It is worth retail to everyone but collectors. Collectors maybe 20 dollars. IMO

Honestly, I prefer gold ink over black ink, and I believe these cards would really look nice.

I just wish people stood up for principle more than looks, value or other things of that nature.

I regret a lot of my purchases in playing cards, if only because they were made to resell something. Now I lack the money needed to purchase the modern releases. New cards come out every week, and I guarantee this release will not stand the test of time. Resellers are making quick cash, but after the real ones are released, you can only sell an open deck since it seems the boxes are identical. Everyone who bought one for these crazy prices right now will either enjoy the cards if they are a true collector, or fall flat on their face when they try to resell them.

Also, is it confirmed that it's black ink instead of gold ink? I'm pretty sure Bayme said the real ones will look almost identical and that the only difference is the lack of metallic ink. Gold will remain gold, and subtle metallic features are only visible up close (i.e. Artifice).

When it comes to collecting cards, I'm not most like people. I do not care about Stock or Finish. Looks are what matter most to me when it comes to cards. If I enjoy the looks, I will try to pick some up, unless I have a reason not to (like Merz).

Secondly Zach Mueller said that the pre-release decks wont look anything like the ones being released on 11/11/11...whatever that means.

I have to agree with Alex, I too have regrets with some of my purchases but hey it happens. I'm learning to become less frustrated at the limited releases. The more I miss the more I'll get used to the dissapointment, I've had word from jb that the cards are very very similar and the gold is only very minimal, not the whole back as some think. The last deck I bought for a high price was the IAOCP deck but that's very rare for me to do. In the moment it's tempting to go and blow $50 on the deck but in my experiance expensive decks just dont give you as much enjoyment, one because you dont want to open it or secondly if you do open it you then regret it. I love custom decks so dont take this the wrong way but i remember a time of tally's and bikes with the rare old casino deck thrown in but now custom decks are everwhere and amongst all the bad stuff there are some beuties...cough...vortex...cough, but seriously why they didn't just sell the other  thousands they mentioned for a lower price baffles me, maybe there is something we're not being told.

First off, I think without a doubt they are withholding information. Secondly check out the latest Insider. That's where he mentioned it, but I guessing he's just talking about color.

yeh I agree about them not being open completely. I guess it was just the color he was refering to then or just playing with us even more than they have.

Hmmm, I think it is not that $300 worth.
Cause the one they will release will be similar to this.
Only a serious collector who NEED all decks will buy it.

Excellent point. I have had this debate with myself on several occasions. I recently picked up a couple of decks (Brown Wynns and SMv5) I was seeking for some time but now that I have them (actually I do not have them yet, transaction in progress) I am not going to focus so much on that deemed collectable. You are right, as we see decks are comming out all the time, one could argue to often at some times. There are enough (future collectables) to choose from. As others have stated if you do not get in on the next 2,500-3,000 release it is not the end of the world. I learned alot from the Red Artifice. When I could not get it I felt like I missed something big and had to get it on Ebay. I am glad I have my one deck which I will never open or sell but if I did not have it I do not think things would be that much different. It is easy to get caught up in the hype. Perhaps, from time to time, I will seek a collectable deck if it catches my eye but I would rather try to find the new releases which there are plenty of that catch my eye. :-X

I would say for an avid collector this deck is worth a pretty penny for its production only being 144. With that said, other than that it is worth as much as a regular deck...no difference. It really would only appeal to collectors of rare decks more than anything. I picked up 3 on the pre release and I have traded one of my Monarch decks for a set of v1 S&M, 4 Red Artifice's, a red and blue crown deck, and last but not least, $75...For this particular person this deck is worth a lot. I am lucky and pleased with my trade and am Google to keep the other 2 decks for my collection. So I guess it all boils down to that the deck itself is not worth anymore than the regular release on the 11th only unless you are a hardcore collector of rare decks ;)

If somebody really traded you for 8 decks (including 4 Red Artifices) plus $75, they must have tons of those decks to trade them in the first place, have lots of money, and being really desperate for a deck of cards.

Yeah that's not a bad deal. I have one but I don't plan on selling it. If I did I'd be looking to sell it around that price, but that wouldn't be for a long time haha

  • Card for me maybe?
Sigh, wish I caught on it before they were expensive, sucks to not have a credit card.. but then again I'll most probably be broke if I have one.. Gonna get one for $150, cheapest I can get.. To me I feel that it's just a nice piece of art which are made in limited yet large amounts so why the heavy price tag? $150 is way out of my budget, though I purchased $100 decks before etc. I regretted it because it's too much.. Rare deck yes, $50-$150, uncommon ones ~ $50, wish rare decks could be from $50 - $100 though, makes it much more reasonable.. In the end it's just a lovely piece of art  :)

  • Pick a card, any card...no, not THAT card!

  • Facebook:
The biggest problem with anyone buying or selling the Gold Monarchs is that the packaging is IDENTICAL to the standard-issue.  Someone, somewhere by now must have been duped by an unscrupulous seller into buying a standard Monarch deck that was advertised as a Gold deck.  And that buyer, if he's a dyed-in-the-wool collector, may never discover the truth because he'll never open the pack!

The moment I heard there was identical packaging, I stayed away from the Gold Monarchs with a ten-foot pole.  I'm making no effort to even try obtaining a pack, even though I'd discover any bogus Golds because I tend to open a pack of even my rarest decks.

Yeah I agree, I think that is what makes these decks not worth much. Or well it makes buying them not worth the risk. Look at it how you want. I wouldn't ever think about buying on of these for that reason. It's just not worth the risk. I guess the dyed-in-the-wool collectors would be happy either way though, ignorance is bliss haha

The thought of just using the same packaging was one of T11's dumbest ideas, really.  At the very least, they could have made a new deck seal sticker for them, or used their custom seal just on the Golds and used USPC standard-issue seals on the rest.  But it's water under the bridge now...

should I or should I not get the deck..  :-\  yes it's just 'gold' ink but it looks really classy... price tag attached can get me a whole lot of other decks... somehow gold just seems to attract me, gold arcanes (Which I still do not have, now gold monarchs...) decisions decisions  :-X :'(

On this deck, it isn't worth it.  The reason they trashed most of the gold production run was that the gold was extremely difficult to spot.  You ask me, it was a dumb reason, but one in a series of dumb decisions.

Another thought occurred to me about the "same package" issue.  When the White Centurions came out, they just came in a plain white tuck box.  Why oh why couldn't they do something similar with the Gold Monarchs?

If you're going to use it, then its not worth it at all. (unless you're rich)
If its for your collection, then its definitely worth it

Yeah NOT WORTH IT!! I'm lucky to have one so I know it's legit but I would never take the chance of spending that much on a deck and not knowing if it's legit or not. I would buy a load of other decks instead and really appreciate them

I'm surprised that people are still talking about not being able to tell if it is legit or not. It has already been revealed quite some time ago that the cellophane is different on the two decks. The Gold is sealed on the right and smooth on the left. The regular Monarchs are sealed on the left and smooth on the right. As I said, this was revealed a while ago. 144 survived, 111 were sold. Obviously this is a deck for collectors. Whether to open or not is on the individual...but regardless, opened or not, it is still 1 of 144 decks. What other deck can be said that there are only 144 in existence? Who has opened their White Centurion? There are decks, like the Gold Monarch, J Nug, White Cent, that are on a whole different level of collector status. 8)
Magical as Sin!

Dude, I was TOTALLY unaware of this!  OK, in that case, since you really CAN tell the difference, then maybe it's something for a collector to get.  But if you're just Joe Magician or Jane Flourisher or Sam Pokerplayer, you wno't notice the gold, so it's not worth the price.  Get the "plain" ones and have at it.

If I had White Centurions, I'd open them.  I have two white New Fan Backs - one is opened.  If I only had one, it would still be opened.  I would open a Jerry's Nugget deck if I owned one.  I admire the cards for how they look, feel and perform, not simply for bragging rights that I own an expensive deck of cards.  If collecting alone makes you happy, more power to you - I want to get the visceral, physical experience.  Otherwise, I'd still be playing solitaire on my phone...and I likely wouldn't be a magician.

Im with you Don, I want to see the cards, maybe if it was some uber rare deck where if opened lost hundreds of dollars in value i might not but other wise i always do.
Do you guys even read this? Like I could have the meaning of life here and I doubt you would know it.

See there we meet performer vs collector. I personally am both, this why I buy multiples of each deck. So I have the gold but also a brick of regulars. I also have an open Jerry, so I know where you guys are coming from. So I guess to sum it up...if you want a deck for collection and bragging rights go for gold and spend the money, if you intend the deck for use then just stick to the cheap white monarchs.
Magical as Sin!
