Design & Development / Re: Designing a Deck - Check it out.

Very nice work indeed, how did you make the prototypes? If the logo is not legitimate I assume its not from the USPCC.

Hi guys,

Due to some circumstances I am now going to have to sell this deck. Starting bid is $0.99 and shipping from Sydney, Australia.

If you require more information please contact me.

Playing Card Plethora / Re: NEW DECK- Blue LTD. Deck?
« on: November 28, 2012, 02:42:43 AM »
It would appear that E is running low on their old rare decks and so must create some new ones so it is unlikely that the blue ltd deck will be released freely for purchase to the public.

-1 for Zaganh, after a month of receiving my side of the trade he has yet to post the decks from his side of the deal

In brief, currently the problem is that I live in Aus and so trading with him by sending decks from my end would have resulted in a very large shipping price. In order to save on this, I bought a mixed brick from D&D and shipped it to his address. This was done during the ace fultons mixed brick deal and so a midnight was also sent.

As Zaganh did not have a midnight edition, he would wait till he received the package from D&D before he sent me a mixed brick of orange and tobacco Ace Fultons and the midnight deck he received from my order back to me.

He received the decks around the 25th of October and informed me of this. However, since then he keeps informing me that he has "financial difficulties" in raising sufficient funds to send my decks over to me and would wait till he got paid before sending it. It has been over a month and yet he still has not posted the decks despite frequent messages asking him to which are only met with more BS about financial difficulties.

What astounds me about this situation is that he was the one who initiated the trade, with the unspoken implication that he can at least afford the small cost of shipping. Furthermore, this sum is not a large sum. I am confident that Zaganh has some friends or parents IRl who would be willing to lend him $30 for shipping so he can keep up his end of the commitment which would be the alternative a decent human being would have taken when they did not have the sufficient funds.

Now the Tobacco and Orange decks are still not sold out at D&D (at least back when the trade was started) and I could have easily taken this risk free route to get the deck, but I did this to help a fellow member of the community out, albeit also to get an extra midnight deck, but hey, I'm not a saint.

Below are some of the messages I received from Zaganh, there are a lot more sent to my email which contains more BS stemming from the end of October which I have not included.

It would only be worth considering if the opened jerrys are in pristine conditions, which the photos you have shown clearly show its not, and even then 5 decks seems like one deck too many.

The downside to the box would be the increased shipping, though I guess that would vary with the type of wood used.

I'm interested in knowing how an overseas designer would handle the contracts and shipping of the decks should their design become funded. Is there any well known forwarding services which will be able to take care of the shipping process and can the contracts be signed electronically?

Or is kickstarter really a viable option to those living in the US.

You should check the rules again.  There's a deck on Kickstarter right now by a UK designer, and it's posted in pounds sterling in stead of dollars.  Your country might be viable as well.

If it isn't, you'd have to find a US or UK partner for your deck - someone willing to do the work and represent you.  You could arrange for the decks to be sent to you so you do the heavy lifting after printing, or your partner (if willing) could do it, or you could try finding an order fulfillment service.  Whichever way you pick, it involves taking a smaller cut of any possible profit.  If you do the heavy work of fulfilling orders, you also have to factor in the HUGE shipping expenses you'll be dealing with.

It's not the kind of thing you can go into without knowing every single detail, every single cost.

Where are these rules available? I've tried contacting USPCC via email and have not received a response.

Thanks in advance.

If I recall correctly the vortex deck and the actuator decks were also USPCC releases but their backs did not resemble their logo.

What's wrong with their logo- not that I'm saying I like the deck I'm just curious? Is there a reason it wont get approved?

Whilst the map does hint at being the next stage of the quest its quite weird that to accomplish it you would have to essentially destroy the box your deck came in.

The ace of spade looks a bit like the seasons imo, but the back design is very nice, simple but appealing.

The international shipping for 3 decks is outrageous, $26 cheapest option to Australia.

Quite surprised that ellusionist went the route of aged looking playing cards. From the recent sale of the series 1800 I gathered that the cards were not amongst the most popular items from ellusionist, and its understandable why the market hasn't flocked to those like the other decks.

That being said though, the interior design of the box is wonderful to the extent that the ripped box itself by far catches my attention much more than the cards.

Thanks a lot lol

It's also called the "Sultan," its quite all right to say yes a deck doesn't need to be all decked out as it were with metallic ink, or fancy designs, but when your essentially calling yourself king, I'd expect the theme to follow on with the name.

-sigh-

What is it exactly that you guys don't like? There's so many comments about being disappointed, but so little explanation. Does every deck that's release have to have metallic, full-custom court cards and a crapload of gimmick features?

I already pretty much answered this, but I'll just emphasize that as competition increases in design, with more and more decks coming out with lots of customization, very intricate and beautiful designs, metallic ink and whatever else, the standard for decks is constantly being raised. I do appreciate a simple design (again some of my favorite decks include White Lions, Vintage Plaid, Bee Stingers, etc.).

Quote
It's really annoying to see that so many people say they're "disappointed" yet fail to see even the simplest details in a deck. You guys have been so stuffed with the big things that you don't see the subtlety anymore.

Maybe you'd like to point out some of these details that we so clearly missed? I'm not quite so sure what you mean by simple details in these decks since the Rebels/Sultans actually have pretty detailed back designs. You can put a lot of detail in a back design, but it can still feel uninspired.

A lot of times it does come down to personal taste, and I'll use the comparison of White Lions and Players as an example. The designs are very similar in style, and have a simple yet elegant feel to them. I wasn't a fan of the Players partially because there was too much blank space on the back design that made it feel empty. Also because there wasn't a ton of hype surrounding the deck that ended up being a letdown.

Quote
Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but at least try to have an educated one.

and lol at this. Who made you the expert on what constitutes good personal taste in a back design? Probably the most pretentious thing I've seen on these forums

It's funny how correct sr15 is, you say there is no explanation of why we're not impressed by this deck then list the very reasons we stated, derp?

Your second argument is highly flawed, if individuals say they were "underwhelmed" or "disappointed," then clearly they did see the subtlety, but that it was too bland/simple. They recognise the deck is not too cluttered, not too outreaching, or subtle as you put it (which seems to be an incorrect use of the term as subtle implies there is an overall detail or theme being expressed by the lack of detail, which you do not mention or explain) but due to this are disappointed. furthermore, rather than a subtle design, the term simple may have been the more correct choice.

Furthermore, as sr15 has pointed out your final statement is hilarious. How do you have an educated opinion about a deck design. Are you meant to quote techniques used in the printing or design? Presumably not, as that would be a quite unreasonable and unrealistic. If anything, the opinions stated on this forums should be paid attention to by the big playing cards company as it is valuable first-hand feedback from their target market.

with a bit metallic ink back design this deck could've been much better.
