesses the server this site is based from.
So would this example work:

Someone is on Aethercards.com, I have other tabs open and om using those sites as well. Can alex see it?

That is pretty awesome if he can.

I'm not exactly sure you understand what an IP is or is used for. Every device connected to the internet has an IP; and every website you visit - whether simultaneously or not - uses your IP. You can't tell much from an IP except the user's Internet Service Provider and their general location. The location can be traced to around their street with a great deal of innaccuracy, but will likely get the correct town/city. If you want to see the information your own IP reveals about you then check here If someone needed you exact address and had the authority to get it (i.e. from a court) then they can contact your ISP and get your details from your IP.

People are much more likely to gather information you submit overtly - i.e. from posting in these forums; your facebook pages - rather than covertly through tracking IPs.

Still not sure why there isn't a thread about IP addresses if everuone's so keen on talking about it, but whatever.

I'm going to pass this time. As tempting as it is, especially since I don't any any of Ellusionist's newer custom decks like Infinity or Artifice, I'm well over my budget already. I'll just go on the hope that they do this lowering of tier level again for Gold Arcane some other time, and hopefully I'll have the budget to get it then.

Ah, good, so my donation got through. I was a bit worried it hadn't. PayPal is very tempremental with me and I chose 'instant bank transfer' which doesn't show up on my bank account very well. I've learned to choose 'credit/debit card' instead which comes off straight away. But, it doesn't seem to matter to the receiver, so that's good!

Glad I could be of help. I came here too late to donate any decks, so hopefully paying some for shipping makes up for it. Looking forward to the unboxing!

I have been hearing about how you can check out the price of items whose listing/bidding that have ended. but I do not know how. Care to share? ;D

From the eBay help pages:
Quote
Just follow these steps:

Go to the Search page. You can get there by clicking the Search button at the top of any eBay page.
    Click the Advanced Search tab.
Enter your search keywords and other search options (if desired).
Click the "Completed Items" checkbox offered in the section Refine your search.
Click the Search button, and you'll get a list of items matching your search that have ended during the last 15 days.

Also, if you 'watch' an item, it still appears in your watch list after the listing has ended and you can check listings that you were already familiar with that way.

Hope that helps.

can we have a low down on what all these numbers (i.e. 300 & 325) mean?
I may be mistaken, but I'm assuming the numbers are referring to the 'gsm' - 'grams per square metre' i.e. how thick the card is. See the wikipedia page on Paper Density if you aren't familiar with that already (it's used for all types of paper and you may have seen when you're buying paper for your printer)

I would be, but can't afford it just now, but that's a great price to whoever gets it!

I noticed that when using the 'Show unread posts since last visit' function, most threads have an 'all' link to see all the thread's pages on one page, however some threads don't have this link. I believe it's the same within the thread itself. Is this intentional or is it a bug?

Funding successful with 704% and 476 backers! Congratulations Cosmo Solano!

I realised I pledged on the 27th February, just as the second print run with black seals was being offered! So, it seems I just missed out on the first run which is a shame, but nevertheless, I'm looking forward to handling these cards. Although, like the Fantastique decks, I don't think I'm going to want to shuffle them!
