Playing Card Plethora / Best Christmas Decks!
« on: November 19, 2014, 09:36:56 AM »
With Christmas a little over a month away I am considering giving all my nieces and nephews a deck of cards with their Christmas present. Would like for them to be Christmas/Holiday themed and would like each deck to be different (not just in color) for each kid. I was wanting to see if anyone had some ideas for decks that are still readily available. I need 10 decks that would appeal to kids from 5-15. Any ideas?

The Conversation Parlor / Tattoos
« on: September 25, 2014, 01:50:15 PM »
Since its been quite here this morning I thought I would ask an off the wall question to generate some stimulating conversation. Or not...  Does anyone have any playing card related tattoos?  I myself have aces up my sleeve.  I was young (16) and maybe a little dumb but always loved playing cards.  Just throwing it out there..... ::)

The Conversation Parlor / Kickstarter delays...
« on: September 11, 2014, 09:26:46 AM »
I have backed 4 projects on kickstarter.  3 of which have met their goal.  I received an email from all 3 yesterday that the project would be delayed. All for various different reasons but delayed non the less.  My question is, is this a common occurrence or am I cursed with bad juju?  Or....Do the designers/creators just give unrealistic delivery dates?

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / 1979 Army Aircraft Recognition playing cards
« on: September 07, 2014, 12:56:32 AM »
I recently picked this deck up for next to nothing at a local Estate Sale.  The box is in less than perfect condition but still not too bad.   All the cards are in perfect condition, still in original order, never shuffled.
As I'm want to do I began to research them which has led me to discover the other military recognition cards from this same era. I was curious if anyone has come across any of them, including the first edition of this deck.
Also, I am curious if anyone has ever seen or have any knowledge of any of the original 200 decks of the Iraq Most Wanted cards that were printed in the DIA print shop. The cards were simple cardstock, without a plastic coating or rounded corners, and all were sent to Kuwait before the invasion.

Feedback + Support / New to Kickstarter
« on: July 16, 2014, 03:59:51 AM »
This might be a dumb question but here goes....
I recently signed up for kickstarter to back a deck of cards. After pledging it directed me to an amazon checkout which I thought would be the norm. Today I backed another deck and it asked for my credit card info. Which is fine except after pledging i wondered how the creator would know where to ship them.  It did not ask for an address and after searching through the kickstarter website nowhere did I find where they had that information either. Anyone know how this works?

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / How to Date a Thomas de la Rue Deck
« on: July 12, 2014, 07:51:53 PM »
I did not want to start another topic so I figured while I have your attention on this thread maybe you could answer another question, well maybe two.
I have looked and looked but I can't figure out how to date a deck of Thomas de la rue cards from England. I have figured out how to narrow it down by the graphic on the ace of spades but 1862 - 1950 is not quite as close a figure as I would like to see.
As for the other question. The Hochman encyclopedia is only American cards?

A Cellar of Fine Vintages / Brown Derby
« on: July 11, 2014, 05:35:22 PM »
I was wondering if anyone might know anything about these cards I picked up at an estate sale. I know they're not anything ancient and may not even be that rare or hard to find but I was wondering if someone might know something about the cards or the place they represent.  They are some of the nicest feeling cards I've ever handled and these pictures do not do them justice.

Introduce Yourself / Hello
« on: July 06, 2014, 12:21:58 PM »
Hello all,

My name is Will from Oklahoma.  I have always had an affinity for playing card games for as long as I can remember. As a child I learned and played every card game I could and as an adult I am always open to a game of cards with friends or family. Only a year and half ago did I realized the artistry and history that playing cards portray when  I stumbled upon some old congress decks at an estate sale. I have since collected with a fervor.  I have cards of all kinds,  from many eras and genres. I love them all. New or Old it does not matter to me. I stopped counting after 1000 but that's because I add so many so often that it's hard to keep track.  I stumbled upon this forum via a search engine while searching for others with like minds and similar interests.
