I'm surprised that people are still talking about not being able to tell if it is legit or not. It has already been revealed quite some time ago that the cellophane is different on the two decks. The Gold is sealed on the right and smooth on the left. The regular Monarchs are sealed on the left and smooth on the right. As I said, this was revealed a while ago. 144 survived, 111 were sold. Obviously this is a deck for collectors. Whether to open or not is on the individual...but regardless, opened or not, it is still 1 of 144 decks. What other deck can be said that there are only 144 in existence? Who has opened their White Centurion? There are decks, like the Gold Monarch, J Nug, White Cent, that are on a whole different level of collector status.
Dude, I was TOTALLY unaware of this! OK, in that case, since you really CAN tell the difference, then maybe it's something for a collector to get. But if you're just Joe Magician or Jane Flourisher or Sam Pokerplayer, you wno't notice the gold, so it's not worth the price. Get the "plain" ones and have at it.
If I had White Centurions, I'd open them. I have two white New Fan Backs - one is opened. If I only had one, it would still be opened. I would open a Jerry's Nugget deck if I owned one. I admire the cards for how they look, feel and perform, not simply for bragging rights that I own an expensive deck of cards. If collecting alone makes you happy, more power to you - I want to get the visceral, physical experience. Otherwise, I'd still be playing solitaire on my phone...and I likely wouldn't be a magician.
