Title: Anyone know what brand this back goes with?
Post by: Chuqii on January 30, 2020, 02:57:12 PM
Got this in a lot of cards.  Has USPC courts in use from approx 1900 to 1950.  Deck is missing AS.   Can anyone ID the brand and maybe back design?  Thanks in advance.

Looked through the USPC backs and did not find it. You might look around some other brands. I go to search at http://a.trionfi.eu/WWPCM/

I'd hoped to save myself a trip to WWPCM.  Been there, no luck.   This back seems familiar, but I just can't place it.

I found a deck on eBay with the same back. Here's the ace that your missing. It's "consolidated litho and manufacturing" co. Maybe international branch of consolidated Dougherty? Idk..

To my knowledge (and I admit that's limited), the only manufacturing that USPC did in Canada was through the "International Playing Card Company," which is now pretty much just the marketing arm of USPC in Canada.  As I'm sure you know, Consolidated Dougherty was created when USPC bought both A. Dougherty and New York Consolidated, then after a number of years combined the two into a single, wholly-owned subsidiary.  In the mid-1960s, the company was disbanded and the brands were absorbed into USPC's line.  I don't think C-D did any printing outside of the US, and at that, their print work was all done at USPC's factories - they used to have more than one, but eventually all operations were consolidated into the Cincinnati plant, which is now the Erlanger plant.

Actually, that's originally a NYCC Squeezers back design. It's referenced as Back no. 95.

That's where I knew this from.  I have a 1922 Hoyle's Rules for Card Games from NYCCC, and the back is in there with some other Squeezers backs.  See pics.  Thanks everybody.
