Hi All,
My name is Mikhail Stolpovskiy. I am a PhD in physics, specialised in cosmic-ray astrophysics. Once at a conference, we sat with friends, playing poker late in the evening. And an idea came to my mind to show famous physicists on the playing cards. Over the years as I worked on this deck the idea evolved, so now not only the court cards are about physics, but each one of the 54 cards presents some subject of modern fundamental research. I also have written a book that explains the pictures on the cards.
Each suit is dedicated to one branch of physics. Diamonds are for the quantum mechanics, the branch of physics that describes the behaviour of the tiniest subatomic particles. Hearts are for high energy physics: what are exactly those particles that are studied by the diamonds. Clubs are for astrophysics: from the Sun to the entire Milky Way. And spades are for cosmology: from the Big Bang to the ultimate fate of the Universe.
