I'm pretty sure I created a topic like this the day this forum started. I could be wrong though.

Ye but they risk the chance of their idea being taken before they can get a copyright on it.

then if you show it you must write in capitals: "COPYRIGHT BY (enter name here), (then the date published just to make sure if alex or any other moderators see, they know it is your)

I can't enforce copyright claims unless they are legal. My advice is to upload all your images with a Creative Commons license. Just use http://deviantart.com for that.

Either way, I think we can all agree that we would harass anyone that stole concepts, images, or ideas for their own gain on our forums. We are a community built to help each other learn, succeed and excel. Anyone that stands in the way of that can, well, get out before we rip them to pieces.

Strictly speaking, you should win any copyright case just by uploading it since the server stores the time and date of the upload so it'll be easy to prove that it was your idea.  Any court case is mountains of hassle, though.

Legally, copyright inheres in the creator at the moment the work is created, and becomes enforceable.  You can also take the additional step of registering your copyright with the appropriate governmental body, which provides additional protections, but it is not necessary to do so for the creator to have a valid, legally-enforceable copyright.

Right, I'm not suing someone on someone else's behalf. If someone rips your concept, our job is a forum is to not give that person any credence.
I still don't see why someone wouldn't want to upload concepts because of that. Who here would honestly buy cards from someone who just stole the design?

We had that Olympus deck on here a few weeks ago which was completely stolen, and it was beat into the ground.

A draft from a long time ago... have it if you like - I don't really care on expanding it.

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

The whole copyright thing can be a pain in the @$$, really.  Say you have a great deck idea.  You chat about it, post it in a forum, great, right?  Then someone with deeper pockets than you decides they want to pound on your idea and "claim jump" you with a nearly identical (if not totally identical) deck.  Sure, the law is on your side, but since when would the average Kickstarter project creator have the cash to sue a copyright thief?  These are people who literally held their hats in their hands just to get their decks made.  It would end up in the courts for years, sucking on your bank account and your soul.
